...that the only thing I feel in anticipation of the new leveling and appearance system is that I shouldn't look forward to them at all, that ZOS is going to take yet another good idea and turn it into yet another shove at the market and, much like housing, it'll be celebrated and paraded around like it's just fantastic when, in actuality, it isn't at all.

Remember when it wasn't a catastrophic mistake to get excited about new game stuff? I wish those days would return.

Why do you think so? Seems like it's pretty decent system. Really though it's question of gold costs for each style that we need to judge.

its an decent system but I would prefer traditional transmorg there you change an item to look like an item you already know.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Been playing MMO's since UO, Played: CoH's, DAoC, Wow, RIFT, Neverwinter, Champions Online, DCUO, Archage, SWTOR, SW:G, Star Trek, BD:O and FXlV.

This system rivals all the costume systems ive seen with the exception of CoH's because that costume system had millions of combinations and you could have 10 costumes per character.

It's not even on PTS yet, and from what they've said outfitting sounds extremely player and gold-friendly. I'm certainly looking forward to it.

The leveling thing is only once per account, so it's not like Crown Crates will be dropping from the sky for those with the crowns to get a ton of character slots, either.

Cool. So a lot like swtor... only here you use the motifs and swtor used the actual equipment. And you could unlock extras with gold in swtor. Both have good and bad points.

It's not as good as the LOTRO system, although it's very close.

In LOTRO you can drop an item into a gear slot to make the outfit, so any item in the game, including cosmetic items, could be used.
What we're getting is very close to that, it's just limited to what motif's you know.

So if you really like the kenna shoulder the only way you can make it part of your costume is to equip it.

Agreed. As much as loot crates annoy me anywhere, atleast here they haven’t started splitting up the costumes into seperate parts to pad out the loot boxes even more. Well yet anyway. I imagine it won’t be long before players are asking for costumes to be seperate parts so they can customize with just parts of it. It is all down hill from there. I wouldn’t mind being able to buy the crown stuff in the AH here though.

Anyway thanks for answering I didn’t see the stream.

@Chadak - please wait until it is released and you have had a chance to properly try it before going negative.

Maybe it is time to go do something else for a bit, sounds like you are a bit close to it all at the moment and more over getting yourself worked up rather than the outfit system itself.

Try not reading the forum for 2 weeks. I find this forum can burn you out of enjoying the actual game if you are not careful.

Yeah. Can't imagine why anyone would feel a pang of dread about 'Amazing New Things™' coming down the pipe.

It'll be totes amazing. They couldn't possibly screw anything up. The long-awaited and highly anticipated ability to customize gear appearances has a 100% chance of being the best thing ever.

Just like everything else ZOS does.

    in what world???

    1. its limited to crafted motifs only. other games are not.
    2. you have to create a stamp rather then be able to change individual pieces.
    3. the one thing it has that is on par with swtor is that the weight of armor doesn't matter for transmog, however in swtor - you can unlock extra outfit slots with credits, rather then cartel coins (crowns) and if you use cartel coins, you have an option to unlock an extra outfit slot for every character on that account. across all servers. not just per character.
    4. but the weapons! you say? aside from the fact that we don't know exactly how this system will work for people who use more then one weapon set, or how it works with existing costumes (we know costumes override outfits, but does this mean they also override changes to weapons?) and in swtor at least because stats are separate from armor and weapon shells, you can already use custom weapon looks without needing outfit slot for it
    5. multiple games have an option of either using costume or outfit. that includes, off the top of my head - Neverwinter and guild wars 2 and apparently Rift. and none of them limit you to crafted appearances only.

ESO is far from the best system on the market. its not as terrible as I originally thought, but the best? not. even. remotely. that you can only buy extra outfit slots with crowns? makes it worse then the game with otherwise one of the worst monetization systems on the market - swtor.

here is what can make this system better.

    1. allow to use non craftable looks in appearance slots, as long as you are in possession of them - bind them in a process, but let them be used.
    2. allow us to change appearance of full compliment of all the possible weapons within a single outfit stamp, so that if you change between sets - your outfit can adopt to it.
    3. and this one is particularly important - ALLOW US TO BUY EXTRA OUTFIT SLOTS WITH GOLD. make crown purchase apply to all the characters on a single server, since this game doesn't have genuine account wide unlocks, but that is how you make a crown purchase more appealing without coming across like you are nickle and diming. NOT making it the only way to get extra slots.

while all of the above still works of outfit stamps rather then letting us play around with individual pieces at least above suggestions will provide actual, genuine flexibility

3 crown crates. one of the new storage container collectibles, that you otherwise would have to buy with crowns, writ vouchers or tel var stones. a horse may be basic, but its still a 10k horse. gold. crafting mats. and that's just the stuff that has been confirmed.

I expect game developers to make game systems because they believe those systems will be the most fun for their players.

They haven't been allowed to do that in the gaming industry in a very long time, and that makes me somewhat sad.
