✭✭✭✭✭I'm pretty sure that most of us who make an effort not to buy also love shiny things (I sure do!) but so object to the method of acquisition that we just can't bring ourselves to participate. For me, I dislike it so much that I don't even open the free ones. I don't want to advertise anything that's gambling-box-exclusive whatsover.
Now what will work for you? Idk I'd hope the fiscal responsibility would be enough. You could also think of it this way, though : when you buy the gambling boxes, you are not buying shiny things. You are buying a random assortment of silly consumables. The chance to get a shiny thing is just a nice bonus and not the main feature. If it were the main draw then I'm pretty sure ZOS would already be stepping into legally murky waters, let alone pending issues in various states and nations. So just buy into the lie a bit and see where that gets you. Do you really want to spend however much on a nonrefundable fiat currency just so you can buy a few random consumables? It's more a question of justification, and balance. Allocate yourself a budget for this hobby (which is actually very cheap in hobby terms) and stick to it. Just ignore fancy pixels you don't need if you don't have the budget. Or save up and get them, it's just basic life morals / balance / control.
And remember to buy all your crowns in the 50% off sale...then everything is half advertised price. And if you wait till objects are on sale, you get double discount!

Me too. Know someone in one of my guilds that blew nearly 400€ trying. And I got one in a freebie crate and I don't even like the durn things.
Not a big fan of the crates. In fact, I don't buy them anymore. I would rather spend my crowns on other stuff.

You still get to see them riding around and you don't get that pit in your stomach when you spend lots of cash and get nada. Somebody did an add on that recorded all of this. If I recall correctly, the percentage was actually the same per mount on the super apex as on the apex mounts. You just see a lot less of them because most apex mounts come from gems as you are less likely to get a mount first than 400 gems. There was a thread that compiled all crate seasons so far. I just don't remember where it is.
I am mostly pleased with the current state of ESO. Please do continue to ban cheaters though and you guys have to find out who is duping gold and how because the economy is currently non-functional.0 -

Online games bring all kinds of income levels together, some can afford to splurge all over the crown store and not think twice, others need to be more frugal. Buy what you can afford, if that means none, then that's what it means. ZoS doesn't care where the money comes from, the crown store is aimed at higher income brackets, or people flashing their credit cards, so look after yourself and don't sweat the pixel stuff. After realizing it's the same thing, only retextured I'd just make them in Skyrim instead (and make them better). I also seem to want to collect everything, clothes and mounts. (except camels, you can keep those) and I mean I don't even use them all!! and yet I have 4 characters and like 20 mounts. Whhhyy..

Because the thought of opening one annoys me when I consider that this kind of tactic has, and will continue, to degrade this game. It rewards the studio for doing the wrong thing.

duendology✭✭✭✭✭Technically, you do not own anything you buy in the game. You can't take it with you when you decide you don't feel like playing anymore. Everything stays on the server. Your mounts, houses, everything in the houses, so on so forth. EVERYTHING... and you can't do much with them. you can't even gift or trade them (collectibles, mainly) if you don't want them.
You assume that you will play the game forever and it will forever be on the servers. The amount of money you invested in the game, paradoxically, keep you going and playing. So you keep playing and new things appear in crates or in store.. and you buy more.
It is a vicious circle.
I like "shiny" eso things as much as anybody who enjoys this game... but, like with everything, I have certain dedicated budget I can allow myself spending on entertainment in general. Life priorities first... entertainment second.
