53CP as a Tank in a Vet Dungeon

Well, maybe it's just me and my bad build but I had to bail because the adds weren't staying off me. Yes, another player was max also, I guess maybe their dps should have been enough? So anyway it didn't work out. As I was leaving I noticed there was a vote to kick the CP53, but I was already on my timer out. So is there a way to get through vet ROM with a CP53 tank, max CP Heals & DPS and another DPS less then CP200? Next time maybe I can hang and get it done. Perhaps I'm just too impatient?

So, depending on the fight, the tank isn't going to keep control of all the adds. Generally, tanks try to taunt priority adds that can one-shot damage dealers and healers and then crowd control the rest. For example, on Falkreath Hold, I'll always taunt the Minotaurs, but most other adds I'll crowd control instead. Tanks don't have a multi-target taunt, so its much more efficient to taunt the priority adds and let the DDs deal with the rest.

However, its up to you and your group to determine whether or not the tank was doing a good job. Mechanics and priorities are very important for tanks in Vet DLC dungeons. So if the tank wasn't getting aggro from hard-hitting adds or crowd controlling the rest, then there will probably be problems with the dungeon mechanics. If the tank is doing that, but the damage dealers aren't doing enough damage to burn down the adds, there will also be problems with dungeon mechanics.

In general, its tough to generalize player skill by looking at their CP #, but with sufficient experience you can generally tell if the DPS, heals, and tanking are sufficient to complete the dungeon. If they aren't going to work out or you don't have the time to stick it through, there's nothing wrong with moving on.

A CP53 tank is going to get obliterated in mazzatun. He shouldnt even be running normal maz.

People need to stop queuing for dungeons they arent ready for. Tell him to get his arse to 160 and get some max level gear before trying endgame content.

Actually, how'd that Cp53 tank make it into vROM? It wasn't through the groupfinder, you can't queue for Vet DLC dungeons until CP 160 since Clockwork City (unless the Level-Up Advisor changed that).

So that means they chose to do vROM, probably for gear or pledges, which I assume means they either know what they are doing or were trying to learn because they had to deliberately choose to enter vROM. An interesting decision if they were actually struggling with it.

You can still physically enter the dungeon by traveling to it, you just can't queue for it through groupfinder.

LOL. A CP 53 tried to tank vROM? With one DPS under CP 200? What a nightmare. I would have noped on out of that group in a heartbeat.

yes you can still enter the dungeon by not going through dgn finder, that means they know what theyre doing since it looks like a pe-made group, but that will not make sense since the guy said they re already voting to kick the tank, why would they bring a cp53 tank on a vet dlc dungeon if they just going to kick him out of it, its just a disaster waiting to happen.

Why does anyone under 160 do vet dungeons?

You're a burden to the team usually, and the monster set, dungeon set is pointless below cp 160

Any vet dlc need real tank, meaning correct gear and skills slotted, cp doesn’t matter.
But I doubt cp53 would invest in the correct gear and correct skills, it must still be in full training random gear with random skills for levelling the skill line.
So kick if it doesn’t work out.

I Group Finder pugged nROM and one of the players was level 48 or so. (Random Normal) None of the four of us had been in there before. This was on the PC, so we didn't have voice chat, but we did have my abilities in web search and typing.

    We succeeded.

Well, DLCs unlock at 45, along with pledges. I just ran the nSC pledge on my freshly level 45 warden tank a couple hours ago. I think once you unlock vet dungeons at 50, you get ALL of them.

Also, pretty sure, you can't vote to kick in a premade group, you either kick them or you don't, but there's no voting involved.

Its not your build and also not your skills; with 50 or so cp you have almost no regen of resources and almost no extra resistance and you dont have maximum gear available. If youre good in tanking you will do most dungeons easily but some of the DLC vet dungeons will be VERY VERY HARD. Not impossible but not fun either. I recently did Bloodroot Forge veteran with a tank with 180 cp so with max gear. The tank was very skilled and managed to do the dungeon and earned a place in my friendslist but it was not easy to tank it and we wiped several times.

