I get home from work and take a shower, grab a beer from the fridge and sit down at my computer. I log into ESO out of pure habit and once on my character screen, i sit there. I sit there, and I try to decide what i want to do that particular night. Before I know it I am dropped out for inactivity.

Nothing in this game really pulls me to play it like before.... idk if it's just time for a break or if the lack of substantial changes has me feeling bored.

If they release spell crafting in the next update, you will have plenty to do then.

I like to login, chug a dubious, go play battlegrounds for a couple of hours, then chow down on some blue food and run a bit of PVE stuff.

Gives me a nice time limit on doing things.

I kinda have am opposite issue. I get online each night after work and have so much I need to do that I'm overwhelmed. I can no longer keep up with running pledges on 5 characters every day, but I feel like they have to get done. At the same time, several of my characters still need 90% of the skyshards in the game, and I haven't even ever finished the morrowind, clockwork, or wrothgar story lines. I also usually start to do one of those many tasks and end up getting pulled into a trial for the rest of the night by my guild.

I have so much that remains unfinished on my characters and never enough time to do any of it.

You're probably burned out, a gaming illness that infects various people.
Try playing something else and/or ignore ESO for a while.
If you don't feel the need or are not willing to come back then you're done with ESO.
If the need to log into ESO comes into you, you just needed a cooldown from it.

It sounds like work is really draining you. I would not blame the video game. ;)

But to be serious...maybe just hit Enter once you're on the character screen and let your toon help inspire you to where it wants to go? I think if I tried to figure it out on the character select screen I might go idle too, but usually if I sign in and look at my inventory I am either reminded of what I wanted to do, or what I need to do on another toon. Just a suggestion, hope something helps. But I have also been so mentally drained by my day that it was hard to brain in a game, too. There's always just running around in a circle chatting. :D

Gotta do vet dlc dungeon for helm
Need something like 200ish Transmutation stones to change gear to impen, unless it happens to drop
Need gold for items/materials and doin daily crafting helps to get both
Debate making another toon so I can have both a Stam and mag Templar
Undaunted on some characters could use leveling
    Need TVs for more chests
Need more vouchers for my house and motifs
    Need more motifs period
Contemplating skins and or trial runs
Horses could use some food on some characters
Don't like how that character looks spend 30 min to an hour on a costume
End up spending 4 hours dueling and BGs
Contemplate grinding for BSW staff or Lich Staff - would open up so many more possibilities
Contemplate changing tank to PvP cuz it could be stamina

I may log out because of inactivity but it's because I can't decide what to start on first

I felt the same way back in early December, took a few months off to establish myself in Warframe, then came back. If you start feeling burnt out, go do something else for a while so the repetitive stuff doesn't drive you insane.

with 10 active characters there never seems like enough time to get everything done...

I've mostly pvp'd since I started playing, so, i'm just now starting to do quest lines on some of the DLC's...

in regards to prepping for logging on to eso:

well, when i was working the beer was a glass of red wine.

i retired nearly two years ago and played the game to death until morrowind hit pts. i played that for a bit and thought enough is enough. stopped playing. did other things until a couple of weeks ago... hey, it's fun again.

take a break mate... come back in a month or a year and try it again..... if it's fun it's good, if not there are plenty other fish in the sea.

edit to ad... if you are not enjoying it stop.

    it's just a game ffs.

If Optional Open World PvP existed, you wouldn't feel this way.

This game needs way more adrenaline! It needs the feeling that if you leave any city (that would be a protection zone) you could be killed by a cold blood *** assassin. And then you'll start to pay more attention to the envinronment, and by paying more attention, you get more immersive on gameplay. And by doing that, you know every travel or journey that you make, a new event may happen. This is what this game is missing.

While it is content that keeps an MMORPG going, it is who we play with that really keeps players into the game between content releases. Maybe find a different guild to find a group to run with.

    Revisit one of your favourites!

Just hope it doesn't look really crap now........

I did this very recently, infact within the last 4 weeks.

It was a single player game and I discovered how much I miss the "pause" button and the "save" function!!

Seriously though even a few days break can reinvigorate your enthusiasm. <3
