Pros and Cons in Teso versus World of Warcraft

darthrahneb17_ESO1
Greetings.
I have been playing WoW since 2007 year(as my subscription says). But myself being a big fan of The Elder Scrolls series I bought this game as soon it was released, started playing for a bit then left it, and returned into WoW.

Now I wanna try it out again, here are my thoughts about Teso:
PROS
  1. Graphics are great. I haven't yet experienced graphics set to Ultra(if it exists), but even medium is great. Althought WoW also having many graphical improvements.
  2. Character advancement is also very interesting. You can be a caster, you can be a tank, you can be a dps. Just get enough champion points. All professions are learnable w/o needing to respec.
  3. Map - It is huge and as I can see there are many empty spaces reserved for future expansions, ideas, DLC!
  4. Lore - This game got a huge lore background, lots of quests, NPCs are talking to each other and etc. However World of Warcraft also got a huge lore behind, if not bigger.
CONS
  1. Combat - A mess. No. A BIG FREAKING MESS! I ran 3 or 4 veteran dungeons and all I have seen was cleave, cleave, lighting, lighting. There were some bosses between fights! Sorry but this is not a good idea to just put everything into a one cup. Where is CC? Where is the planning? Oh there was some lore and quests inside, but since everybody in rush you can not read NPC storylines. And addons seems to not working(recount for example).
  2. Social interraction - In dungeon groups there were no talking at all, but maybe I am not that lucky. I can not even press friendly player portrait to Inspect, Whisper and other common things that are normal in World of Warcraft. I have yet to discover how to enable free mouse look.
  3. Subscription - Teso subscription costs way more than World of Warcraft. I payed 979rub(~16$) for 1 month of Teso subscription, while WoW is only 549rub(~9,5$). People gonna use whatever is cheaper, it is a common thing unless this game is for rich people only^^. Just lower the sub costs and more people gonna try out your game.

Well, this looks like only things that come into my mind at the moment. I returned 2 days ago and gonna try it for at least a month, then who knows.

TL;DR - This isn't the same game as WoW and he's upset about that.

Also, dude you don't have to subscribe to play the game... It's a plus membership that gives a few extra bonuses. 4 man content is meh but try some trials, people will talk and plan and follow mechanics during those.
i do not read replies. still playing stamdk for some reason.

i dunno, i've found combat to be a lot better than my time in WoW. Characters are or at least -feel- more mobile and there's a higher skill ceiling.

And on a more serious note, I'll address your concerns:

    1. Where's the CC? You'll find it when you're running vet content with a decent tank. You don't need to CC anything in normal dungeons -- just pull and burn for fast random normal XP. Also, ESO's active combat is WAY better than the tab-target-auto-attack-micro-manage-30-skills traditional combat of MMOs like WoW.

    2. You'll see social interaction in guilds, zone chat, and in harder dungeons/trials. If you're expecting communication in something like normal Fungal Grotto 1, then you're expecting too much.

    3. Yeah, I'll give you that. ESO's UI sometimes leaves a bit to be desired.

    4. You HAVE to sub to play WoW. You DON'T have to sub to play ESO. I'd say that's a win for ESO right there...

Lol, because standing in one place tab-targeting and pushing 12 buttons is better? I love the action-paced combat in ESO. I don't need to worry about Dodge chance and evade chance stats. If I have the stamina, I have an almost 100% chance to dodge/evade attacks.

Also, screw this type of rotation:

Did you list combat as a con? I played WoW from Vanilla to Cata and ESO's combat takes a big steaming pile on WoW's combat. But hey, opinions are what they are... Live long and prosper.

WoW uses targetting and what's basically an isometric camera. There is no action to the combat. You just stand still spamming abilities.

Social interraction- In dungeon groups there were no talking at all, but maybe I am not that lucky. I can not even press friendly player portrait to Inspect, Whisper and other common things that are normal in World of Warcraft. I have yet to discover how to enable free mouse look.

You don't need to communicate in most dungeons. They are extremely easy. You communicate in vet DLC dungeons and raids.

Subscription - Teso subscription costs way more than World of Warcraft. I payed 979rub(~16$) for 1 month of Teso subscription, while WoW is only 549rub(~9,5$). The subscription in ESO is optional... And with that, I'm convinced this is a troll post.

WOW is so out dated . The people playing it are there out of love and history of their game . It does not attract many new players anymore . They needed to reduce the subscription there to take a little of the sting away from their loyal followers moving away .

Having played wow for 700+ days, actual play time over 12+ ish years, I prefer TESO. CC in wow pve? Honestly it is super rare. Its a much more massive dps race in WoW. CC only came into play in high end circumstances. In TESO tanks do plenty of control on mobs movement and damage.

ESO sub is cheaper than wow because it is not required. Bad comparison really. Not to mention, $15 a month does not mean 'rich people only'. Skip a cup of coffee a few times a month. Buy store brand. If you are really pinching pennies to game, you have more pressing issues

How exactly does your inability to find out how things work translate into "the game sucks"?

    - Whisper other players? Check
    - Free mouse look? Check
    - CC in dungeons? Check
    - AddOns being *player* made? Check

I also prefer ESO combat model over wow's.

I can't remember the last expansion of wow where CC was actually needed.
No communication ? LOL..there's none in wow dungeons with the speed runs and no heals.

wow in the US costs $15/month same as ESO for me. And with my OPTIONAL ESO sub I get bonus xp, infinite craft bag and 1500 crowns per month to spend. What do you get with wow sub besides access to the server ?

    Sorry..ESO is my game now.

Warcraft is trash. A sub, with extra costing expacs that are heavily P2Progress, cosmetically monetized, P2Skip. Its ugly and a little boring too.

It is a game that should have died long ago and is a scourge to the MMO genre. Always used as a "But WoW did it." excuse.

Combat is actually the biggest PRO point in ESO (along with the very intuitive crafting system). No more spamming tab, to find your target, no more twisting hands into weird positions, no more using 4x12 action bars to keybind all the crap you need, blocking and dodging are no longer boring passive stats, but actually something that you do, and you no longer have to write macros that you have to adjust after every patch because they broke some functionality that you relied on.

Also, if you found the dungeons boring, try DLC vet dungeons. You can't faceroll those, and you do very much need a plan.

I do agree with you on one thing though... The trash could be made more dangerous and less numerous. But you know, trash is trash anyways, what matters are the bosses.

You may be thinking of Diablo. WoW does not use an isometric camera. You have the same freedom of camera movement in WoW that you do in ESO. You are also not planted during combat in WoW. You can move around just like in ESO. However, ESO's animation and collision detection is much better than WoW.

'free to play' for WoW is basically a myth. Only allows you to play very low level and you cant even log into high lvls you have. Only bonus is sub for ingame gold
