Should Crowns be able to be bought using in game Gold?

Have the option of buying 30 day+1500 crown token directly from the crown shop with gold in game like WoW has for tokens, and the price of the tokens will be 20$ each like WoW instead of 15 for those that want in game gold as a conversion to irl $, but leave everything on store bound besides Sub tokens.

No, because the exchange rate would have to be very high. Probably high enough that most players would not be able to afford the gold cost for the crowns (yes, believe it or not a VAST majority of ESO players are not gold rich).

So very few people would be using this system, and therefor not much would change which would render this completely moot.

Why are people stating it would increase bots?

If you allow people to buy crowns, and then sell these for gold, they become the middle man. (gold sellers) And in my opinion, this would only increase crown sales.

As far as I would guess, that would reduce the demand for illegitimate gold sellers? This is assuming the OP meant that a player would be able to sell their own bought crowns for gold.

on bots... why does ZOS not deal with these? Anybody been to CAMLORN ever? How many reports? If you look at the usernames, that alone could be criteria to examine the accounts.

    what does ZOS do?

Your question does not fully address the Crown System in relation to being purchased for gold. Without knowing your intent as to how Crowns would be handled, it is hard to fairly place a vote. Further you do not know how a voter is thinking who crowns would be handles as either status quo or changed.

If Crowns remain untradable then purchase for gold means there is a loss of revenue for which the currency was created. Zos would be the sole seller Crowns on both sides control both gold and real money costs. Doing this might as well have all items being able to be purchased with gold or crowns.

Change Crowns to tradable, then this preserves the intent to create Revenue for ZOS. It is then players that are placing the crowns for sell that they had acquired either by direct purchase or subscription, thus controlling the gold price by supply and demand.

I personally favor allowing Crowns to be tradable. I would rather see a player buying gold in this manner than to purchase through the blackmarket. It opens up the purchasing power to someone that has time to play but can not afford to pay Hard Cash. It preserves and increases revenue for ZOS as it diverts blackmarket sales to them, so they can continue to produce the game and hire more staff to deal with fixing the bugs/ producing content.

Crowns exist so zeni can make a bigger profit of the game and continue to make new content

Ofcourse it wouldnt be 1 gold for 1 crown, it would be a ton and it would cause less people to whine about crown store items being too expensive (imo they sorta are) and it would give gold a little more use, atleast for me I usually end up giving my gold away because I already have mostly everything I wanted.

And people are always gonna be buying crowns.

you give gold away? xD if i ever saw a lie then thats one

Most of the things you can buy on crown store you can trade/find in-game, only thing you have to buy is dlc and thats is only fair, zeni wouldt be able to sell dlc if fans just used gold

What would you even buy with crowns if you have that mutch gold on you?

And crowns also exist so hardcore fans can support the team even more or its used for those who dont have the time to grind for certain skins/styles because they are busy working in rl so they have the money to spend on crowns, so no just no not gonna happen mate

And the only ppl who whine about crown store are kids who dont earn cash and have to ask their mom for cash

There is literally not one thing from Crown store you can buy in game, except consumables, which are terrible anyway.

I would like some kind of way of obtaining crowns outside of buying them but not a straight gold for crowns exchange. I like daily log in rewards, crowns or crates could be included and it could get people buying them if they get lucky.

After all, you've saved Tamriel and multiple other areas, why not give some daily reward.

LOTRO had a great system were achievements would award you a small amount of crowns (5, 10, 15).
It certainly encouraged people to complete content :)

there were people who took the challenge to unlock the entire game only using in-game achieves.

I'm not sure about being able to buy Crowns with Gold, but I would support some limited achievement rewards granting low levels of Crowns.

On the other side of the equation, I do think you should be able to convert Crowns into Gold. Yes, it may inflate prices, but it would also be a safe and secure way to buy gold and probably kill off the overwhelming majority of gold sellers out there. I would rather see that money go to ZoS than any black market sellers out there.

The only reason cash-currency/in-game-currency exchanges work in Star Trek Online and Secret World Legends is because the in-game currency they work with is limited in how much you produce a day (Refined Dilithium and Marks Of Favor respectively).

Doing an exchange with Gold, when there are people in-game who struggle to get 50k and others who get millions a week? Total disaster.

disclaimer - I've no idea how Guild Wars does it, but if it's for an infinitely-farmable currency, I'd assume there's rampant inflation of the exchange rate that prices "average" players out of buying any cash currency.

Guild Wars 2 does let you buy gems (aka crowns) with gold. They make it work by making it a currency exchange - you can buy gems with gold but you can also buy gold with gems and the prices are determined by how many people are exchanging each way. Too many people buy gems and the price jumps up, which makes it prohibitively expensive, but also makes buying gold more desirable, so more people start doing that and bring the price of gems back down...and so on. (Although long-term more people have been buying gems so the price has gone up.)

There's also a fee - a bit of the gold/gems are lost when you exchange it which means you can't just keep flipping currency to make a profit (long-term you can, if you're able to time it right but it's very risky).