Again; it is not you it is the lack of patience or available time from the other players; doing a DLC veteran dungeon with a tank with 50 cp will probably take 2 hours instead of half hour expected, and only if all other players are very skilled

The issue is not the 53 cp, but the other likely factors. one being the person playing the 53 cp toon, probably only has 53cp worth of ESO playtime. if the guy has another account wih 1k cp, then the lack of real cp will be made up for with (more likely greater) skill. Same applies to gear, he may be twinked, but ultimtely it's unlikely he will be wearing perfect sets, and definately not gold gear. Again, made up with real time based experience, but that will only go so far. Then there are other things like this might even be their first pledge, anyone under cp160 has not completed all quests in all zones, which do provide valuable skill experience, learning how to survive solo being one.

At the end of the day, that toon in that dungeon would be a burden. It's up to the rest of the party if they feel they can carry the tank, or want a replacement. Me? I'd give the group a short chance, with a view to leaving before the first boss if there were any signs of difficulty. Any signs early on will be magnified at the final boss. All the DLC bosses are significantly harder than anything previously encountered in those dungeons, so it's likely you'd end up with non-completion.

On a side note, I witnessed a cp 278 tank boss vRoM. People initially wanted to kick him, but i was that guy refusing the vote. Surprised i wasn't kicked for standing my ground, but I'm assuming the tank kept me into.

Everyone deserves to stay for the first trash pull regardless. If you're going for HM no death speed run, pugging ain't the way to do it, so with that out of the way, we only had one wipe on the final boss.

I agree; i have the same policy i usually see what happens at first boss and then maybe theres a kick needed. I dont like to kick. I have less patience with people that say at beginning they know the dungeon and then it clearly shows they have no idea what the dungeon is about. Or with people that die constantly but dont react to any suggestion and just dont speak in chat.

I can enjoy a group with people that dont know the dungeon but are willing and able to learn. Sometimes I even enjoy that more than a <30 minutes speedrun with an elite group. I did a 2 hours run yesterday in vet Scalecaller with a group i really enjoyed; we wiped few times but it was clear that we were gonna make it and the new ones in the dungeon were learning and communicating

There are limits to what is possible; people that make mistakes and take advise will improve and that makes lots of things possible. people that underperform and dont take any advise or dont communicate are not fun to play with

That would be no different than if an ESO+ and a no-DLC non+ player were grouped and queued together. It's supposed to pick something both are eligible for.

But the queue works in mysterious ways. For example...

I was on an alt a couple of days ago just questing and leveling some skill lines and decided to queue for a quick purple daily run. I accidentally picked vet and immediately realized it so I quit the queue and picked normal. I had a ready check for a normal dungeon but someone declined and then I just clicked on whatever came up next without looking. It turned out to be vet VOM. No sweat. Did it anyway but it wasn't the quickie normal daily I was looking for.

So yeah, it appears that you can be in both, a vet and a normal queue at the same time when the tool glitches.

I am generally against kicking low CP players, because CP usually doesn't matter.
I have seen CP 200 players that kick ass, and I have seen CP 720 players that genuinely don't know which way is up.

    I will say this however:

Don't tank if you are low CP!

With all the nerfs tanking got in the last few years, it is extremely difficult to tank without a whole bunch of points into Shadow Ward, making 300 CP a minimum for tanks in veteran dungeons.

Usually, for non tanks I would say CP 160 is minimum for vet dungeons.

I used to queue for vet sub 160 by mistake. The game automatically has the random dungeon queue set for vet after you hit 50. I would queue up and take the group without realizing what I had done. Most of the time it was fine, but if there was ever a problem, like two wipes on a boss, I would leave without question. I was only voted out once at vet 120+, but was vet Maz, so I didn't mind.
