Is the EU Server always this Bad? Or is it just the Event causing problems?

I'm a bit fed up with the EU server at the moment and I'm seriously thinking of going back to the NA server, even though I'll lose all my DLC.

I haven't been playing very long, so although it'll be a pain to start over, it won't kill me (not like some poor bugger who's been playing for years). But I'd really rather not, because I enjoy the EU server much more than the NA server (there's less people on during my time zone).

But if these problems are an ongoing thing with the EU server (and not just caused by the event) then perhaps I'd be better off just cutting my losses now and starting over.

What do you think? Will the EU server get better once the event ends? Or should I cut and run now before I invest any more time into it?

It may be nothing to do with the event. Apart from a brief comment the other day about a problem with a major ISP we haven't had any explanation from ZOS, and given the scale of the issues this week we really should have a detailed explanation of what is happening, why, and what's being done about it.

However, I can recall plenty of occasions when it was the NA servers that were having issues, so I doubt that anything would be gained by switching.

Aha! So these problems aren't exclusive to the EU servers? It's just as bad on the NA server as well?

If that's the case, then I might as well just stay where I am.

    Thanks guys.

I have no experience with the NA servers, but under normal circumstances EU is playable and has few if any issues. However, as you can see, it might not handle pressure as well as NA ( judging from the fact that NA hasn't needed maintenance nearly as often in this period).

There's been speculation that ZOS gives more TLC to NA, and treats EU as second-class - and from my own experience with North Am. IT service providers compared to European ones, this is credible. Everyone looks after their own.

That is not correct. Anything you buy from Crown store is SERVER-sided. That means any DLC you buy on EU will only be unlocked on EU server. If you're an eso+ that's a whole other matter.

Chapters are unlocked on account basis but not the dlcs.

Sadly, this isn't the case. Anything I bought from the crown store (like the Dark Brotherhood) isn't available on the other server. Which sux so badly I get furious just thinking about it :#

If you sub then that will crossover to the other server. As will your crowns. Your characters and any crown store stuff you have will not. I made my eu character a little over a year ago when I was having issues playing on na. I have a ps4 eu character but rarely play there as performance is really bad.

FWIW, their story that it's an ISP issue does seem to check out--when I saw the thread go up today about people not being able to get on, I tried to log onto the EU server (I'm in the US) and had no problems. So it would seem to be an issue with the route to the server, and I guess only some routes are affected, as the overseas one from NA doesn't appear to be. I've been logging onto EU every day of this event to do writs, and the server performance seemed fine and never had any login issues.

It's normally fine outside the normal lag in Cyrodiil.

The last days have been something uncommon. The last issues like this if I recall was the NA issues last year due to DDoS attacks.

Im getting a little fed up now. I spent a nice afternoon in the sun, enjoying myself, I come home, want to relax a little and BOOM the servers are off AGAIN for the FIFTH time in THREE days.

Tell me again how its our fault and not theirs?

Is Frankfurt falling into chaos, are all systems offline everywhere? Banks being raided at every corner? No? Well then CLEARLY it is ZOS' fault.

This week has been noticeably worse than most but the EU server has been increasingly shaky since the start of the year (for example patch maintenance often needing to be done twice rather than once unlike the US one). Generally ping response spikes and fps drops across all regions seem to have risen since the start of 2018 as well but not to the extreme levels we have seen during this latest event.

Overall I'd say that ZOS have some much needed work to do somewhere in their systems to make these things an exception rather than a daily standard and until that is done these things are only going to get worse.

Whether the problems this week are something seperate and identifiable or merely that the extra load has pushed existing problems to a tipping point we don't know because ZoS are being very secretive about the whole thing.

The only weakness is that is an higher chance for updates to fail causing extended downtime during the updates.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Generally speaking, the EU server seems to be less reliable than NA. Every now and then we get streaks of crashes/poor performance, this isn't the first event when we have annoyingly many maintenances. I remember at least two when I couldn't play 2-3 evenings in a row. However, it might really not be ZOS' fault this time.

If it's a isp zos can't really do anything especially if it telecom De as they pretty much run everything in Germany similar to how akamai run most gateways on the east coast. These connection issues aren't on zos but it would be super cool if they gave EU a few more days of the event

Yes, that was one day. A single day. Since then, and befor then though, they cannot blame a power outage. Again, Ill give them that ONE day, but honestly, what competant company doesnt have a backup generator?

    The servers have been dodgy.

But the EU culture is dramatically different to the NA. It seems nice to have it quiet but as I've found out you can spend 20 minutes for someone to deign to answer a basic question in zone chat. You'd have better luck getting a group as a pug in DC pvp :P

I spent over an hour in Deshan and everyone totally pretended the other 200 people weren't there, unless they wanted to x for dolmens. Zone chat totally dead.

I had to go back to NA just to get my question answered (milliseconds) then go back to EU.

I'm sure there are good things about Eu so I'll stick it out and hope lol.

I play NA, but while being there it is low populated, don´t face any issues there mostly, but they occure.
ON EU I face more issues, but think it is while I am there Prime Time, but all in all, I think it is not that bad.

I log on both servers from NA. In Cyrodil both are awful, but BGs and PvE have not been too bad minus a few times when it lagged and there were 1-shot components...

NA PvE experience definitely lags less often though, and there are far less incidents of a bugged/broken dungeon queue or bugged BG queue that seems to happen almost daily on the EU servers.

Same. I am in NA and have characters on both servers. I have not had hardly any issues with the EU server. Oddly, I experience more random DCs from the NA server and physically I'm barely 2 hours away from it.
