Spell damage , weapon damage

ForTheEmpire
Just wanted to be sure :
Staff light and heavy attacks also consider as weapon damage.
Active abilities whether they cost magic or stamina count as spell
Is it correct ?

    Incorrect.

Spell Power (SP) increases damage done by staves (both destruction & restoration) as well as any ability which costs magicka.

Weapon damage (WD) increases damage done by all the other weapons as well as any ability which costs stamina.

Ultimates are based on whichever stat is higher.

Do note that your maximum magicka and stamina also increases your damage in a similar fashion, but to a lesser extent than SP / WD.

It also works for healing abilities, e.g. rapid regeration costs magicka, thus will benefit from both Max magicka and SP.

Does bashing someone with my staff count as weapon damage?

The ratio is 10.5:1. 1050 magicka is 100 spell power and the same goes for stamina and weapon power.

Prior to this last update, light and heavy weapon attacks worked differently and the ratio for those used to be more like 40:1 so stacking spell power / weapon power over magicka or stamina made sense for the LA/HA weaving part of your rotation. But now they work the same way it does for abilities and it's 10.5:1 for everything.

They don't now and honestly, I can't remember when if ever they did.

Destro and resto staff attacks scale off magicka / spell power.
All other weapon attacks scale off stamina / weapon power.

Thanks for the current numbers. I always used 10:1 as a rule of thumb and knew it was slightly off but not sure how much.

These things should be in a complete, official, (online) guide. All those details, for instance difference between weapon and spell damage, the fact that the higher a pool, the more damage, the different types of damage, and for ex. what is penetration, and why does it differ from damage, ... etc; and so on.
It is not logical to me, that in order to find the answers, we need to search on unofficial wiki's, ask other players, wild guessing, etc.
The guides that are on the official website of ESO are telling way too little.

    Necromancy is alive!

No, seriously though, you make a good point. It’s quite confusing.

Necromancy? Don't mind if I do!

I actually googled it this morning to find out if "weapon damage" applied to staff attacks. Guess it doesn't.

This is outdated information now. Light, medium, and heavy attacks all scale with your highest offensive stat
