Play how you like.

This is an MMO, guys. Yes, it is. But landscape is in every way like a single-player game. It's single-player difficulty and having other players around all the time is annoying. Why am I saying this? Because it seems that the only way to play this game is barging in and demolishing everything before someone else can. All these self-serving, obnoxious sorcs pull whole rooms and they literally think they are good.

The point is "play how you like" went out the window a long time ago. You try to play the assassine type character? Good luck with that. You try to play like a personal sneaker game, avoiding detection, solving quests without contact with the enemy? Don't make me laugh... How? When there is always a bunch of players running ahead of you in the same space, playing how they like. Like I said, there is only one way to play this thing: kill everything fast and then complain how easy the game is.

The other thing is attention to detail. People always so proudly proclaim that this game pays great attention to detail like very few others. Well, I'm here to tell you it's not true. This game is exactly like every other, only caring about churning out and selling as much bland, dumbed-down content as they possibly can without looking overly greedy. Attention to detail has never been this game's strength. I'm about to finish the main quest chain of the 3rd alliance, all 15 zones done, and with very few exceptions, the buildings where the quests took me were almost all empty. Nothing to loot. Pointless to even look around for containers. How am I supposed to play a thief like this?

Why am I saying this? Because I'm extremely disappointed with Summerset. There are no new systems to develope your playstyle around. There is no expansion on existing systems, like the Justice System. There is no revamping old zones. It feels like a cash-grab. More quests of the same kind. More buildings of the same kind. No addressing the game's issues.

Also, before you try to come here to say this is an MMO and it's supposed to feel like one. I'm not questioning that. All I'm saying is that landscape is designed for single player with the added nuisance of a bunch of people trying to do the same quests in the same space at the same time, which makes it impossible to play how you like.

If you want a single player experience, then go play skyrim.

This game says on the tin that other players are going to be a thing.

And while you are able to play however you want, other people are also allowed to play how they want.

Summerset has jewelry crafting with new traits and a new skill line.
Not sure what you mean by no new systems. There's two right there..
And we don't exactly know if or what issues will be addressed yet. We hardly have any information on that. Way, way too early to make that judgment. Doubt that'll stop you from jumping to conclusions, though..

You can play how you like as long as you are not competitive. To compete you have to fall in line and follow the meta.

My only interest in Summerset is jewelry crafting, still waiting in further info before committing to buy it.

Play-as-you-like has a different connotation to me. I thought it meant being able to do the content in any order, being able to use any weapon on any class, being able to play any class as stamina or magicka, and being able - in the 4-man dungeons at least - to fill any role, DD, tank, or healer, with any character. You could also argue that the economy lets you play-as-you-like. For example I used to make my gold exclusivekly from Tel Var, leaving others to supply me with Bind-On-Equip armor sets and (gold) crafting materials.

Play how you like is a very ambivalent term and open to interpretation.
What If I wanted to be able to gank you, at any time, in any town? I'm sure you wouldn't like that, but there are people that like and want that playstyle.

So no matter how open and flexible a game is, the developers have to set thresholds on what is acceptable "play as you like". Usually when I see threads like this, It's from players who really want that solo player experience in an MMO. Which isn't going to happen. ever...since the whole MMO thing revolves around Massive amounts of multiple players playing all at once...

Don't get me wrong. I emphathize. I hate it when I'm sneaking through an area, and some yokel runs through aggroing everything, suddenly realizes this, then runs back to me for help trailing 8 mobs behind him, it's irritating. When I'm trying to finish a quest that involves whittling a mob down, then triggering X item on him, it's frustrating to have some goofball run behind you and finish off every mob before you can trigger the quest item.

This is the nature of MMO's, and no matter what they said on the ad (remember, marketing = purposeful misdirection)), you will run into people of all types, so you need to simply be aware.

While that may be true at the highest levels (vet trials) of PvE, I think PvP has more variability.

