Before I start dungeons...

Basically in mmos I am a huge solo player who likes to play with my own builds no min maxing no dps meters and never aiming for or caring about max dps I simply play for fun

However I am trying to get my first monster helm which is from veteran direfrost. I am just curious the best way to go about this as I have no friends in game. Do I just use the dungeon finder (if that's even active)? Do i stand outside just looking for people?

I know I'm not a great player which makes it kinda difficult and I'd just bring down dps and most likely die. I'm just curious of any recommendations to not make this incredibly stressful

    What platform/zone ?
What is your role, dps i assume?

Vet direfrost can be a challenge for 1st timers especially with PUGs, better to do it with at least 1 person you sort of know.

But since you solo, then pug is the only way to go.
Well you can always join a guild - just ask ingame, someone will give you an invite or ask in grahtwood, but make it clear u r a first timer.
Some people wont want to, but some dont mind at all to carry someone doing their first run.

Main things for the last boss are understanding Droddas movements andmoving out of the red when she ports and to always have around ~9k+ stam to break her channel asap, which means avoid dodge or block but play the mechanics.

Run it on normal first several times until you know how to deal with the last boss' channeled stun on a random player that heals her back up. (It's just as simple as breaking it with LMB+RMB ASAP before she has a chance to heal much.)

Your best bet is to go in the guild forums here make the same post there and ask if someone will have you in their guild and take you through vet DF. You might even make some friends :)

BTW, it needs to be just a vet mode but not Hard Mode for the last boss to get the helm. Hard Mode is the version that causes PUGs problems.

I'd say run a pre-made group. A couple of decent 720 players and you will be fine.

A PUG mate get fussy with you if they wipe.and you using odd skills.

I joined this game to play it solo or with my IRL mates only. 3 years in I'm in loads of guilds, created one, made loads of friends in particular in PvP.

Perhaps find via this forum a group of people to dungeon with. And from there ask then for any small guilds to join. It will help you do so much.

It's only the elite trials crews really that will nark at you for your setup.

The simplest solution for someone that does not want to put in any work to be a competent player would be to get a healer leveled up instead for when you need to run group content to get something. That way all you have to do is let better players carry you through all but the hardest content, assuming you can manage to use healing skills properly.

The best thing you can do is wait for it to be the pledge at the undaunted then stand at the undaunted enclave and ask in zone chat for a group

Definitely get yourself in a guild. Even if you only do the occasional thing there:
    1. There's only so far you can get playing solo.
    2. Having others to play with/run content with really adds life to the game & lets you do thing that previously weren't possible.
    3. Vet PUGS can be toxic if someone isn't 'BiS' so unless you're confident with your ability I'd ask in Zone or a Guild.

PS4 EU? If so we can run it together with some of my guild mates or we pug it. I make sure you dont get a kick vote

Before you go in there take a look at this video as it explains all the mechanics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UINAT-wxTg
and here is another good one explaining even the mobs:

Just use the Group Finder. Wait for Direfrost to be the pledge. Queue for it. Watch a video of the dungeon beforehand if you haven't ever done it before.

These days, if I need to do a non-DLC dungeon (for the skill point, to get Undaunted, etc.), I often just wait for for it to be the pledge and use the Group Finder.

I hear all sorts of Group Finder horror stories, but they're really the exception rather than the rule. Even when queuing as the DPS, I usually get in within half an hour. Usually less than 15 minutes. There are times when the queue drags on forever, but that's rare (if it doesn't pop in 30 minutes, I'll dequeue and requeue--this has helped a number of times). The groups are generally competent enough to clear the dungeon. There are rare circumstances where the group is just terrible. But again, they are the exception, not the rule.

And yes, I have had Group Finder horror stories of my own. That I enjoy telling for the entertainment value. But people (myself included) generally don't talk about all the times when things were uneventful and things went just fine. So there's this misleading impression floating around that the Group Finder should be avoided. Use it. It's actually good.

@code65536 I hope you realize you just told someone that will DEFINITELY not have more than 10k dps to go queue for vet direfrost. Why would you inflict this person upon whoever is unlucky enough to get him in the group?

If you are worried about your dps, then I would create a healer or a tank for group dungeons and let the good dps help you get what you need.
