Suggestions for new weapon line/type

I have heard that ZOS have requested suggestions for new weapon lines.

IMHO
It would be really nice to have a weapon that could be effectively used at melee range that allowed for regen of Magicka in a similar manner to dual wield. In a similar way it would have melee range mag skills rather than the current option of using a range weapon if you want to play a mag version of your class.

I doubt we'll see any new weapon lines, but if they're taking ideas, I'll post the same ones I've been asking for since PC launch:

Polearms/Spears and Crossbows.

Anywho, The absolute number 1 priority for new weapon skill lines is magicka based dual wield/1 hand & shield or whatever you will call it. Wands, orbs, runes, spells, call it what you will.

The skill line should be: focused on damage (think magicka version of dual wielding) and tanking (magicka version of sword & board).

Something that once and for all makes a viable magicka option to 2-handed staves, without having to resort to stamina based weapons such as dual wield or sword & board.

Anything else is secondary.

Seriously though, thank you all for sharing your ideas for new weapon type/skill line, they're all great ideas. We especially liked knuckle weapons, and the idea of a Magicka-based melee weapon. While we can't promise anything, feedback and suggestions are always greatly appreciated, we love reading them and hope to see more.

I'm surprised no one has said lightsabers yet. I'd love a spear/shield combo or polearms or even some nunchucks.

Magika DW is a fun playstyle right now and its sad ZOS seem intent on stopping it viability. It's had nerf after nerf sadly but its a fun way to play albeit niche now

Thus keeping it in the mix or a substitute like 1H & rune would be great.

Every magika user running two wands is a bit dull let us have battle mage style action!!

I would love if they reworked ice destruction back to DPS and have alteration or illusion staff as a new weapon skill line for magicka tanking

Spears and crossbows would be on the top of my list. I miss spears....

More "whimsical" request would be unarmed weapons/staves... I wanna play as Goutfang Monk and beat enemies to death in glorious fashion with either my fist or a long piece of wood with a blunt metal object on either end.

I wonder how much do you like reading about spears/halberds. Probably the whole community needs them so much since the original TES Morrowind, which is for over 15 years by now. Yet you never implemented this weapon, despite your creative teaser for Skyrim and an obvious reason - you present this weapon on many different statues in eso and it's an obvious choice for Argonians.

I would add two new weapons:

Throwing Daggers -- these would be a ranged weapon, with a slightly shorter range than a bow. Make them extra attractive to magicka users.

Morningstar/Spear -- this would be a longer range melee weapon. Morningstars(flails) are like whips with a mace head at the end, so a whip animation would be cool. Spear is an obvious choice too.

by the northeast dolmen in reaper's march there is a weapon rack with a spear on it...its odd for spears to be in the game but not usable by us.

yep, 1h+rune would be the magicka tanking equivalent, or even DPS why not, just like frost staff works. The rune will be one-handed and will have 3 specializations: illusion, alteration, and conjuration. The alteration one will be like the frost staff, will be used for tanking. The other two will be dps ones.

various places from elder scrolls have 1h+rune, even the most popular, Skyrim. And since we don't have all the magic schools implemented, this would be really awesome. Like there's 3 kinds of staves, there'll be the 3 kinds of rune, which you combine with any one-handed weapon you like.

about the hand to hand, unarmed fights, sounds kinda low. What's the difference between this and a dagger? That you wrap the dagger around your fist? And if you talk about empty hands, that wouldn't be much use against a heavy armor, right?

I don't know about new weapons, but I'd like my fire staff to have a channeled heavy attack like the lightening staff. It sucks to build up a heavy attack just to have it miss sometimes.
