How long does it takes to reach CP CAP

A lot less time than I thought.

I'm doing a bit of it myself at the moment, started the XP event at 435 and hoping to finish at 600.

Took me around a year, because I was questing and just going at my pace. I guess if I would have grinded it would have taken way less, but who enjoys that grind? lol

Pretty much all my guildies are at max cp and all we have in common is that we log in almost every day and have been playing for more than 1 year

i started playing this spring and play really casually, often only on the weekends, and i have 10 characters now all lvl 50 at 650 cp and might reach 690 until end of year....so i guess for a casual player - depending on how many characters - a year might be a good ballpark number?

Same for me, note that the enlightenment help a lot, think most of my xp has been from enlightenment up to this event.
Got a bit during the jester festival after returning, Anniversary was about getting gold not xp
Witchmother was mostly getting alts to level 50.

When I first started on PS4 it took me forever to get to 718cp at least 2 years , moved to Xbox and 5 months in and I'm cp553, and by the end of the event I'll be 600cp, helps having 5 toons for the random dailies,

Playing since Feb2017, I reached CP690 yesterday.

Played since release on Xbox I have 8 maxed toons I have a main PVE/Crafter around 6000 hours on it and a main PVP toon with around 1500 hours on it. Just a little over 1000CP still no where near CP cap

I would only suggest grinding to 50 and then to CP160 so you can get top level gear, then simply play normally. In 2-3 months you'll be at 600+ for sure.

I started early access, 3/30/14... Hit Vet 16 with I.C. release, 8/31/15, Sooooooo..
I took a year and a half to reach max level, or what was max at time..Lol...
Yea, I was slow. But I enjoyed just exploring, reading, listening, and just taking my time.
My guild even celebrated that I made max level cause it took me so long!

To each his own.Some players just like to grind content as fast as they can. I prefer to keep grinding to the bedroom and play ESO at a casual rate as to learn and enjoy all it has to offer.
To often I see CP690's run around but have no idea how to actually play. The writers and artists put together a very rich and full world with ESO... I say "stop and smell the roses", but that's just me...Huzzah!

As an aside, does anybody know how much experience it takes to get from 689 to 690?

I'm sitting on 503 now and can earn between 1.5-2.5m XP an hour depending on how many people are at my grind spot. So just curious to know roughly how long time it'll take me to get up to 690 at that rate.

@Runefang iirc it's about 400k xp.. and I did the math a while back for a friend, to go from 600-690 is something like 44 million xp.

honestly i dont think ill ever get there. My favorite playstyle has, and will always be a stealth spell sword. And that simply does not exist in this game. Second favorite is archer, and that I can do, but the limitations are ridiculous.

I'm not quite sure how they equate the first 10 points into the equation since you get them with 0 exp as soon as you pop 50. But this has been fairly accurate the last few times I have checked back when the cap was 561 and 531.

Using ((TotalPoints / (Cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000

As a holder of multiple CP accounts (main account on PC/NA with 1075 CP, alt account on PC/NA with 778 CP, a mule account on PC/NA that just hit CP a few days ago, and my account on PC/EU with 449 CP), the most efficient way to gain CP (in terms of effort) is to just burn off your daily enlightenment. A single random normal every day will accomplish this.

So for my PC/NA alt account...

So I hit cap after 7-8 months of mostly just burning off daily enlightenment (no grinding, though there were periods of time when I did earn a bit of non-enlightenment XP, like vMA weapon farming). Ever since reaching cap, I've been perma-capped. CP gain is much slower once you reach cap due to the cost penalty, though. So after another 8 months, I've gained just 178 CP (still, that means that I'm set for the next 3 CP increases even if I don't touch the account at all).

For my PC/EU account...

• 2017/08/29 - Reached level 50 / CP 10 (just noticed that this is about a year after my NA alt account hit CP)
• 2017/09/01 - CP 100
• 2017/09/13 - CP 160
• 2017/09/22 - CP 208 (my first vMA completion on EU)

The early CP is very easy and fast, mostly because the early CP is cheap, coupled with the fact that when you hit CP for the first time, you get a full 12 days' worth of 4.8M enlightenment. So you will blaze through the first 100 CP. And then from 100 to 160 is a slower haul that will take about a couple of weeks or so. I craft my final set of sub-160 gear at CP 100 because that's the start of the final enchantment strength tier before the 150/160 tiers. (VR10--which is the equivalent gear level as CP 100 now--was the original level cap when the game was launched.)

Anyway, if you're not in a terribly big hurry, just burn off your daily enlightenment. On most days, I play on EU for just an hour--do writs, a random normal and a few dailies. And you'll hit cap in less than a year. Trying to level faster than the enlightenment rate is when things get really grindy and really annoying.

I still inadvertently grind CP to this day, although I'm about 4 1/2 years ahead of the game, extrapolating the cap raises in the last year. I did level 2 characters during the Witches Festival, and 2 during New Life Festival thus far, with 2 more to go. The reason why this happens is that I don't stop grinding once I hit 50, but grind well past that, until I have all class skill lines and 2-4 weapon lines fully trained - meaning all active abilities unlocked, morphed and trained to rank IV. This is 3-5 CP per newly leveld char, or 3.3-5.5M XP where I'm at. If I intend on playing the char right away, I spec minimal combat skills (enough to fill 2 bars) and the essential passives and then go skyshard hunting and questing, otherwise I spec minimal combat skills (but no passives) and full crafting skills and the char ends up as crafter for daily writs. I plan on playing those chars at some point, but gaining enough skill points takes a lot of time so I don't do more than 2 chars per year, since there are other activities in game besides running after skyshards and questing; I do play my fair share of end game content: vet trials, vMA, PvP. I consider a character fully developed when it has ~330 SP, with fighters, mages guilds, undaunted and AvA trained to rank 10, ledgermain > 16 and everything specced into.

Nice, must have been difficult to stick to it for that long. I'm still not 690 cp despite playing on and off since launch...and I want to get there, I just can't bring myself to grind, at least not for CP.

But I don't think there's anything shameful in grinding or not grinding. Get there any way you want, grinding, questing, pvp, dungeons, or a mix of it all and more.

This. The change they made to vet ranks made this game almost casual, and stupid easy to have alts in BiS.
