Riding a Horse is so Difficult to Learn!

In ONE DAY my brand new character can conjure and tame Daedric beasts from Oblivion, sling around magic infused with darkness, and drop lightning bolts like Zeus... but it takes ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DAYS to fully develop horse riding skills!

I think it's time to remove the cool down penalty for horse training. 45,000 gold is already enough of an investment.

Every 10 days if you train your mount daily, you should get 5 free. but ZOS wants you to buy their crowns to speed it up so prob will never happen.

instant gratification is what you want. i think its fine the way it is. no doubt zos does too since it give you a reason to login daily.

It takes longer than one hundred and fifty days to fully train a thoroughbred horse in real life.

In addition, daily training is generally measured in hours ... versus just having to log into ESO.

From those perspectives you should be happy ...

Definitely not gratifying for me. I get no pleasure from maxing horse training. All that maxing it does is make the game less annoying.

It's not training the horse anymore, it's training your "riding skills."

Well, I did ride a horse for more then 150 days IRL, just try it and tell me wether you really think you are up to a full-gallop in unknown terrain, jumping over cliffs etc.etc ... least to say: attend battle.

I really enjoy your sense for lore, grumpy, but thinking one can really do that kind of stuff with a horse after only 150 days of training ... well, maybe if you are really really talented and have an extraoridinary horse. ;)

Haha, I'd definitely need more than 150 days IRL to learn how to conjure magical beasts, master dark magic, and bend lightning to my will.

Horse riding should be easy by comparison ;)

I guess we can go back to training each mount individually if you like.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

Yeah, just wanted to add a few things, too (but you have been faster). The conjure thingy is due to level scaling, sooo blame OT (just like for anything else that messes with logic) ... plus while leveling skills they are not as strong as fully leveled skills. So one does have a learning curve.

Second, I do know you got an eye for detail... its 180 days to max out all riding skills... ;P. Needless to say 60 training hours to get your horsey used to you and learn riding (speed) is a fine timescale, 60 hours to get your horsey fit and build muscles (stamina) isn#t too much either and finally train your horsey to carry not only you but your junk too is a task some RL horse will never learn (or just repeatedly denies the request, god-knows-for-what-reason) ... so 60 days doesn't seem too much either.

    60 levels * 3 skills * 20 hours per training = 3600 hours = 150 days

Though in practice, 180 days is more likely, since few will log in and train on the exact moment of the 20-hour reset.

20 hours between cool downs, so technically it could be done in 150 days instead of 180 (if person were to train once every 20 hours).

Hey now, the horse riding trainer is busy and understaffed! They have to limit appointments to once per day!

This is why you always log out next to the stablemaster. All alts need to be logged into once a day for horse riding lessons and to get their hireling mail.

I leveled to 50 in crafting skills in less than a day, this isn't real life. Its the dumbest mechanic in the game.

Leveling the horse take a long time, it's a bit tedious and feels like an artificial gate.
I can understand it for a first character as it forces you to experience the game at a somewhat slower rate, gradually speeding up and the horse able to skip enemies while you are mounted better and better. This however makes no sense to me anymore for alts. So i think it should be account wide. Also makes the game more alt friendly, alts more alluring.

Why don;t they? I can think of 3 reasons.
"Forcing" you to log in daily to level it.
A goldsink at 250 per horselevel (though to skip this they could make a pay for as many upgrades at once as you want once you got that horse skill maxed on a character for the alt.)
Real money buys through crowns, the riding skill scrolls (which saves ingame gold and waiting, and i think the second is the main reason they even sell, get the annoyance out of the game and people won't spend money to circumvent it.) I think this is the biggest reason they won't do away with it. Both for income for ZOS and to prevent backlash from people who bought said scrolls in the past.

I would love it if you could put a point in each attribute once every 20 hours. 60 days is still a long time to level a mount. 180 is just silly.

Not even "training". Pay a guy 250 gold and bam, your Character's Mounts are SLIGHTLY better, and give or take a day maxing the stats takes a month each of logging in every day.

The system should have something like how Skyrim handled leveling your Sneak skill. You gain experience while you do it, so whenever you're on your Mount you'd gain experience toward raising it's stats. Sprinting on your Mount raises Speed, just being on your Mount raises Stamina, and just keep the paying method with Bag Space. You wanna carry more on your Mount, buy a bigger saddle bag.

You can fully train your horse in a few minutes. It's called the crown store, and it's the reason why the current system won't be changed.

When I tried learning to ride in real life my horse kept eating the stupid leaves from the stupid trees. And I couldn't get him to stop. We both got in trouble. (I was like 12)
