Half breed races and mix half and half racial bonuses?

Why not allow for half breed races in this game... would add a lot of options 's as far as appearance and racial trait mixing.

There is interbreeding between all races. The rule of thumb for it is the offspring is usually the race of the mother, though it can sometimes be the race of the father. Interbreeding between men and mer results in fertile offspring, a good example of which is the Bretons. Interbreeding with Khajiits and Argonians and any man or mer might produce offspring but are infertile themselves

Bretons are human/mer hybrids but orcs became orcs because Trinimac got eaten by Boethiah not due to anything in their lineage. :)

actually there are plenty of menmen, menmer, mermer interbreed.

There are rumors, but no known characters, of menbeastfolk/ merbeastfolk interbreed.

One other thing is, except for breton (which was created by centuries long menmer interbreed), most children of interbreed are of one of their parents' race (by lore mostly follow their mother race, but plenty of examples follow their father race as well), with no obvious appreance trait from the other parent.

Whether they inherit some racial trait from theit other parent is unknown, I believe no lore have state that.

Player-player children is unlikely in ESO because whether beastfolk players will feel betrayed, or ZOS will have to risk the accusation of “breaking lore” again to allow beast/men or mer interbreed

Bretons yes. Generations of Humans and Direnni Elves mingling to make a slightly more magical Human.

Orcs though i think are just Orcs. Theyre their own Mer.

A half breed race wouldn't have a cultural/geographical fixation. There are examples of half breeds in other time periods among nobility but the current time period is one of total war.

I meant between the current Races. By the way, Nedes and Nords are practically the same thing. In fact the Nords are Nedic descendants. Which one is it, "Racial Phylogeny"? That states there is no official record of a successful birth between two interbreeding Races, even so it's hypothesized it may still be possible but a true "Half Breed" won't be born. It claims the child will always take after the genes of it's Mother, while only being given subtle genetic traits of the Father. ie. A female Nord with a male Elf will always give birth to a Nord, even if the baby Nord comes out quite Magically gifted.

That could easily be retconned. Honestly Im not sure why Skyrim wasnt able to introduce half-breeds. Instead we are forced to RP that a character is a mix of this and that.

Personally I think this would be a better option of adding "new races" instead of Maormer or Sload etc etc.

Sure they'd be possible in terms of lore. The whole game is full of mixed-race marriages, and we all know that the Bretons are a mix of human and elven. There wouldn't be such a thing as half-human/half argonian, but there would be half-elves/humans.

    That's it exactly.
    The relevant paret would be:
Generally the offspring bear the racial traits of the mother, though some traces of the father's race may also be present.
So, following that bir of lore, all the "halfbreeds" have mommies racial traits, and only -traces- (not traits) of the father.
Like, for example, a dunmer with their mothers dunmer traits may have the nord daddies blue and definitely not-red eyes; or a altmer with mommies altmer traits may have breton daddies black hair, or a Imperial with mommies imperial traits may have redguard daddies dusky skin, and so on. Not quite sure where the horns on some bosmer come from tho... ;):p:naughty:
whether or not mixed races are officially possible in terms of lore, I think it would be too complicated for the MMO at this point
And yes, the powers that be presumably wrote this piece into their lore for that exact reason - so people wouldn't bother them with demands for letting them cherry-pick their racial passives on an "halfbreed" excuse.
    SydneyGrey wrote: »
...and we all know that the Bretons are a mix of human and elven...
True as it goes - it can be theorized that maybe races were more fluid in prior eras, leading to the bretons forming from intermingling direnni elves and nede men, or the bosmer diverging from the aldmer bloodline, et cetera. Or that there were unmentioned magical interferences, like the documented ones behind the orsimer or dunmer...
But since we know the races we have now in ESO will pretty much not change in the coming millenia... because they are still pretty much the same in TES:V-Skyrim... well, you get the idea, it may have been different in times long past, but in the second era and following times, the races as we know it and that certain "mommies traits" rule will hold true.

    ...

In that spirit... we do not need any "half-half" passives... but we -could- use a crown bought unlock to let characters pick appearance coloring options not usually available for their race. Like the black haired altmer for example. Because halfbreed. ;)

Practically speaking, I would submit that the game presently boasts three kinds of elves, four kinds of humans (some with very different genetic markers, e.g. Redguard vs. Nord), plus the Orcs, the Argonians and the Kajit. So that's ten races in all, or seven distinct races if all humans are lumped together, five if you somehow combine all the elves into a single "genotype". [And not including non-playable races, of course. Daerdra, for example, surely would be interested in producing some half-breeds for their own purposes.]

Using combinatorics, if I remember school-level mathematics correctly:

    5 C 2 = 5! / (3!)(2!) = 5*4 / 2 = 10
    7 C 2 = 7! / (5!)(2!) = 7*6 / 2 = 21
    10 C 2 = 10! / (8!)(2!) = 10*9 / 2 = 45

Even if my calculations are off because, to be frank, I am many, many years out of school and am doing these whilst half-asleep, the point is that by asking ZOS to implement half-breeds one is essentially proposing one of two alternatives:

    - Implement every possible racial combination, which means...many extra playable races, with just how many depending on a variety of things such as how one treats humans (one species or four). This is just not realistic.

    - Implement one or two "D&D half-elf" catch-all half-breeds and stop there. Which raises the questions of a) why, i.e. what does this really add to the game, and b) why those one or two half-breeds out of all the possible combinations (and won't this upset some players).

It just does not seem as if there is much of a point, from the standpoint of ZOS, especially when fluff-wise one already has a ready made "child inherits race of the mother" whitewash (or whatever the relevant fluff actually says - the point is it's a legitimate excuse for the devs not to bother).
