What is a good way to build a Magicka Dragon Knight?

I have a Dunmer MagDK and I want to respec him. He's the first DK i ever made and he just seems to be meh. I see others talking about their magDK's and how they wreck and whatnot. Whats a good way to re-build my magDK?

PVE or PVP?

For PVP:

Sloads + duroks bane + 2 zaan

For PVE:

End game: 5 burning + 5 siroria + 2 zaan, vma staff backbar.
Easy to get: 5 julianos, 3 willpower, 2 skoria, random staves

Sload + durok + skoria
Torug + durok + skoria
Any oblivion + defile effectively counter any class
Skoria is better because you can just use entropy + light attack with restoration staff to poc oblivion enchant/set and your enemy has no way to heal due to durok.

Pretty much this.
Don't use Elf Bane in PvE. Not a good set.

I run Julianos, Burning spellweave and Vulkan Skoria.

Its good enough, easy 30K dps.

PVE - Currently I run BSW + Julianos, and will replace Julianos with Siroria when I have the right pieces.

For monster helm I carry 4 sets:

1.) Zaan; best for single target boss fights where you can be in melee range

2.) Skoria; best for boss fights where you need to keep range and/or keep mobile

3.) Grothdar; good for trash/high AOE fights where you can be in melee range

4.) Infernal Guardian; good for fights where you need to shield and take care of yourself a lot as it will still put out fire damage when you cast shields.

As far as your build goes I'm sure you've checked out templates; better to understand key skills and how they help you. Knowing how the heal works on burning embers; knowing how off balance works for flame lash. Keeping up engulfing flames for a damage boost. Etc. . .

Thank you! I have some Burning Spellweave in my bank still, I believe. I will be able to craft some Julianos pieces soon as well. I have the Skoria set that I will move to my DK. They are currently on my Sorc while I am farming for the Ilambris shoulders to go with my helm.

Why not? It basically means two extra whips per rotation, effectively increasing the total damage per cast of your entire DoT toolkit. I haven't played my magdk in a long time, but I've heard some pretty good things about it from people who tried it.

It's simply outperformed by other set combos. I tested a LOT on PTS and live and the 2 combos that yield much higher DPS are

perfected AS Staff, Willpower, Siroria(BSW for mobile fights), Zaan

Or

Siroria, BSW, Zaan

Both almost identical damage (around 48k), I find the first setup to be a tad bit better in fights like vCR.

Elf Bane on the other hand was about 2~3k ish lower DPS wise everytime.
But Alcast is using it so hey it has to be good right? xD

During the pre-PTS playtest weekend where ZOS invited 12 people to their HQ, they did a series of DPS tests on various builds, and mDK with acuity/elf outparsed everything else, including stamblade, so I think that's where that build originated from. Of course, that was pre-PTS, before the changes to acuity, the redesign of the Cloudrest sets, and other changes (which looks like why acuity got replaced by siroria in that build), but I don't think the other combat changes during PTS affected elf specifically.

Anyway, my mdk is still speced as a tank, so I'll take your word for it. But it is surprising to see your conclusion when that setup was reportedly the star of the playtest weekend.

Yeah well I think they didn't have time to properly test everything especially since they tried every class. Siroria was outperforming BSW as well as acuity even before it got changed (at least for me). I also tried a lot with elfbane on the PTS and it never really shined. I don't know, maybe that parse was lucky, maybe they only tried that one setup, hell maybe the devs changed sth without putting it in the natch potes. x)
