The easy answer, there are an infinite number of guilds

Obviously we can't keep adding trader NPCs for every single guild out there, it's not even feasible.

I have never liked the current setup as it too easily allows certain guilds to hold on to their guild traders making it next to impossible for any new trade guilds to be successful.

Not to mention the fact that it is highly annoying to have to run all over Nirn spending hours trying to hunt down the one item you want.

It's not like there isn't any presidense in previous elder scrolls games for Pawnbrokers or anything.

they have stated numerous times over the year that there will never be an auction house. be glad. that would ruin the game

Yeah, wouldn't want to have everyone able to participate in the economy, that would suck!

(but yeah, there's never going to be an auction house. Do they have a list of forum topics that get auto-locked? Auction houses should probably be on it....)

everyone can participate in the economy --- if you dont want to join a guild, then do your business in zone chat. i do both

    and it's sooo efficient. CRAP.

I believe it is more about how much load each guild store would put on servers. Each time one make a search one need to download a copy of what is put up in database for sales.

The way ESO have been designed is probably related to built in limitation related to servers load and capacity. Even in GW2 where they have a central AH server independent on where in game world you where there have been times where AH server went down or didn't respond because of too many transaction being done.

Every guild? Every player should have one.

When housing was first announce I hoped part of it would be the ability to set-up a shop manned by an NPC to sell my wares similar to how that works in EQ2.

    or SWG... :)

and yes I agree, every player should be able to set up an NPC vendor in their house that people can buy from (or even sell to) even when the selling player is offline.

Just put a vendor search NPC in every major city that can search all vendors and gives you a waypoint to said vendor to buy from!!

This is kinda how it was set up in Dark Ages Of Camelot. Every house had it's own merchant only DAoC's housing was in an actual zone with actual houses. You could search for items at the entrance to the zone but you still have to locate and run or ride to the actual house to buy from them.

i'd like to hear the ruining the game line of thinking. because as the dead horse thread tell us = "oh nooooooooes, jonnyy19232958329358252 bought all the dwax and has set the price at 1 million gold each." solution = don't buy it. durrrr, windowlickers!

    1)it is a game!
2)more people selling creates competition in price
    3) if some fool tries to corner the market, let them, then don't buy it, or set your price between theres and the actual and benefit from the idiocy.

stop acting like letting more people play in the sandbox is going to mess up your precious little game/racket. :-)

I know that this was an issue in GW2. Wealthy players would purchase all of the rarest items off the auction house and then charge 3x as much. Any time someone found one of these rare items and went to sell it at a reasonable price, again, said people would just buy it and add it to their own exclusive collection of overpriced listings. It ruined the market. Not saying that this example is why Zeni does their market differently, but it was certainly frustrating to deal with on GW2.

And I have not heard 1 valid reason against it...just lots of opinions and regurgitated BS.

See we can both argue till our eyes bleed, its mostly opinions on BOTH sides. And there are equal numbers of people on both sides of the argument. So you can stop this personal validation thing. Just point out why you think a central AH is best and move on. or the opposite...I don't care. Just don't go around acting like your opinion somehow is more valid then others.

On the note of the OP: Something that hasn't been mentioned much yet is the nature of the traders and their locations means some locations are simply more valuable then others...if every guild got one how would we work the whole "choose your trader" thing? we would somehow need a way to give guilds an equal chance to competitively play for the guild trader they want, in a way that every guild could also do so if they chose to.

Hmm, perhaps a bidding system? that way the guilds can make gold in guild and use it to bid for the best traders! oh wait...

Whether you like the current system or not, the fairest solution to giving EVERY guild a chance (Opportunity, not results...) to select the merchant they want in a system where certain locales are simply going to be more profitable (Rawl'ka...cough...), is to base it on a bid system with a currency that everyone in game gets. It's as simple as that.

And yes, I'm aware of the current issues with the system and high level guilds taking advantage of that. It's still the fairest solution given the merchant system that's in place. they just need to close a few loopholes...it's an issue with the dev team, not the system.

Always think from a monetization perspective. You want a trader? Buy enough accounts to do it!

That actually shouldn't be that expensive nowadays.

Lotro had the best auction house system

The games people refer to as having good auction houses also have multiple servers to divide the population. And when you go to their forums it takes very little time to find several threads about auction house abuse.

An auction house in ESO would create an easy opportunity for a few players to gain a monopoly on rare items.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

    Since they won't I will.

    Because Zos said NO.

I don't agree with the idea but thats the fact that ultimately counts and has ultimately counted for the last several years that people have been asking for an open trading system and not some bidding war system just to get an open spot.

Who knows maybe the corpse just needs a few more years of beatings. Just look at the fact they are finally implementing two handers counting as two set pieces after years of beating the ground where that horse's corpse had been.

I love auction houses. But that's because I'm not a huge wheeler-dealer looking to maximize my profit - I'm a small-time trader who just wants to toss a couple things a month up (at a good undercut so it sells fast) or find basic supplies at a reasonable rate.

(That second part would be somewhat possible here, if ZOS would give guild vendors an actual useful interface. Being able to keyword search and/or sort be price-per-unit, for instance.)

But I know that's not in the cards here, so.... eh, whatever.

Tbh, what they should have done was get rid of all the trader bidding, and have the ability for each guild in the game once it reached about say 250 members the ability to put up a vendor for that guild in certain designated spots and only one vendor per guild and have each vendor as an npc throughout the empty spots around the main capitals.

Well I doubt they would care as long as all the vendors were scattered amongst the whole empty areas of the Capital city right? They would all be within one city limit rather than locations around in the world including beneath the world which hardly anyone goes to.

This system would have been alot better if they just scattered vendors throughout the whole empty spots in each capital city with spots for vendors and only one spot per guild rather than spreaded throughout the entire world and only available to the richest of guilds but that's my thought on it

It would be really good for balancing.. everyone would be able to get the gear they want. I imagine the only people who keep arguing that it would "ruin the economy" are people who already have lots of gold and would be afraid to not be able to make 100k on a single item anymore... and I don't mean that, it's fact. This economy is too much like RL.

Dude.. it's just a game. Who cares about "economy". I play this game because it's fun, not because I can be richer than others; and I have a hell of a lot more fun when i have the gear I want.

I'm not an old dude but I grew up playing games simply for the fun of the game. And that's how I play this one; I'll never be a millionaire in ESO and I'm fine with that. Just wish there was an easier way to buy the stuff I want, instead of playing the big wigs little competition game of who's richer- friggin stupid.
