This Is Why We Need Capes

I turned my Sorc into Magneto. But, he has no matching purple cape. :( ZOS pls add various capes that we can add on to our costumes and outfits. Kinda similar to how we can add on a facial accessory or hat.

Edit: I didn’t think so many of you would like the outfit I made. I got a few PSN messages about it too. I’ll upload more pictures later on. :)

now I dont understand people here....its just ironic as they def there wouldnt be to mch hard content etc because of casuals but also wont add more thing for casuals lol

This is very cool dude well done and purple cape would finish it off for sure.

The argument for capes and cloaks has been done to death. The reason why ZOS won't add them is because of limitations of the physics engine that ZOS are using for the game. If you want capes and cloaks, expect the game to perform worse than it already is.

This is why capes don't work for Zos. This was their trailer image of the Breton Hero, with a cape:

    00e32da836ea3ecaf43a157ded6d2403.jpg

AND this is how Zos coded it....glued to you in a static motion that looks like you're either constipated or you just have a very thick trunk with a semi cape thing that sticks to you like a fly strip.

If Skyrim modders working for free could do it, ZOS could do it.

The engine used in Skyrim and the engine used in ESO are completely different. Additionally, Skyrim is a single player game so there isn't much in terms of rendering needed.

Capes has two problems, either they look horrible or they need cloth physic who is pretty cpu intensive, this is an serious problem if you get 100 players at once in an city.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

skyrim is a solo game dude eso has thousands of players and each players computer has to render in the textures and physics of every object in a particular area. they tried capes in alpha but couldn't get it right so I'm sure they'll re-attack later on wen technology catches up.

its jsut funny....played gw2, graphic isnt even worse...have every possible part of outfit "animated"...as this simple robe will move with just wind if you staying in place...
now think how it work when on pvp 3 big BLOBS, with 40+ people in each blob and evry player have animated parts of outfit and there is no lag!
yes yes in big blobs on pvp was no bigger lag with much much more details, things to upload while in eso where everything is just rigid, no single animation on player outfit and able to feel lag from another end of map while just 2 bigger zerg (not blobs) are fighting at cyrodil mid

so now just thing how ZOS just *** on us with their performance and ignorance to fixing this

considering that all current capes, cloaks, robes and other voluminous garments are already glued to your legs in a very awkward onesie kind of way, I'd say that asking for capes is a very optimistic suggestion.

This is all we get :-(

In an ideal world capes would be great, particularly as an alternative to Guild Tabards, so capes that have your colour scheme / guild logo.

However from my experience doing 3d modelling / game asset creation as a hobby, In terms of wanting the game to run smoothly (or at least not any worse...) capes are not a good idea. As stated above, accurate cloth physics simulation are a real strain on CPU.

It's much easier to pull off in a single player game cause the develops have more control over how much stuff can happen in one area at one time, not the case in an MMO.

They likely could only really implement stiff cardboard-looking capes / capes that look glued to you, without affecting performance and I doubt they'd be overly popular.

    Nice Magneto!

Re: capes, I'm of two minds... on the one hand, they look awesome. On the other, they can create a lot of lag and framerate loss. ESO is already prone to performance issues, and I can only imagine the nightmare that would be Cyrodiil with 50+ people packed into one area with capes fluttering around. In LOTRO, players were ordered to disable their capes in PvMP zones and poorly optimized raids, but there were always a few aholes who refused...

Whenever I mount and head off to my next task, one of the most striking issues stands out in the game: my character's hair simply doesn't flow. The long hair just.... bobs up and down as my senche speeds onward.

If ZoS can't make hair, a small asset on a person, work well, I'd dread to see what the game would do to capes.

The Engine is fully capable of doing cloth and therefore capes:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k_r9EkPFb4

So the true reason is rather if they are able to introduce such a module into their modified engine, or if it is a performance issue when too much cloth is on screen.

There is a good chance that the Havok product ZOS implemented for ESO is the Havok Physics engine for collision detection and not the Havok Cloth engine that you just linked.
