It's a global rule that containers can't be banked or stacked in your personal inventory.
I don't know if they can make an exception to that rule. So if they intended for them to behave differently, they'd probably have to create a new category of item.
As double crystal capacity was included as an ESO+ perk, the cap isn't getting removed.
The crystal cap is absurd and downright player-hostile. If people really wanted to have more than 200 crystals, they just need to hoard geodes. I have a few hundred crystals just sitting in my mail, in the form of end-of-campaign geodes. All it does is add the inconvenience of inventory management to people who want to have crystals saved up.
In any case, when transmutation first appeared on the PTS, the devs intended for geodes to be stackable. And they were horribly broken--stacked geodes would not open properly. Their fix for that problem was to disable geode stacking, which suggests to me that making geodes stackable would've required some major rework of some of the underlying code, which is what forced them to take the easier route of just disabling stacking.
I just have a DC mule I don’t play. At least he serves a good purpose holding everything I don’t want to bank or use.
