The horror of trying to place a common barrel

I've just spent several minutes trying to place a common barrel so that it fits the rack in my Gardner House--impossible!
As soon as I press the left mouse button, the barrel ends up a few feet away from its original position and in a different angle, somewhere in the room. I tried both, 'surface drag on/off' and 'cursor mode', but nothing works. Even without the rack, it does what it wants.
Has anybody here the same problem or, even better, a solution?

That doesn't seem like it's supposed to happen. Tried relog? Or moved the rack to an empty flat space and tried again? Could be weird geometry that's causing the problem. I've had things go out of adjustment very slightly when putting objects together but nothing like you describe1 -

What worked is after placing it like you want and it does it's thing, select it again and without moving it place it again and sometimes it will twist back to the desired placement.XBox One NA1 -

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I logged in several times. Also, it is not just the barrel--I experienced the same when I tried to place some walls in the Gardner House' cellar, first and second floor.
Even when there's nothing near the space where I want to place it.
It might be a problem with the Gardner House. I just tried to place the same barrel in a different house and it works perfectly there.PC/EU0 -

After placing the barrel in my other house, where it worked as supposed, I went back to the Gardner House and then it worked there, too. Nevertheless, I'll keep your tip in mind. Thank you.PC/EU0
