Why is the trial scene so toxic?

Hi, I have been doing a lot of trials recently and man this is personally my least favorite scene to deal with. Vet/Norm Dungeon scene is the most the most chill to me, then pvp, then last is trials. Everybody to me in trials are just very toxic for the most part. What are your guys’s most and least favorite scenes?

Trials are great with friends/guildies, and fair to awful with randos. Why is it toxic? Because l33t morons + anonymity is a recipe for shite soup. My favorite scene is the one I share with friends, because it avoids most drama.

Are you doing trials with PUGs? That's the worst way to go, truly. PUGs aren't always awful and I've experienced very pleasant ones.

But trials require more coordination and planning than a group of strangers can have. Unless someone's making a TS3 or discord server for PUGs each trial, there's a huge lack of communication which causes problems in battle and with mechanics, and then that leads to people blaming each other for something going wrong.

I highly recommend doing trials with a guild of people you know, unless you really, REALLY need gear and said guild isn't doing trials all the time.

I think it has less to do with toxicity and more to do with an enhanced level of irritability. In a 4 man dungeon, you are only wasting 3 other people's time if you don't know mechanics or are not very good. And the other 3 can usually carry you through depending on the dungeon. But there is nothing for frustrating than struggling on a trial boss that you just smashed the other day because 2 or 3 people in your group are not as good as they led you to believe. Or someone is wearing awful gear. And I am not even talking about group synergizing gear, which does make it go faster. I am talking about a healer wearing BSW and not knowing what purge is for nHOF but claiming to be a healer.

Trials are destroyed with BOP thats why its hard to find group to do content also i think there are too much one shot mechanics with all this lag and performance involved its terrible... As soon they tweak trials should be good but that isnt happening...

no way in Coldharbor would I do a PUG Trial if for the lack of voicechat alone would make coordination an absolute nightmare.

Some of my favorite trial runs have been with PUGs. But they were the multiple guild pull kind of PUG where the group leader wanted to do a trial and invited specific people from different guilds they were in who were able to join. So we had good healers, good tanks, and very good dps.

I actually joined an in-zone PUG for Asylum the first day it went out. Was expecting a nightmare, actually went really well.

It looks like pretty much anything with strangers is going to be toxic. You can only avoid that by playing exclusively with guildies and friends you already know. That's a shame because it discourages actually meeting new people, but as they've made it impossible to do anything about the toxic people, that's the sort of community that ZOS must've been shooting for. They got it.
  • Nocturnal_Annoyance
Every "scene" has its own toxic division. But I agree with the trial community having the most toxic players. They seem to forget the most often to invest in new peeps to keep it all going.

Have never been in a trial that was toxic. Maybe it is the players you run with.

We can see from posts in these forums where players complain about their GF group being so bad and of course it cannot be due to the person who creates those threads.

I expect those same players run in pug trials and would expect them to be as toxic there as they are in their threads.

Think I'm the only person who genuinely thinks trials are boring.

Just a button mashing rotation fest, move out the red circles, stand on that side, bash this guy etc

    Repetitive, boring.

I agree. It's even worse when you're going through the boring motions for the billionth time and the person next to you keeps dying to the same mechanics they've been warned about for the billionth time. ...then you repeat the same fight for the billionth time...all night * shudders

It's the people think they are l33t that join pug groups and down talk every one then join there guild groups and they all laugh at how horrible people are.

Trial end game players when taken out of there core groups turn into toxic players

It's the other way around. The "unique" CP750 DD who is barely scratching 15k dps and dies alot is the one who wastes time. Some people are patient, some others not.

Trials are toxic regardless if it's pug or guild. God forbid if you have non-meta build or do less damage than "limit" dps.

Don't blame the "meta" when you're underperforming. You can do 40~45k dps on the dummy with non-meta stuff. Too many people play DD without realizing that their job is pulling off as much as damage and dying as less as possible. But now and then, you have a stamina "DD" who blames the "meta" why he is pulling off 10k dps with his "unique" bow+1H&S "Gladiator Build"

It’s kidna hilarious how some of you are glorifying the guild Trial scene when it’s the exact same screaming incompetents you see while pugging. I’ve been in dozens of “Trials” guilds since launch on both platforms. Most are still struggling with mechanics or are in “clear” not farming mode.
Only decent Trials guilds in this game are the ones that sell skins. And they don’t accept new members.

The barrier to basic entry and pauperish social tools are the root of the problem.

Never had any issues with any PUG group. Be it dungeons, trials etc just don't push leaderboards and everyone should be gucci.

Heck I tank PUG vet trials & dungeons on a NB and no ones ever said anything.

Yeah, and the strange thing is, PvP gets the bad rep around here for being the worst. PvP toxicity is nothing more than trash talking Call of Duty type try hards that see their toon as an extension of their own self worth, so it's very easy to rise above it. Whereas the stuff that gets said in some trial groups is just downright nasty. Luckily I haven't had anything aimed at me personally, but heard some awful stuff said to others. It's a game and if that sort of ruckus happens during a trial, I just leave it. Problem solved. Nothing lost. I've found some of the most toxic players to be those who hide behind good groups, but when there is no hiding and their shortcomings are exposed for all to see, they're the first to lash out at others.

Trial nights with my guildies are the only reason I still play this game. Lots of laughs and good chats, couldn't be better.

Trials with pugs.... I'd rather sh*t in my hands and clap
