Romantic Interest NPCs

Concerning the RPG part of MMORPG, what if the Writers provided a selection of Romanceable NPCs with new lines of Dialogue and even questlines that progress the relationship. A new game mechanic that allows the vestige to bond with an NPC, complete a personal story questline, and unlock special options such as making them a version of the Brotherhood Bequeather, or a special "Assistant" you can place in your house.

We already have lines of dialogue where the Vestige flirts, heavily, with Naryu. Thats a start.

I'd love to see it, doubt it would happen. We have 12 yr olds that play this game. They don't even want The Lusty Argonian Maid excerpts on the forums. When they said the game was mature, they should have kept it that way and made the parents account for their children playing it. And if I had to pick someone, it would be that rogue Jakarn. Ah yes, Steve Blum. Love that man, love that voice.

Romances are quite (very!) popular in SWTOR and it's an MMO so that's not necessarily a reason to discount it.

I'm neutral on this. Fine if they want to add it, no worries if they don't.

I don't see this as a positive approach in an MMO - people are getting more and more incapable to communicate with each other in a normal way and establish working relationships successfully and the game should support this increasing disability and make it even worse?- In a single-player game this can be fun - like in Fallout 4 Cait, Piper, Curie, Nick and so on are quite fleshed out companions, which have some story elements to add to the rest of the game and they add a moral compass, which lets them approve or disapprove of your behavior - this has been fun to play in Fallout 4 - but in an MMO?- Really?

Yes, really. SWTOR and it's done very well. BW does craft excellent stories and characters.

I was pretty amused the first time I noticed companions sending me in-game love emails in SWTOR. I think the companion system in general would be neat in ESO, including the combat aspect. It would definitely help for making housing feel more alive.

It's one of the things I do miss about that game. Some of the interactions (not just the mushy stuff) are hysterical and some are pretty dire.

I agree on the house aspect too. It was nice having NPCs scattered about; bartenders, the fellow who did nothing but sweep up. I think it would be a nice touch but hey, there are so many other things that need doing first so I'm not going to be holding my breath on this.

Unless, of course, all they want to do is ERP. Not everyone is into that and have spouses who would not be happy with that (not me, I'm divorced, but thinking of other people). Having NPCs who you can romance in SWTOR is nice.

    And again, le sigh Jakarn.

The issue is Zos would also need to create an entire system including divorce proceedings.

When the NPC marries someone then finds out they still live in their mother’s basement they’re gonna want to escape fast.

For the brief amounts of time I could play Fable, I tried that whole romance thing, and it was more effort than it was worth. In Fallout 4 and to an Extent, New Vegas, we had companions that would like or not like you based on actions taken in the game. It was not always "to my role" to keep them happy either. But at least we could reload a save if I messed something up.

If this was in the game, I don't think I would ever use it myself.

Now, if we could meet an NPC, set up some kind of relationship that did not need to maintained, and we could send them to our house that would be cool.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
