Why can't every guild have a trader?

better yet, why can't we have an AUCTION HOUSE like almost every other successful MMO?

then you would have thousands of empty traders because most guilds dont trade and would never find anything. its really easy once you get used to it. you know the good towns and if you wanna find a good deal you go to towns that are not popular, its not hard

I actually really like the way EQ2 and SWG handled this.

In SWG there was a central area (the bazaar) where you could search for the item you wanted to buy. Once you found it you got a waypoint to the players house. You then traveled to their house, went inside, and interacted with a vendor NPC. You could also offer items to the NPC and the owner could buy from you too.

In EQ2, it was very similar only you could choose not to travel to the player's house and pay a fee instead, to get the item directly from the bazaar.

This creates competition and means guilds have to actively work to be good and beat other guilds.

In DAOC you bought a merchant at your house, it listed all your stuff for sale on a central merchant NPC. You could buy it there for a fee or go to the sellers house and save the fee.

I hate the system they have here, it's a real pita, can't be bothered traveling all over the place trying to find stuff, don't feel like spending hours just looking for gear.

every guild can have a trader; you do have to make sure you have enough members and a good bid to get one And, as @magictucktuck stated, a Tamriel filled with traders hired by guilds that sell almost nothing is undesirable and unrealistic

Some basic reasons, some of which have already been mentioned in this thread:
    1) It creates healthy competition between guilds.
    2) Not every guild trades, or needs a trader. Besides, with your idea, there would be thousands of extra NPCs clogging up the game world. No thanks.
    3) Two words which I am tiring of reiterating every other thread about trade guilds: gold sink. Also see #1.

Less traders = more demand = more gold wasted on bids.

Since the only effective/useful part of the system is the gold sink aspect of it, this is important.

Yeah, wouldn't want to have everyone able to participate in the economy, that would suck!

(but yeah, there's never going to be an auction house. Do they have a list of forum topics that get auto-locked? Auction houses should probably be on it....)

Underscoring the "everybody can participate in the economy" point, it's also not at all hard to join a trade guild. There are loads, at least on PC EU, that have very low or no requirements to join.

If you want to get your own guild into the system, then start saving up money, hold guild events like raffles, etc.

This, lots of the more remote traders just has junk as guild is not an trading guild. but an small social one or an PvP or trial guild neither produce much items for sale.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

i'd like to hear the ruining the game line of thinking. because as the dead horse thread tell us = "oh nooooooooes, jonnyy19232958329358252 bought all the dwax and has set the price at 1 million gold each." solution = don't buy it. durrrr, windowlickers!

    1)it is a game!
2)more people selling creates competition in price
    3) if some fool tries to corner the market, let them, then don't buy it, or set your price between theres and the actual and benefit from the idiocy.

stop acting like letting more people play in the sandbox is going to mess up your precious little game/racket. :-)

    1) Are you sure?
    2) If your guild didn't trade they would simply not setup a trader... duh, and maybe if they could have one they would use it.
2b) There wouldn't be any NPCs at all if they just move the trader NPC inside of an instanced house / guild hall.
    3) Could still be a gold sink.

Imagine if there are one billion guilds out there and each of them had one billion traders everywhere... It would make things... bit hard to find. :) Its already time consuming to search from store to store for a certain item or the cheapest item..

Not if you develop a way for people to search all the traders at once, from 1 of several central locations.
You find what you are looking for then you travel to go get it...

I been playing mmorpg since FFXI and I always been into the economy side of mmorpg. And treated it as another thing to play in FFXI and every mmorpg afterward I study the aucation House sale history and bought cheap/sold high..

When I first played ESO I was so against the guild trade system but now I appreciate it. It the main reason why I keep coming back to eso because the economy playstyle is more fun and meaningful imo
