The details don't matter. For the last four years, there has always been one MMO coming out that spells Doom for ESO. They have learned in those four years to gang up on ZOS. Now there are two. If that doesn't work, they will roll out three of them.

ESO was one of those games that was gonna kill, oh let's see, I recall seeing it on the SWTOR forums, the LotRO forums, the GW2 forums.

And all those games were going to be WoW killers iirc. At least most people have given up on that idea.

The last ESO "killer" I recall being mentioned here was Camelot Unchained. But that beta got delayed by 2 years, lol.

    And the beat goes on...

SWTOR imploded, ESO didn't need to kill it, their own devs did that.
LotRO is still going strong, but ESO has stolen away MANY players, including oldsters like me (I was there from the first beta... you may have heard of Skjald of Rohan?).
GW2 never struck me as an MMO, it's more of an action game (like Battlefront), but to be fair, I don't know much about it.
WoW has been dead for years, there's just so many necromancers out there, it keeps circling the bowl.

ESO has always been a bit of a niche game, with a well established fanbase. It was never going to be the top game ever, but done right it could do WELL, and pretty well for as long as they like.

No one seems to have mentioned the soundtrack (except once en passant).

The music in ESO is varied, atmospheric, at times intensely dark, and at its best raises frissons (goosebumps/skin-org*sms to you plebs....yes, this is what researchers into music induced frissons have called it). People often ask 'what do you listen to while you are playing ESO?'. My answer is invariably 'the ESO soundtrack. Why would one listen to anything else?'.

Other than that, for me it's:

    1. Stunningly beautiful graphics (I can stand and look around me nearly anywhere in the world for ages before moving on).
    2. Decent, and for the most part interesting, quests and questlines.
    3. Immersive lore.
    4. Great voice acting.
    5. Combat even I can get my head around (although that may not necessarily be a good thing).
    6. Crafting which engages me. I haven't been a keen crafter in most other MMOs.
    7. Housing which engages me even more. This is in need of improvement though, but we won't go into that here.
    8. Solo friendly.

I'm a PVE'er so no comment on PVP, but hear it's good!

I've played a lot of MMOs in my time, but ESO is the only one I keep returning to. The only other one that might grab my interest is Pantheon:Rise of the Fallen. But that is still a long way off, and until then I'll be staying right here. And then probably coming back again.

I will definitely agree about the music, even moreso now that we have Morrowind, and the original Morrowind music from ES III in the game again!

It's actually the ONLY game I play that I don't turn the music OFF.

Eh, if this was 2014 I would agree with you. Now days, I actually prefer ESO's music over many of the single-player ES titles in terms of scoring.

it caters to casual more than any mmo, i mean eso has probably the most single player content for an mmorpg

You have not played WoW for last 10 years by the look I can say no other MMO out there beat WoW when come to the most single player content or caters to casual playerbase for the basic end of WoW 2nd expansion The Burning Crusade the basic change focus to casual and single player content.

And if casual playerbase in WoW start whine in their forum Blizzard will change the thing.

Sure ESO feels easy but that has to do with a lot with our CP system for if ZoS would add more CP to mobs and boss in ESO I can guarantee that many fights will be a lot hard then are today for basically all mobs and boss have to stay on same CP lvl since the CP system was introduce.

Heck after each now expansion you can basic go back and solo all old raid in expansion before alone so yeah compare WoW to ESO have to say WoW take home 1st price in both categories caters to casual playerbase and most singel player content

    1. Character creation: the different types of races and each race has it's own look and feel so you don't have a lot of copies of the same body and facial type.
    2. Ability to choose how I want to play a class with armor style and weapon use as well as skills to use. Although I do wish there were more classes to cope with wide range of skills and spells in game.
    3. the environment! Have to say this is a big one, you can tell there was a lot of love put into creating each region from plants, weather, and animals. Each region is unique and feels like it was created specifically for that area.
    4. Crafting is easy and not as time consuming as other games. Sure research time takes away to unlock "traits" or to find recipes all crafting stuff is very much functional and usable for game content.
    5. Although it can be frustrating and time consuming I do like the merchant system they have in game when it comes down to it. Yeah it'd be easier to have one large central item listing, but in a way I like having to price hunt, and to find your favorite merchants or merchant area.

but well ESO doesn't beat other MMO's because well there is no way to ever really prove that it does. It's more of an opinion then anything else there are no facts that come into it.

My question: what does ESO do for you that you prefer over World of Warcraft?

housing. outfit dyes. ability to to craft set armor, at any level. ability to go anywhere I wish from the moment I hit that skip tutorial button. and I do mean anywhere. scaling makes sure of that. fast travel, especially including travel to friend or guildie option. majority of quests are voiced and many give option as to how to proceed within them. aka choices. unlike artifact system that is per character - champion points are server wide. every race in every alliance. there are a few other things, including the fact that these are completely different universes, and just like I don't get to play in Azeroth in ESO - I don't get to play in Tamriel in WoW.

there are things that I get to do in WoW that I don't get to do in ESO, which is part of the reason I tend to play both, however, I still prefer ESO. it has more things that I like vs WoW.

Quality music. Elder Scrolls has always been good that way, though. At least since TES 3.

It differs in the sense that every zone looks and feels closely the same with the exact same things to do. Look at BDO, for example. Every major update is different. They have a Mediterranean coastline, thick pine forests, vast deserts, oriental landscape and cities, ocean expansion with underwater content, etc... All that in a much smaller world that feels much bigger because you can't just port everywhere. In ESO you get the same feeling in the weird country of Morrowind as you get in Rivenspire or anywhere else, the only difference being some semblance of the nostalgic feeling that comes from the original game due mostly to music and the way some NPCs are.

Oh wait... I was supposed to say a positive thing... My bad. ;)

Pretty much. I like the game and all and I think it has the potential to be better than the other MMO's I've played. But it's kind of hard to do when you're constantly DC'ed 3-4 times an hour. None of the great stuff the game has to offer matters if you can't play the game.
