Just curious before I waste time on a possible build idea.

Yes, you trade cost reduction, penetration and regen for resistances, health and some stam sustain.

Generally speaking you're trading damage potential for survivability.

You can do it, and you can find success, but from what I have seen, Light Armour seems to be the go-to these days.

You can do it but you are gonna have to carefully manage your resources as you will find yourself run out a lot and resource drain glitch doesn't help much either. Light armor is better if you ask me. HA just is for if you wanna face tank a bit and block a bit longer and terrible magicka sustain unless you run regen stuffs. And desert rose sadly won't help much. I found that out hard way. Seducer still works.

im pretty sure with zaan you can go heavy and facetank to the moment you can drop block, cast and weave till zaan solves your damage problem.

I change between innate/bloodthorn/bloodspawn (Light high damage) and shackle/desert/valykn. (Heavy sustain build) 4x tristat, and running trifood/witchmothers. Damage comes from spell damage stone+all spell damage enchants. Aside from shackle maybe its pretty minmaxed. Heavy is OK, weaker than before, but has its uses in OW.

Best possible spread of sustain, damage and survival for current DK, 30k health, 15k mag, 37k mag. 3k buffed spell damage. Because battle roar+helping hands no longer scale, its not worth to just stack stam. More so regen. Health and mag are worth keeping high.

Magdk's can still do amazing in heavy with a good gear setup:

Here's my stats in a similar setup, but in light armor:

I had some epic fights in heavy today but sadly shadowplay continues to break almost all of my clips making them unusable ><

I'm debating doing an *** build of 5 Duroks/5 Shackle/2 Valkyn (i'd do Zaan if I had it)

Just run wizards riposte. You'll be tankier and have more damage.

about 10% crit and 4000k-ish penetration for 8% healing, easier 21k armor stack, and 10% more health.
Cost reduction/regen can come from sets easily but the stats above are harder to build for without giving up too much dmg/defense.

You could run fortified brass in 5 light armor and get the penetration and sustain buffs from light while having resists around 24k (or higher depending on race, sword & board, etc) with volatile armor active.

I think i'll need the extra magicka/stamina of Shackle

I could do 5 light but i'm not sure how survivable 5 Light/2 heavy with no Wizards would be on a Magicka DK.

light armor is very viable on magdks, when you go for a lot of blocking, because the damage mitigation from heavy gets more and more diminishing, when you have other sources of mitigation and blocking gives a lot.

I fought a sick mag DK yesterday, low CP, but played awesome - DocThor or so, he did run a very crazy build, promised not to share it though, but it was heavy armor^^ but he said he usually plays sorc, so..

I also think la mDk is very , very strong, and more importantly, fun to play.
