There is nothing that I want. Simple as. I am will only pay for things that I can actually play. Cosmetics mean nothing outside of what I can actually get in game, by playing said game.

    SWG.

Seriously. I had collectors goggles, a soro sub, Annakins ship, an under ground bunker, ATRT, mounts. All sorts of stuff. They weren’t even RNG but I can tell you they are all gone now.

I still like getting stuff every now and then for fun but it adds a lot of perspective when it comes to pixels in a video game

You want motivation? You saw the Star Wars Battlefront fiasco. Do you want that in ESO?

By buying crates you're perpetuating an RNG rewards system and gambling as a main form of revenue. One day we'll look back at how it used to be cool that you can earn cool mounts and hats by accomplishing stuff rather than throwing real money into a virtual slot machine.

But if that isn't enough reason, here's another: save up for some nice clothes instead, go out and get laid.

I dont buy crowns, i spend $15 a month on ESO+ and thats it. Im going on vacation in 8 weeks for a month. Then im going on another vacation for a week the end of summer. In between, i will have a few "weekenders". I wont think of you frantically opening a bunch of crown crates trying to get some pixels in 9 weeks while im sipping a margarita on a white sand beach. Any questions?

Make sure the crates, and potential "rewards", are not a replacement for something else. Some just like to collect, support the game, etc., but some make purchases (these included) to try to get a little bit of happy when they are depressed. Yes, it can happen without realizing it, unless you look close at what you do and why.

I used to buy things that I thought would make me happy...And they did for a short while, but it would never last long. I still go for the free crates, and did buy some around Halloween, but I've learned over the years to think about purchases a bit before making them. It saves money. My recent purchase of the sanctuary home was thought out well in advance, and done with crowns gifted to me during the last sale.

Nothing I really want is in the boxes... Maybe if they put some exclusive furnishing there... xD

Missed the Vivec's furnishings pack. Probably would have spent a couple of $$ for a chance to get that Pool of Divination from a crate

Gaming used to be a past time where you pay your money and get 100% of the game, then we had DLC and that added another 50% to the game, then we had you would only really get 50% of the game with the remaining 50% as DLC. Now we have you getting like 25% with another 50% as DLC and the remaining 25% as microtransactions and lootboxes.

Honestly doubt i'll be keeping up with ESO after the new chapter. Far too desperate to get in my wallet every 5 minutes. Its embarrassing. At least homeless folk have a bit of dignity when they ask for your money.

If you want to justify not spending the money on new mounts just think about your current mount looking up at your character and saying

"what did I do to make you want to replace me, was I not a good mount" and then it starts crying :'(

See now you feel better for not buying a new mount because your old mount dose not have to go thought the pain of rejection B)

Self-discipline. ZOS doesn't care if you can't pay your bills because you bought too many of their pixels. You need to care. Don't wait until it's too late, and you're being evicted, or losing your car. it might be extreme, but it happens to people who don't recognize that they are addicted to buying this junk until it's too late. If you really consider it, it's not any different from being an alcoholic or addict.

I can afford to buy a lot of crates if I chose too. I don't buy any because to me, it's no better than flushing that money down the toilet. Who cares if someone sits around a wayshrine preening on their crap crate mount. While they sit there hoping somebody thinks they're cool, I'm running content.

Your ability to spend too much money on pixels doesn't impress me. Your ability to tank, heal, or dps is what impresses me...and you can't get any of that from a crap crate. The day that happens will be the day you won't find me anywhere near ESO.

I do believe in supporting the game, so I subscribe, and buy crowns during sales. If ZOS puts something worth my crowns for direct buy in the store, I'll spend my crowns. If not, my crowns sit and I save money by not having to buy as many.

I will not buy crown crates with you today.

Umm... Don't buy crates. Or if you're absolutely set on buying crates, just buy 1500 Crowns worth and be done with it. It will get you a fair bit of Crown Gems and pair that with those you get from the free crates and you'll be able to get yourself whatever you want from Crates in no time.

For me, I dislike it so much that I don't even open the free ones. I don't want to advertise anything that's gambling-box-exclusive whatsover.

I don't quite understand the reasoning behind this type of behaviour. I know there are people similar to you, but can you perhaps explain?

Being a free gift, it stops being gambling entirely. Gambling only holds up if you are to invest some form of currency (be it real money or an in-game gold sink), and killing npcs to receive crates isn't quite what I consider investing currency. So what stops you from opening free crates? You can still hold up to your principles, be the better man/woman and essentially 'exploit' the loop in the system by still acquiring sought after cosmetics without falling for their scheme and being dragged into purchasing them. Or do you feel as though opening the free ones will push you over the edge to spend money on more of them, doing exactly what ZOS wants you to do?

I'm not interested in cosmetics so I don't buy crates or "limited time, exclusive" offers from the crown store. My subscription allowance has only bought character slots and other utilities and I will also buy 1-2 houses when I decide to so to not spend in game currency on them. I do have the money to buy crown packs, just I don't see the point in doing it, just to further spend them on items that are utterly worthless to me. I'm very stingy both IRL and in game :)

I got the Ebon dwarven senche super special mount in one pack of 15 crates. It was my birthday and I splurged. Lol
But there is no way I'm going to buy hundreds of these things. Seen way too many videos of people trying for them and only getting a pile of gems for their trouble.

Um. My 'secret' is that I look at the stuff in the crate and think "wow, I don't care about any of this crap." Not sure that'll help you. Sorry. :#

I broke the habit by doing it once. Well twice if you count the fact that the gf and I did it together. Instead of just buying a couple here and a couple there, we sat down picked out what we wanted and spent until we had it. We both picked high tier mounts. And we both spent until we had it. No neither of us got the mount to drop for us, so we ended up spending until we had the gems. Something that is not possible on all the mounts now.

All said and done I think we both spent around 150 dollars each to get the mount we wanted. That was enough for me to say never again. I will buy the stuff in the store I can purchase directly for a price I think is fair. But I will not spend 150 dollars for a sparkle horse. Again... yeah I feel bad I have to put that again on there...
