Nobody plays at this time unless you work night shifts and get on at this time (which is probably less than 1% of the player base). It's *** 4:00 AM. Even if you're in Europe, this is right in the middle of the work day.

I'm East Coast US, and I play at this time every morning before I head out to work. Usually on server at 4:30AM my time. It's the perfect time to send my master thief out for 20-25k gold, motifs, and countless other treasures while there aren't any other pickpockets around. One run through Vivec yields 3-4 purple motifs, so those sales add up in the guild store! And yes, I'm at it on the weekends too, it's just what time I'm up everyday, regardless.

This downtime does bone me out of 25k gold and motifs once a week though. Starting this patch maintenance two hours later at 6AM would be better for me.... Tis what it Tis...

There is literally no need for maintenance >1 hour at all, looking at most of other multiplayer games.

    Really?

Yes, really, MMO has no huge difference with other Multiplayer games that have patches each 2nd day and they all go background without ~5 hours of unplayable space with MORE changes and bug fixes with such small 2day patches than ESO has with weekly/monthly.

Take an example from Blizzard (also has several MMOs alongside D3, OW, etc, all updates in background), Valve, etc.

There is nothing that would make servers 'must go off' for 5 hours at all, especially in ESO updates. If patch is ready - it's ready long before the maintenance time. And your "experience" with SWTOR has nothing to do with how Multiplayers games are and should be made in 2017/18.
WOW also has downtime think its a bit shorter but still over an hour.
Think lots of the time is testing not just copying files and running database scripts.
If you get an serious bug in the game you either have to take it down to fix it or even roll back.
Non persistent games like shooters are far simpler in structure and more modular.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Used to hate patch maintenance,
because my net connection was so slow it would take a day of downloading to update the game

nowadays my net connection is better quality
so it is just ZOS causing me to lose precious game hours now

may just go back to sleep,
    if my kitty lets me

It should be an hour but it's usually closer to 6. Really turns people off to the game.

lol - I love your version of *nobody* xD

Also what workday? I work never ever at this time!

But I also don't care if there's maintenance; the time/day will suck for someone no matter what. I just clean, eat nachos and read, or mess on the forums xD
