For those who don't speak german (And I still don't know what OP wants to tell us with that):

Q: What confuses us is the number of 200 players per battle. Why can only 200 players take part in a battle when up to 2.000 players can be in a campaign?

A: That has something to do with the minimum system requirements of the game. It means that this game should run at min. 30 FPS in every possible situation, even with 200 players in your field of view. That's how the number comes about. So you can have 201 players in your view but maybe then the FPS will drop to 29,9.

Q: Does that mean there can be 200 players in front of you and another 300 in your back?

A: Yes, that would be a 500 player battle.

Campaign population limits have been dropped at least twice since this was published, as part of trying to address lag. This information quoted is out of date by several years.

at launch it was just like you stated here "200 in front of you and 300 behind you"
and there wasnt really bad lagg, Lagg existed YES and you got booted from server from time to time, Yes, but it wasn't Horrible.

then that lighting patch hit, and BAM it was sever lagg and then they added champion points and now colored armor.
so today we can have about 75 people MAX on the entire server and we get Extreme Lagg.

the devs claim "no, it was not that lighting patch that caused this, No."
but we all know it Was,

    it was that lighting patch.

I don't think that's the point. The point is that AvA was advertised in interviews to be as Matt describes above.

Now ZOS tells us ESO as a whole is wildly successful, yet they make NO apparent effort to improve AvA in a meaningful way.. In fact, they've gone in the other direction by implementing 12 player instanced PVP in the form of Battlegrounds. It's shameful that what was once a key component to the game was put on life support so early.

We have a legitimate gripe as customers. We *should* be outraged. We shouldn't let this topic die. It's not like ZOS ran out of money and had to shut down.

By all indications, ZOS is rolling in money and still not doing what's necessary to deliver the product sold to us. That's why I call this an issue of ethics at the end of the day.

ZoS don't care about complaining at forum, want such basic issues fixed - get a lawyer, if you're US resident of course.

Thanks zyk, that's one big point!

Also many people aren't playing since headstart, they didn't hype the game months before release. Everyone should know what happened in this game and what was promised.

"200 in front of you and 300 behind you"....

So if your in the back of this 500 person group, do you turn around and run backwards? so the majority is behind you and only a small number is in front of you? If so i may of figured out what everyone is doing wrong. You should enter battles ass first and stay at the back of the zerg.

This 2013 stuff has no bearing on 2018 ESO at all. I mean, it still had no bearing back in 2013~2014 either. Shows how long they've been detached from the reality of the game.

The test was kinda failed tho. They made it double AP and the entire campaign was stacking at 1-2 outposts. There were like 200 people in one outpost so it wasnt really an actual resemblance of what PVP usually looks like.

And they've removed the animations of some AOE skills so the server doesnt lag. Next thing you know they'll replace player characters with blue/yellow/red hitboxes.

    it was that lighting patch.

Your right in the lighting patch went something wrong.

The lighting patch had 2 major components:
    - Lighting system
    - Anti Bot cheating mechanisms

Before lighting patch we had millions of bots everewhere. To explain the lag: With the anti bot cheating mechanisms some calculations are moved to server side. And this broke the game. Before that patch the calculations where splitted over thousands of game clients, after that patch the server must handle all calculations in realtime.

They added the anti bot cheating mechanisms very fast after launch, so it couldnt implemented very well. To implement a game communication and client/server architecture in that way you need years. In TESO case they must complete reimplement it and this is not possible. You cannot easy increase server hardware if the code and system architecture doesnt allow this massive calculations. All we can hope is they have a master plan and are willing to invest money to fix this. But this needs time, much more time on already running system as you create a new system.

As someone who tested the game during that first Cyrodiil beta test and thoroughly enjoyed this game at launch more than anytime since, it's been quite an eye-opening experience to watch the degradation of NA PC ESO these past 4 years. Not just has the pvp population has dwindled to 1/100 of that at launch, but the fact that you can count the amount of guilds per faction on one hand is terrible.

This came from less and less developer interaction, communication, and development with/for the pvp community. It became clear years ago that pvp was no longer a priority and their focus shifted to cash shop-related features and appealing to casual pve'ers/rp'rs.

I return to the game from time to time to visit friends who can't seem to accept the fact that the rest of the 99% of us who left ESO have, they deserve better. Hopefully games like Crowfall and Camelot Unchained who only aim to appeal to pvper's, rather than to every gaming preference, become our new mmo homes.
