People are getting real lazy with their insults.

Im dueling my GM to pass the time. This cp500 comes over and challenges me. Typical shuffle stamblade PvP build, so I thought id lose quick. It was close and I actually won on my PvE build. Immediately they call me trash and move on to wreck this cp200 guy.

Cmon people if youre gonna throw insults then put effort into it, otherwise just be civil maybe.

You were obviously playing with a super cheesy cancer build in order for you to beat him, given how skillful he is at the game. And for someone to run such a cheesy imbalanced build, you'd have to be a really bad player.

I'm no therapist, but technically, from a psychosocial perspective, you stopped whatever you were doing, logged in on the forum, created this thread and wrote this message to your offender. You could just let it go but you chose to come here to tell us this silly history that nobody here really cares about.

It's not really blahtherapy, I never asked why you did that, I'm just stating what happened. I just wanted to make clear that even tho you subtly try to imply that you that the insult didn't hit you at all, your text and everything that revolved around it (all the ritual of entering here, writing, rewriting, reading before posting etc) implies the complete opposite.

Of course one may question, as you suggested, why would I do that? Why would I stop what I'm doing just to state this obvious thing about your text? I need to apply a little bit of self-criticism here, which is actually a good thing to do sometimes. Maybe I want to look smartass and cunning to farm for upvotes (some agrees and awesomes maybe)? Which clearly imply that I maybe have some degree of a need for acceptance. Or perharps I'm just a lazy procastinator as well and I end up engage in anything other than what I should actually be doing? Who knows XD

A majority of people in general, I would venture, if asked to come up with a snappy retort or a witty insult would be somewhat stumped. At least some of the time. Especially if they are genuinely flummoxed or irritated by something, at which point their entire lexicon - at best - is compressed to "you suck" and "sod off". Or some similarly brief and uninventive equivalent.

This is why those that can, or at least pretend that they can (when it comes to television sitcoms and what not), stand out so much. They are not the statistical average, which is the point.

I would further argue that gamers in general, MMO gamers specifically, and MMO PVPers in particular, do not, on average, necessarily represent the statistical mean of the population as a whole insofar as social skills. [In simpler words, more idiots acting out, more ten year olds "enjoying themselves", more anti-social geek-stereotypes on a power trip...Far from all players, mind you, just a greater proportion, I would guess, than in the general population.]

Given the foregoing, I am hardly surprised at the paucity and, dare I say it, derivative nature of the insult at the source of the OP's complaint. Moreover, having been in PVP MMOs since Godwars MUDs - yes, that was a long time ago - believe me when I tell you that nothing, literally nothing has changed in the intervening decades except that now there are several orders of magnitude more people involved across a far wider geographic area.

@Izaki Dueling has gotten real bad on console. And I do mean real bad. Everything from: Poison usage, Shuffle in duels (I don’t view it to be as shameful as poisons), TrollKing usage, vitality potion usage, Sorcs running 3 shields and camping mines with pet builds, etc. Dueling all and all is about ego flexing these days, and it’s beyond pathetic. I suppose it can be fun, if you’re dueling a guildie or friend, and things are nice and clean. But, these randoms who run-up asking for a duel 9x out of 10 are fighting beyond dirty. And it doesn’t help that they are usually filled with insults and ego. I steer clear of duels nowadays, and make sure to always have my auto-decline setting active.

I get steamrolled when people duel me. I just /bow and go about my merry way. Just ignore people that get salty like that person. I met a good friend from getting my butt kicked duelling.

The entire "conversation" was literally, "Him: trash, Me: lol". It was just a funny scene. My GM and I were just waiting to do a random dungeon and we were casually dueling each other when he ran up, shuffle already cast. The two of us were both Stamblades, only difference was I think 190CP but I automatically assumed I'd lose cause people who eagerly duel like that are PvP builds and he had the Sergeant title on. I had no expectation of winning and just went back over to my GM when it was done. So yeah, the "trash" comment at me was funnily unprovoked. He can't even claim I used a Cancer build on him cause we were exactly the same.

Like you said, just thought I'd share a moment in the game on the Forum built to talk about the game.

I don't know what platform you play on, but on Xbox EU, dueling is very fair play, most people don't use any sort of poisons, weird sets or Shuffle. So no, duelling isn't bad on console.

On PC however, there are dueling tournaments where literally everyone runs Shuffle and poisons along with all the ridiculous stuff that just makes dueling boring.