They also avoid the pay-to-win issue of buying gold by making it so there's nothing you can get with gold that allows you to 'win'. Sure you can buy all the materials needed to level up crafting, then craft yourself a set of BiS gear (and in that game crafted gear is as good as any other top tier gear), but that makes very little difference to how powerful you are, so it's pretty much a waste of money. (I'm sure people do it, but no one else cares if they do...unless someone gets the game, boosts their character to the max level, buys a set of ascended gear and then tries to join raids...then people care because they won't have a clue how to play and are going to be utterly useless.)

I'm generally ok with their system (and I have bought gems with gold and, much more rarely, bought gold with gems) but I do suspect it artificially pushes up the price of some items on the Trading Post.

I think it would be much harder to get a similar system working in this game. It's one of those things that needs to be planned for from day 1 so everything can be built to work with it. Just making it possible to buy crowns with gold would be very straight-forward and great for players (especially the hardcore traders with millions of gold to spare) but it would potentially lose ZOS a lot of money, and legalising gold buying without eliminating ways to break the game by doing it could be an even bigger problem.

I meant to vote yes because it would make zos have to focus on other aspects of the game other than filling the crown store up with garbage and having the minority fuel the game. Could be so much better without a crown store.

I've got an idea that would wreck ESO - forget crowns being bought with gold. PUT IN PLEX!!!!!!

For those who do not know, in EVE, one month of subscription time is stored on a token called Plex, which can be "ported" into the game and: traded in the marketplace, traded/given to someone else, stolen, looted from wrecks, destroyed outright, et cetera. Which leads to stuff like players farming in-game currency to buy game time (instead of spending real money), players spending real money to give themselves an in-game currency boost, every pirate, thug or bandit dreaming of ganking a ship carrying Plex (and it sometimes actually happens! except that sometimes the cargo gets destroyed in the battle, too...). And so on.

Just imagine what would happen if ZOS chose to Plexify ESO. Especially as there is no EVE-like "no real safe zone" PVP, nor a centralized (ish) marketplace UI for trading stuff between players.

Some of the best games (GW2, EvE and others) have ways to swap gold for "crown" items (where "crown" = payware currency). In EvE you can actually purchase subscriptions (PLEX) with in game gold (ISK). SWTOR lets people purchase "crown" items by paying in game currency to other players who bought the "crowns".

All it takes, as game designer, is to know what you are doing. Aaaand... this could be a problem, here ;)

Allow In-Game methods of earning small amounts of Crowns.

Some MMOs allow for Players to transfer Premium Currency to one another
Some allow you to earn very tiny amounts on a weekly basis

Either way, both good ideas to help those who were stupid enough to buy food that week make that bare minimum to get the perfect outfit for their Waifu, save up for a friend to buy your junk from you so you can feel like someone actually Wants to spend time with you, purchase a furnished house while you sit on your uncarpeted floor looking at your rig set up on bricks and ply board, or get a mostly shame-free crown crate set while being able to order out so you don't have to figure out how your oven works..

Well I would prefer them to do so, with a system like star trek onlines.
Pretty much another currency that can be farmed, and refined for a certain limit a day for each character.
Then an auction to basically purchase crowns or that currency by exchanging crowns for that currency.

I do want to see other options other then being forced to buy the crowns directly where we can get them in game too. It would be a good idea to have this option in place one they would be smart to do.

Well, I "technically" give gold away in my guilds. I'm in 2 trade guilds that have raffles every week. I normally donate around 30K gold between the 2 of them. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. If I do win the cash prize, that gold just ends up going right back into the raffle.

I almost said no, becasue then I'd feel obligated to farm even more gold, but honestly? yes. why? because if done well - everyone benefits.

allow me to explain. judging by the coments there is a good possibility that people don't understand how gold to RL money currency typicaly works. its not generated out of thin air. someone has to buy it first. and this is where "everyone benefits" comes in. there are people who are fairly well off in RL but either have no time, or inclination to make a lot of gold in game. with exchange, they will be able to just buy crowns and exchange them for gold other people in game have made and be able to buy those gold only things they might want - like lux or achievement vendor furnishings for example, or expensive gold jewelry from gold vendor.

meanwhile people who might not have as much disposable cash as they'd like to buy those shinies of crown store - will be able to exchange their in game gold for crowns to the people above. and buy the costume or mount they wanted after all.

and since for this system to work - SOMEONE has to buy crowns from ZoS first? they actualy end up selling more crowns that way and ALSO benefit. say what you will about Blizzard but they are no dummies. there is a reason why they added subscription tokens that can no also be traded in for store credit. more profit.

I think the idea of a 20$ Sub token that included 30 days + 1500 crowns for each token used that someone buys for others in game and allow them BoE so that the people in game have the choice of what they're worth, but limit it to like 2 tokens a month per account just in case of stolen credit cards etc.

Crowns fund the game. Players exploit for gold, or items thst can be liquidated for gold. do you want pkayers to exploit crowns? And have infinite advantages? Like race change/mount training, houses...
