Would you prefer First person or Third person view when playing MMO?

If you could only choose one mode, would you play MMO (shooter genre such as Destiny excluding) first person or third person mode? Assume that everyone else would be playing under the same view mode as you and therefore you would not suffer any disadvantage. I'm guessing that most will prefer third person view because that's what people are used to and of course due to aesthetic (can see your own char) and strategic advantages it provides.

However having played EQ in the early days of MMO I definitely miss the immersive aspect of first person view. For example having to look up to a huge giant for the first time was not only shocking, it jolted me with a flight response because well, penalty was losing xp and leaving all your gear behind on the corpse until you could retrieve it. If you do not retrieve your corpse in time everything on that body would simply disappear, so yes I most definitely ran like hell. I also remember going through a Minotaur maze where some of the mobs could see through invisibility, and you'd die if they caught you. No way you'd get your gear back if you died, but I did it anyway because I wanted to be one of the first to explore what was beyond the maze. That kind of intensity in first person view was well, pretty intense. I definitely miss it.

I have to play in 3rd person view - since 1st Person gives me intense motion sickness after ten, fifteen minutes playing. Something about my brain being unable to deal with moving viewpoint when my sense of balance says I don't move - its the same when I watch a fixed viewpoint in a moving car, so no reading while travelling for me... both send me to barfy land pretty quickly. But third person is all right.

First person is so much more immersive, it makes me feel like i'm actually in the game, especially when combined with my 3D-Vision setup.

When was the last time you actually looked *up* when you were running around in 3rd person view?
Especially the dungeons in ESO are soooo much more interesting in 1st person view.
Seriously, if you have a nVidia 3D-Vision setup, you have to try it in 1st person with ESO, it's pretty damn spectacular.

Of course, none of that matters in PvP or Trials where you need the added field of view from 3rd person ...

I played every ES game in first person, including ESO for almost a year after launch. Then I realized I needed to git gud to play trials, and made the switch. For storymode, I prefer first person. For any remotely competitive content, its not even a question.

In other news, one of our trial healers made a great VMOL video doing the whole thing in first person. He didnt tell us until after the deed was done, but honestly, I dont think anyone noticed because he did such a good job. I once tried VMA in first person, but I gave up around stage 5 or so.

I used to be exclusively first person. But after a while I found that I was purposefully nerfing myself in fights by not being able to see around me. In third person you have much more situational awareness.

Better field of view is anyway an benefit, unlike TES games ESO works very well in 3rd person.
Now with an 3 screen setup this changes but as healer in dungeons I would stay in 3rd person simply as I need to get the position of the snipe spammer behind me who stand in stupid while fighting an melee add.

ESO missed the chance to actually be designed with First Person in mind. It was very much a last minute decision when people were clamoring for it to be in the game. The combat and much of the combat and environmental design + graphics are the way they are because they were thinking of it from a 3rd person view.
I enjoy the game but still; it would have been nice if the game was designed with first person in mind. luckily they have been tweaking and updating in order to better it.
Make sure you increase your field of view, it will makes first person much better.

ESO is admittedly difficult to play in first-person ... especially PvP.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim is admittedly difficult to play in third-person.

3rd person for life. With the exception of a few shooters, I’ve always hated first person. I know some people like to immerse themselves within the world, but I’ve pretty much never done that. It’s always characters separate from myself. Even if I create a characte that’s literally supposed to be me, it’s like an alternate reality version of me. Me, but not really me.

First person view is the main reason why I continue to play ESO over other MMOs. I was a competitive soccer and lacrosse goalkeeper for decades so spatial awareness is second nature and first person view just feels more comfortable for me.

Third person, so I know when I'm standing in fire and have to move. Also, to see if a tornado is about to clobber me from behind when I'm about to roll dodge to avoid Stormreeve Neidir's AOE in Tempest Island.

It is nice having the ability to go into first person, but third person is really required for combat since the field of view is so limited in first person.

During beta,or maybe alpha, I wasn't playing yet. This game looked a lot like a traditional MMO. Third person only, and ability bar always up.

From what I have read about it, a lot of Elder Scrolls fans of the single player games really hated it.

This led to the minimal UI, and an option for first person after most of the game was already completed.

That probably explains why the first person seems like an afterthought in this game.

I mean, it kinda depends on the game, but for MMOs, usually third person. I'm honestly not sure if this is just because, every MMO I've played was third person, or if it's something else.

Flip it around, single player games, I love first person shooters. So, go figure.

I like to see my character. Even in single player Elder Scrolls games I play most of the time in third person mode and only switch to first person for fights. Because in games like Skyrim I find aiming my weapons correctly extremely hard in third person. ESO doesn't have that problem, so I can play my prefered mode all the time.
