How did you decide which pal to use for your characters?

I use my baby Betty Netch because I love how she's one of the few floating pets, it's rare to see them around, and I think they're really cute and weird.

I use the very first monkey they gave all the beta tester back in the day, very rare to see anyone on console using it too lol

On my Stamina Nightblade I use the black Basilisk, because most of my damage is poison and I mostly stealth, A basilisk is a serpent and the one ESO glides behind you, which looks cool to me as a stealth mechanic, no sound from vibrations.

I use Seht’s Dovahfly on my nightblade and named it Hunter Seeker* after the floating needle in Dune(1984)

For my Khajiit, I have the Moonlight Senche-Tiger. I always liked the rare black and white tigers so it was a no brainer to pick that one up with my sub crowns.

For my Nord, I got the White River Ice Wolf Pup in a free crate. It seemed fitting that they should be together.

For my Redguard, she got the free dog from the level up rewards.

For my Breton, she doesn't have one at least not yet. I have several to choose from just nothing stands out that I have to have for her.

For my Dark Elf, the dwemer pet you have to collect the parts for in the one public dungeon in Vvardenfell.

Finally on the EU server, my Wood Elf has the Fennic Fox from the daily rewards.

It has to fit with the character. One of my earliest Dunmer Sorcs still doesn't have a pet because it just wouldn't fit.

My "goblin" (bosmer) Broken Branch was going to have a "weird" pet, and I purchased the oasis frog and one of the sep adders, but she was walking around in Wrothgar and went to a stable and ended up with the baby ... whatever that Eska-whatsis is called, took it off the sellers hands because he's a runt, not a baby and named him grumpy biter, because he's grumpy and he bites.

My Breton Templar, Valentine Stower (yes, related to the banker) loves dwemer things, but it wasn't until she was exploring a ruin with a friend that I started using the "Dwemer Sphere" (back from when there were loyalty pets); named him Coherer Maintenance 1340 (in partial remembrance of one if the "critters" in B2; and one of the items from Morrowind TES III).

My StamSorc/Tank Orc Urgash Gra Sharn rides Doom, the bear (she shares that mount with her brother) and her pet is Doom's baby son Blood Drinker (who seems much more interested in butterflies than blood for some reason).

My Dunmer DK/DPS did most of her leveling in IC, and was followed out of the sewers by a Daedrat, this was noticed about halfway through an undaunted dungeon, and the group collectively named him "Fluffy (the mystery meat of pets)"

Most of my characters have no pets as I find the idea of them all having some random animal following them around just because a little unrealistic, but a few characters found a pet which just fits so well.

My werewolf warden has a wolf, of course:



My Mehrunes Dagon cultist has a scamp who looks straight out of the Deadlands:



And my Dunmer scholar of all things Dwarven and clockwork has a painstakingly reassembled Dwemer Theodolite:

My main has the black kitty cat because I love black cats.

My alt has the Doom Wolf pup because it matches her mount, the Doom Wolf.

My khajiit has the lion pup and rides the momma lion.

Mostly I like to match the pet to the mount, except for my main because there is no kitty cat mount.

My pets are permanently at home. I don't feel right when the little ones follow me to incredibly dangerous locations. And then just stand there as I'm beaten over.

I don't have pets for all my characters, just where I think it's appropriate. As such, introducing:



My Argonian Warden, Tends-the-Green, has adopted a bear family. The cub follows him around everywhere.



My sweet and empathetic Breton sorceress Rosine Stentor would probably adopt every critter she met, but she's truly bonded with a Big-Eared Ginger Kitten whom she rescued from a dangerous cavern on Summerset.



My Redguard swordmaster-in-training Alesan al-Rihad has an Alik'r Hound, who in my headcanon is actually Giblets, having decided to follow him around after that quest was ended.




I also have a mad scientist obsessed with the Dwemer and their constructs who goes by the name of Elijas the Elder and who has actually collected every Dwemer pet in the game, but his most recent achievement is putting together a Theodolite construct. I wish I could have all of his "minions" follow him around at once...

I have the skeletal dragon. He's also sitting on a rock by the entrance of my serenity fall manor, he's looking right at you when you enter xD And I agree with ArchMikem, pets are better at home than following you around.

I change them according to the outfit and mount my characters uses, but some favourites include the baby betch, the moth swarm, the red-eyed goat, and the dro-m'athra cub. The ice wolf pup also has really cute animations

Too many choices ~ so, it's like this, attire/mount/pet gets changed depending on where I'm at and what I'm doing.

Do I have a favourite? Blue dragon frog probably, because w E i R d ;D

To keep up with the blue dro-m'athra skin and mount on my main I have the dro-m'athra cub, and to keep up with my steampunk look on another char I use the dwarven spider mount + Razak's opus pet.

I bring out the beta monkey once in awhile farming dungeons alone to keep me company. Also I really like the fox we got last month.

Otherwise almost never really use pets. At least never while grouped in dungeons and trials.

With the pets (and even some of the mounts), I either stick them with a character that seems fitting or change them out based on what's happening in kind of a loose RP sense.

For example, my most recent alt is a Dunmer DK. I gave her a sep adder because it just kinda fit her look and personality. After doing the quest on Kenarthi's Roost where you help the dead go back to rest, I gave her the Fang Lair Courser head-canoning that particular mount never escaped the undead curse but liked her style enough to follow her out of the ruins, so now it's her mount.

My main, a Khajiit NB, most recently always road around on the Piebald Destrier accompanied by the Snow Leopard Senche. Just really liked that horse, and the senche made sense for a Khajiit... and actually matched the horse as far as color/markings. LOL I headcanoned that she left them both safely at Serenity Falls Estate before sailing off to Summerset. Once there, she ended up with a Great Elk mount because they are everywhere and seems like a very Altmer thing to have around, elk mounts. And after getting into a particularly nasty fight to the death with a gryphon because she went to the wrong neighborhood while sight-seeing the countryside, she found its nest and was horrified to see she'd orphaned a little baby gryphon... so, of course, she took it with her and is raising it now.
