A new game mechanic that allows the vestige to bond with an NPC, complete a personal story questline, and unlock special options such as making them a version of the Brotherhood Bequeather, or a special "Assistant" you can place in your house.

We already have lines of dialogue where the Vestige flirts, heavily, with Naryu. Thats a start.

This is exactly what I need.

I get shot down in real life, why not get shot down in my video games too?

Romancing? that sounds like sexualized content, I dont think we would want to shove people into sexualized stereotypes of "partnership" and "marriage" and such.

Yes, let me marry Revus Demnevanni, Naryu Virian, Darien Gautier, Drake of Blades, Queen Ayrenn, and at least a half-dozen other NPC's I've got my eye on. And I'll share! Everyone else can marry them too! (But they are mine first, 'kay?) :p

Concerning the RPG part of MMORPG

Fable 2 had a great questline to firstly obtain and secondly keep an upkeep a romantic partner aka wife.

I'd love to see it, doubt it would happen. We have 12 yr olds that play this game. They don't even want The Lusty Argonian Maid excerpts on the forums. When they said the game was mature, they should have kept it that way and made the parents account for their children playing it. And if I had to pick someone, it would be that rogue Jakarn. Ah yes, Steve Blum. Love that man, love that voice.

Yeah, they should have kept it for 18 and over.

That way, adult players don't end up having to parent other people's kids, for a start.

I don’t even get my in game Mara married husband in my house. Heck it only puts us in the same instance 10% of the time lol.
Honestly If they introduce anything like this, then player to player marriages need to be buffed because experience buff on a ring is rubbish, marrying a player is vet hard mode by comparison. You have to get along, help the other, set goals prioritise. It’s tricky. It should have a greater reward for the effort. There is really no insentive as it is. We can’t even share a house, you can’t place them, 10% breaks up better sets, and events make it pointless, it’s only available when they are on and at 1200+ cp not really a concern. (An assistant would be better better)

If they add NPC marriage the player element goes out the window. It’s not that they shouldn’t, Its that if they add NPC marriage. it’s an MMORPG so player to player needs a bigger incentive than marriage to an NPC.
PS4 EU 1200+ cp - I enjoy RP, Housing, PVE and PVP

Ok, lets see pros and cons of Dating the most popular NPCs in ESO:

    Naryu Virian:
Pro: Hot sexy assassin gir, most likely pretty naughty in the bedroom. (You might have to be into rough stuff with her)
Cons: You might end up with a knife in your back if you talk to a female questgiver too long.

    Darien:
Pro: Loyal guy who will most likely treat you like a godess and fulfill your every wish
Con: Most likely a pretty boring lover behind all this hyper confident flirting.

    Razum-Dar:
Pros: Super fluffy, knows all the best event locations and can get you in every club.
Con: Sharp claws and spiky tongue will leave you looking like a scratchtoy after a night of passion. Cat hairs everywhere.

    Stibbons:
Pros: Loyal, will do all the housework and love it, always at your side.
Cons: Wont shut up about his ex, constantly kidnaped by horny Deadra.

join a guild and pick someone in there to romance instead. i am sure it will be more exciting than with an npc

No thank you please. Some of us have real life relationships- flirting with a player character is actually flirting with the person at the other end and that’s not on.

This thread makes me sad... They're not real people, they can't love you back! And coding an NPC to love you is some next level narcissism. Imagine if they were real people and had no choice in the matter, that's called an arranged marriage. A love not of their own volition is not worth having bc it's not love, it's ownership. I may be getting carried away but it's not this particular idea I dislike but this is not a Mindset that should be facilitated in anticipation of AI's becoming common in the future. Whether they are human or not, a being that has achieved sentience, that can think and feel their own thoughts and emotions should not be subject to subjugation. The rule of love is that it starts and ends with Consent.

Oh, I've seen all the Westworlds and Futureworlds, movies, old and new series alike (it's one of my favorite franchises), and I still would love to have Mass Effect/Dragon Age/SWTOR-like romances in ESO. None of those felt forced to me, and I didn't feel I abused those NPCs, as scripted they may have been.

A game that actually made me feel bad for the (pretty basic, but still) AI was Rogue Spear (1999).

Not sure if you remember the game mechanics - you selected NPCs for your group, then split up the group and assigned tactical goals/routes to the teams. You could have let your teams do everything according to plan while you as the player just sat there and watched them being gunned down. But you also could take over NPCs and thus play along.

Now I didn't want to lose my team members, so I usually started the mission, 'possessed' the team leaders to stop and park them and the teams in some corner, then 'possessed' the NPC best suited to solo the mission, and, well, soloed it.
At first I was mildly irritated by the behavior of 'de-possessed' NPCs I didn't park somewhere ... because after I left them, they looked totally disoriented for a few moments before taking in their surroundings and then continuing on whatever mission they had originally been assigned. As if they had just woken from a bad dream and asked themselves how they had arrived at the place they were at...
Then I saw the movie "The 13th Floor" (also 1999) and actually felt bad about possessing the Rogue Spear operators xD.

    PC EU.

I don't see this as a positive approach in an MMO - people are getting more and more incapable to communicate with each other in a normal way and establish working relationships successfully and the game should support this increasing disability and make it even worse?- In a single-player game this can be fun - like in Fallout 4 Cait, Piper, Curie, Nick and so on are quite fleshed out companions, which have some story elements to add to the rest of the game and they add a moral compass, which lets them approve or disapprove of your behavior - this has been fun to play in Fallout 4 - but in an MMO?- Really?

Yes, that's why SWTOR's (an mmo O:) romance system is so popular and well known and even more well done.

It's proof such a system has worked and can work, so yes, really.
