Is Transmog coming next year the solution to armor design issues?

Seriously i get so bummed whenever i get and put on a good set only to see gaudy elbow and knee pads that float off your limbs. Farmed Darkshade for Automaton, put on either the bracers or boots, both have floating pads. But since now were actually getting Transmog in a couple months, there will be no need for the dev team to go back and correct all the affected armor styles, cause we can just change the style ourselves instead to a style that doesnt have those issues.

So...guess they're fixing the floating issues one way or another?

Hope this Transmog system isnt costly somehow.

Armor / weapon style change is one thing that comment might mean.

It might also just mean that they're letting everyone dye costumes instead of just ESO plus.

I've always assumed that ESO's curious lack of this system and the head and shoulder uber pieces from vet dungeons was a way to force players to wear costumes to not look ridiculous, and then into subscribing in order to dye them decently. And costumes would be better for pvp optimization than 7 individual armour pieces each with 3 dye channels.

But I suspect that plan didn't work.

Transmog will let you change style on gear so you can change an set into any crafted style.
Hopefully we will also be able to use other armor weights and lower level gear to.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

So long as I can transmog those god awful looking monster sets, it will be successful.

If that's not an option, IDGAF about transmog and will continue hiding my character in costumes.

My guess is that it will involve some sort of grind, like the trait crystals. There is no way on earth that it will be as simple as a dye station. It will be another system to get people to spend hours upon hours of gaming.

Yes, I've seen that datamined chunk before, it's just that your claims aren't supported by it. I mean maybe the official name will be OUTFIT, it's not like it's a bad name, but that's just a bunch of code snippets, the method tags aren't necessarily indicative of the system name, and could simply be a subsystem or a convenient working handle for the dev team. There is definitely nothing in there about motifs or costume creation.

This is not to say I think what you're proposing is a bad system, I actually like the idea a lot, minus the costume creation. I would prefer it to be more piece-by-piece so that we don't have to worry about storing a bunch of accessory data. Like how we can switch our hair, facial accessories, and body markings independently without making a combined "body style".

I just think it's completely irresponsible to make claims about how it is actually going to work given that we don't really know anything from the data mining, and given that the community managers have repeatedly reminded us that datamined information is not necessarily indicative of the final product. I mean what if you make these bold claims and people start buying up motif pages on all their characters, only to find out that it's account-wide? Or that it has nothing to do with motif knowledge at all? What if I were to suggest that you need to unlock these styles using "Style Stones", causing people to go out and buy a bunch of those up? I mean heck, that's even close to what's mentioned in the datamined code! It would still be irresponsible to claim that it's definitely how it's going to work, though, because at the end of the day we truly don't know.

Yes, I know, and I said up there: "The name of the POSSIBLE SYSTEM". I could have said: "The possible name of the possible system". That is, it's all a possibility! Nothing confirmed! By the way, I didn't say that ZOS had confirmed.

About the system... I liked the idea of Costume-making. Obviously they will not create a "Costume-making" like "Oh, you must use all the pieces of Imperial motif.". No! What I expect is:

I want to create a "Costume", or "Outfit", with the following Motif pages: Ancient Elf (Head), Daggerfall Covenant (Shoulders), Ebonshadow (Chest), Ebony (Waist), Celestial (Hands), Ebony (Legs) etc. If my "Head" Law of Julianos Set is Light, then the Ancient Elf motif (in Head) will be the Light version.

That's how I expect it at least.

The problem with "costume-making" is that you're unnecessarily storing more data than is necessary and making the potential system much clumsier than it needs to be. I am assuming, of course, that you are talking about creating a costume that you would then have to select from your costumes tab of the Collections UI. If you are actually talking about a more piece-by-piece system then my apologies. I also wouldn't want to be limited to the underlying armor weight. I'd want to have full control, meaning looking like I was wearing all heavy even if I'm in all light, since this is already achievable with existing costumes. Other than that yeah I pretty much agree that's how I'd like the system to be.

Call me crazy because I know this isn't the popular opinion. But... I don't really want transmorg in ESO. I feel that it would take away from the game and make having certain pieces of armor not special anymore if everyone is running around wearing the coolest looking armor. IDK maybe it is just me.

Even if some styles are more "good looking" than others, the coolest looking is entirely relative to the player. My characters are wearing Dark Brotherhood legs and Minotaur for the feet and hands, cause I love em. And as far as I've seen, It's been really rare for me to see others wearing the same styles.

I doubt if we get this system the game will just be flooded with everyone wearing the same exact things. In fact, it's already like that what with everyone wanting to wear the same Meta gear. Do you realize just how many people walk around in Daedric gear and two piece Skoria?

    Totally agree with @ArchMikem ...

Every player is unique and has a different view on what looks awesome.

My level 37 bosmer stam warden is super charming in her 5x medium apostle axiom + 5x ravager + 1x kena (pictured below).

But, there are a lot of players that like "dark" looking characters, too ...

Sorry if my words are short. I don't speak fluent english. Anyway... Yes, I'm talking about Collections UI! Look at the data mining image, on the first line.: "Collectible Category: Outfit Style". Because it's an appearance system, the Outfit Style system will probably be in "Collections > Appearance". I call it "Costume-making" because it reminds me. The difference is that the Costumes are made by Zenimax. Yes, it will probably be a piece-by-piece system. It's the most logical thing! I mean, that's what I expect! Data mining doesnt specify this. About you wearing full light armor, and your appearance being heavy, I don't think that's possible. If you create a Dark Brotherhood Medium Gloves, the Motif's appearance will be that of the medium version. Right?

If Zenimax is reading this, based on the data ming, I expect the following:
    • Is Costume-making real? I liked! I don't like the idea of having to transfer all the gear (from all my chars) to the crafter, so he can change the styles. So yes! I liked the idea of creating a Costume (or Outfit Style), giving it a name and "save" so that another character can use it.
    • Is there an initial limit to how many Outfit Styles I can create? Initially and for free, I want to create at least 10! "8" because of the initial amount of characters I can create, plus "2" for tank and healer builds. Then 10 is the minimum!
    • No grind. Motif grind is enough (and expensive)!
    • Set the style piece-by-piece (head, shoulders, chest, gloves, legs, waist, feet, weapons etc)
That's it for now. As soon as they release the official patch note, I will have a better opinion.

Oh your english is fine, I actually thought you were a fluent speaker, I just think there's still a slight miscommunication. We can make it work, though!

Basically, I am saying that instead of making a costume, each slot should be alterable independently of the others. So if you only want to change your helmet, you don't need to make a whole new costume with just the helmet changed, you merely change the helmet on your "outfit". As long as knowing a motif page on one character unlocked it for the whole account, then this also means your other characters could benefit from it. No costume or extra data needed!

As for armor weight, I do think it's possible as we already have ways to do this. For instance, several disguises and costumes are just existing armor, and it doesn't matter what your actual gear type is underneath. You can wear the Militant Ordinator costume and actually be running around in medium armor, for instance. All that would be required is for the "outfit" system to have the armor weight as an additional option to your motif selection.