I come from the single player side of things and this was my first MMO, that said I don't get these arguments. Other people playing it cool or acting a fool makes no difference there is no A.I. in existence that can match the living world that other people create in this game. I play Solo 99.9% of the time in this game and after trying it, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh and as a side note: Don't look for TES 6 anytime soon. Why in the world would they put all that money into a single player game knowing that the franchise will sell that game for release price maybe a year, year and a half when they are getting a new full price release every year. IMHO TES 6 will not come out until this game is on its last leg and I'll probably be too old to care by that point. Don't get me wrong, I want TES 6 but I don't look for it to happen before I retire, if at all.

If anything I'd bet if this game gets much better you will see the Fallout franchise get the same treatment.

You can choose any race, any weapon and any class and make a character that is fine for levelling and 90% of normal mode content. That is play how you like.

If you are in one of the starter zones, capitals, Craglorn, new expansion or where there is an event going on you will have to put up with other players.

If you go to a random normal zone delve or overland you will be lucky to see another player every five minutes and this is on PC USA in prime time. Play how you like.

PS: Constant lags of 999+ and frequent disconnects. Not playing the way I like. :(

Have you done the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines? If you’re into sneaking its the perfect content. Mostly solo so you wont get bothered by other players much. There are also item sets that increase movement speed while sneaking, reduce the detection radius or passives that reduce the cost of sneaking.

You can also make a decent profit from stealing when you max out the amount items that you can sell to the fence.

Agreed. And I'm pretty tired of seeing this as their main selling point. Sure, you can play how you like...when it comes to overland content that is--but even then only to a certain degree.
When it comes to doing vet dungeons/dlc/trials and other challenging content? Good bloody luck with that non-meta build of yours that you were enjoying. Oh, not wearing certain sets, using certain skills, at a certain CP level, or throwing out tens of thousands of dps? HAH!

Then there's the issue with them constantly nerfing and changing the meta, and the power creep that CP brings... it's getting old. I wish CP was removed tbh. It's a garbage system.
Now its "Pay how you like."
    Amen.

The reason sometimes wardrobes, boxes, urns are empty, is because there is a cool-down on them. If you looted your tax it takes around 10 minutes before you come across full baskets again.

You can play this game how you like, you don't need to play meta to complete 90% of the content. Difference is tho, if you don't play it you exctually have to follow mechanics of boss fights, you have to know how to play your characte, be patient and work together as a team.

A few friends and I started over on a new server early this week, we are around CP 160 right now. We are running with easy to come by gear in the wrong traits. We still managed to do all non dlc vet dungeons in HM's, without dying on most of them we also got a speed run. Next are the DLCs.

    Play How you Like!
Battle, Craft, Fish, Steal, Siege, or Explore!

So, what part of that isn't satisfied with your complaint about people... Playing the game.. near you?

You can indeed do any one of those things. I think that Tag Line's immediate description pretty much covers everything you Dislike but doesn't once mention the things you want.
It less means they "Lied" and more means you didn't pay any damned attention and just pulled a descriptive term out of the aether, didn't bother with context or their own description of it, and assumed it should allow you to preform any task any way you want at any time.

I see "Play How You Like" used way too often as the launching point for complaints about literally everything.
Each class fills a general niche but allows enough flexibility to fill other roles. Most MMOs don't allow for that kind of flexibility. People complain "phyl" because their favorite waifu class doesn't do EVERYTHING flawlessly, and is better at some things than others.
You can even re-spec your character and give them an entirely different build (Or try to). Don't like DPS? Tank. Don't like Tank?

I mean, seriously - everything else is really all on you.

The problem is newer generations like yourself no longer understand that multiplayer means playing together or playing against one another. It does not mean playing the same sinle-player content alongside one another.

In case you still don't understand... an MMO is not an MMO because there are multiple people in it, it's an MMO because the content is multiplayer.

Actually, that's not true. The MMO bit was coined to highlight a difference between previous games (where very few folk could be online simultaneously) and the then new "massively". It reflected simply: Hey! Look, we can handle hundreds...nay...thousands of people online.

The "need to group" came from a different source; the design ideas of the dev houses who produced the MMORPGs. It was rather quickly noted, too, that the interpretation of "need to group/socialise" was costing them and lo! evolution occurred to where we are now.
