Trolled Relentlessly

kronoso1979b14_ESO
Anytime I ask a question I get trolled constantly. Then I get made fun big because of my age. Then I am told when I tell them to “troll most” and to leave me alone that so am the one with the problem.

Seriously?! This is why I am paying to play online? And how do they know where I live and how old I am? Are they hacking? I am on ps4. I have my PS4 settings to friends only. Are there no game moderators. I started to play awhile back and quit after getting to level 15 because of how nasty and toxic people were being.

There is an ignore function in game you can add people on.

Other than that do just ignore them, you don't have to reply to people at all.

Be care free and do not listen/read people. Also there are some great people normally who are willing to help new people. :)

There are a lot of toxic people in MMOs. Some of them are on this forum, and I guarantee they'll immediately jump on here to bully you. The best thing is to just expect it and not respond. :/

I'd just like to make the point that this game is 18+, so if you're underaged then you're going against Terms of Service and I'd advise you to not disclose your age otherwise they may remove you.

Secondly, don't take it to heart. You're young so I know it's not as simple as ignore-and-forget, but you'll find these issues everywhere on the internet. People love to troll. Even I love to troll people sometimes. Everyone does.

Ignoring is your best bet if you want peace. Don't bait them if you feel as though you can't handle the bite.

    I hope this helps.

I've never had any sort of issue like that on PS4. More likely you left one of your settings open or they know a guy who knows you.

Blocking is an idea, but judging by how early you quit I'm guessing you're low level. Without proper friends to grind with players can get kind of nasty to low levels :/

Edit: Is 1979 your birth year? Because if so you brought this on yourself.

Zone chat is where trolls go to troll each other. Turn it off (or just read it while enjoying your popcorn) and join a guild that explicitly states they are friendly and welcome new players.

You wouldn't happen to have been born in 1979 and have 1979 or 79 as part of your username, would you?

That's the only way I could imagine they're magically figuring out your age, unless you're implying it via conversation or have some setting on your profile unchecked - lots of people make a username with the year they were born.

You really do have to ignore them, though, since talking back encourages them. They'll get bored after a while. It's rough, and it can get to you though. ):

You won't change toxic people - but not all people are toxic.
There are, however, a few things that you can change / do to minimize their impact on you, and to attract more positive attitudes.
Look at your post : it starts with a big accusation and it presents yourself as a victim. Nothing about you as a player, no context, nothing.
Something like "hello, I'm a new player, I play on PS4, i have such and such problem with the game or the community, how do you think I can improve the situation ?" would go a long way into getting yourself a healthier environment.

    Just my 2 cents.

Best thing to do, troll back, sarcasm filter is good thing to have, when they start to insult your mom(this is really thing?) Just ask how they know her, etc. Insulting and idiot trolls are usually just kids who think they are smart. There are lot of great and helpfull folks around. Dont give up just for some idiots. Those you find in every MMO

I was actually waiting for this game to come out. It was supposed to be different than Wow or Dc Online. Someone ingame just messaged me and me the zone I was in was where the kid players hang out and harass the other players. So problem solved. I will just go to another zone if I need help with something.

My advice is that you join a guild, or ask your questions to people you alredy know, or even here, in the forums. Zone chat is...wild, at least. And really unuseful sometimes. Some other times you´ll find people who will gladly help you, though.

Friends? Those who know things about you and can share them?

You may want to find new friends, and there are plenty to be found in this game.

Best advice I can give is just avoid and ignore any toxic players.

Its better for your own mental health if you just ignore them and don't give them the joy of replying or such. Learning to ignore via just not replying rather than blocking is the best option if you can manage it, you'll get the smug joy of knowing it drives them crazy to troll to silence.

If anyone ever crosses the line and starts real harassment of you don't be scared to reach out to ZOS or Sony about it.

because trolls/bullies use whatever bothers the person. that is all. theres no other logic. so clearly its because it bothers OP.
things like : 'geez your 39 and you still can't [whatever]'

Theyll just use anything until they land on something that bothers the person and then latch on. Its kind of common.

Sadly, many game communities (and even more in the last few years, for some reason) have a certain amount of toxic players in them. This is, as of right now, just a fact about the internet and anything within it. Trolls exist. We cannot stop it.

So, what CAN we do about it? Utilize the tools we have, like blocking and ignore lists. Use your internet prowess to find communities (like guilds) that are low in or completely lack this toxicity. Start a campaign to work on the larger issue of trolls. Change what you can - so as you can't control other people, maybe there's something about yourself you can change. It's hard to take criticism for some, but remember, it's you taking a look at yourself and deciding what you want to do, it's no one else that's changing you.

If nothing else, it's sometimes good to take a break, even if you don't want to. Stop playing anything with a multiplayer component for a while, and after a while, solutions might become clearer or dealing with the issues might become easier.

Not everything here works for everyone, but it might help with the issues I think you're having.

I'm on PS4 as well and I can tell you I "always" leave chat turned off. If I play with others I always run through the PS4 party system and bypass the com options from ZOS, things are much better that way. As others have suggested if you want help or people to run things with do a little research and find a guild that will be suitable for your experience level and play style you'll find the game much more satisfying that way.

I've asked a lot of questions in zone chat and have never been trolled. I did have some guy ask if anyone had Sun gear, and I said I did, but it wasn't CP gear so he got snarky, but then everyone in zone chat started trolling him for being a huge D.

As a relatively new player coming from a way more toxic game, one of the things I noticed was that most toxicity tends to happen in the zone chats of areas with popular cities to hang out in (so like Reaper's March because a lot of people spend time in Rawl'kha, or Deshaan, because Mournhold is a popular main city).

If you want more friendly people to hang out with or ask questions, I noticed that guilds tend to be WAY more likely to have nice and friendly people in them, especially if the guild description mentions being a social or training or newbie-welcoming guild. People I meet in social guilds tend to go above and beyond what I would expect of anyone in terms of being helpful and welcoming with fair regularity in my experience. Also, most guilds have rules against trolling or being a jerk.

This game is far from toxic although like any MMO people can be a bit stupid. Im 46 and play. I really dont care if some kid tries to troll me for being old I usually just troll them back. Honestly though its never happened in ESO so maybe people are right and you are being a bit over sensitive.

Honestly, I used to think the same about how ESO was p much never toxic (esp since my experiences in toxicity are primarily from super toxic FPS game environments) and was confused about what my friends were on about wrt zone chat being toxic, but I've been realizing that a lot of it is just luck. Zone chat isn't always toxic, but it definitely happens sometimes that it gets pretty bad.

I also personally miss it a lot just because I pay more attention to guild chat.
