The Outfit System is just another Gold Sink(updated)

I should've known there'd be a catch. They can't give us something we really want without putting in a way to make us work for it.
You will have access to one unique outfit that you can customize using gold, but you will also be able to acquire Outfit Change Tokens and additional Outfit Slots from the Crown Store, allowing you to have a variety of outfits ready to go at a moment's notice.

So basically, everyone who's been playing the ESO economy and have millions because of that have absolutely no need to fret. Those of us who don't, and scrape by with whatever gold we come across are gonna feel the pain, and will resort to spending Crowns. Wonderful.

I now know from you guys the actual amounts ZOS gave in their Livestream, which alleviates my prior assumptions that were made before that information was released by the Devs. Disregard my initial opinion. With the price of changing a separate piece being anywhere from 100g to 2k, it's incredibly affordable and doesn't count as much of a gold sink.

or pay for crowns, tbh i didnt expect any less considering its a pure cosmetic feature and zeni seems to milk that aspect hard

Gold Sink is fine by me. The game actually needs more of them.

Costuming is a Crown sink, which is significantly worse.

ZoS making revenue off of cosmetics in the crown store is completely legitimate revenue and nobody should be surprised. And I don't say that lightly as a longtime critic of ZoS terrible track record: Mount upgrades & crown crates are still total slimeball scams, for example.

Part of playing an MMO is earning an income. It's actually really easy in ESO. If you don't want to be a trader, adventure for valuable items to sell or harvest. One way or another, you just need to put the time in.

Yeah the gold sink part is fine, that's what it was on WoW that's what a healthy MMO economy needs to combat inflation. However, I'm wondering if it's going to be one outfit per character unless you unlock more, or one outfit per account unless you unlock more. THAT is what worries me.

Why is this a bad thing? If there were no gold sinks you'd have nothing to do with gold.

I mean I'm far from rich, I'm still saving up to get the last 2 horses and some more bank and bag tabs and I've only bought 1 house. I can't be bothered with trade guilds so I get most of my money from stealing - about 3k a day is good for me.

But like I said, without gold sinks what would you do with your gold? Once I've got those horses and enough storage space I genuinely don't know what I want to do with mine. Because I'm a casual player I'm fine with using dropped or crafted equipment and I don't chase the meta-game so I don't need to change my build every 5 minutes. I'm sure I'll find another use for it, but I don't know what that will be.

(Also housing added a massive gold sink. I'm pretty sure literally millions of gold vanished from the economy overnight. And it actually worked out well for me because instead of stuff in guild traders being priced for people sitting on millions of spare gold they had no use for it was suddenly priced for people trying to save enough to fully furnish their house - which meant I could actually think about buying stuff from them instead of it all costing way more than I could ever afford.)

Shame on company that tries make money to pay for a game I’ve never heard of this concept before shame on them offering this game as a buy to play so don’t have to pay a sub. Well those that sub who don’t spend their crowns will have something to spend the crowns on

I'm sitting on 5m gold since this April when I started this game. Another 5m in materials, consumables, never sold items. Not interested in housing, nor crafting, nor motifs. Finally with these 2 new systems Outfit and House storage I will have a reason to invest in both of them. This update is very welcomed, actually can't wait this year updates. ESO is growing rapidly.

Most transmog systems have some "cost" to stop people from doing it every single second. Often times it's a pittance, so I think worrying about the good cost now may be a bit premature.

As to additional outfit slots in the crown store, no real surprise their and this is fairly par for the course in many games where you can have more than one transmog slot. Therefore I'm not too worried and kind of excited for it!

Some will find value in it even if others do not. You dont have to go out and buy a new BMW every time you see a commercial. I wont spend any money on it since I dont play this game for that aspect.

The only thing I don't understand why they have to make rarer styles more expensive to use as an outfit. You are already paying more because the motifs are more expensive, and nobody will be able to tell the difference between an outfit and an actual item, so you can't "show off" either.
Why do I have to pay double for using e.g. Telvanni over Altmer? Seems arbitrary.

Why do I have to pay double for using e.g. Telvanni over Altmer? Seems arbitrary.

The gold cost is fair for the basic motifs, but it is a bit too high for the rare motifs. 2k per item is 8 slots for a staff wielder, since the last 3 are jewelry. That's 16k to change an entire outfit, and you may have 2-3 outfits or even more, so that's 16k for every one of them. That's as much as it costs to change all skill points, and more than it takes to reset the CP points, which I imagine you'll be doing a lot less than changing your outfit.

And even more baffling, they didn't include the cost of style mats in this. Style/motif mats - arguably already losing value fast - are now going to be complete junk items.

Instead they should have kept the gold cost to a maximum of 1k per item slot, and added in a style/motif stone cost of 1 per item instead. Then we'd have a gold sink as well as a style mat sink, and the dispararity between common and rare motif in terms of gold cost wouldn't have been so significant.

It's actually pretty cheap, do two vAA runs and you can get a full outfit in an hour at 2k per item, including weapons for both bars.

Well there's a crown store option if gold is THAT much of an issue. Personally, I prefer to pay gold. Didn't they say 2k gold for expensive style or something? That's nothing. Would make it like 16k per full outfit.

You didn't honestly expect them to make it for free, did you?

Oh no, not gold, the free in-game currency you can earn doing basically anything in-game. How ever can one be expected to participate in a cosmetic feature when gold is involved? :/

Gosh I hope this is satirical. Aren't weapon dying and make-your-own-costume the most requested cosmetic features? And now that they're coming, it's not good enough because it's not 100% instant and cost-free?

If you really are just barely making enough gold to exist, perhaps a gold-sink with a reward that interests you is a good thing. It might encourage you to try some things in-game to make the gold, haha.
