You must have missed the whole Cheat Engine weekend. People were flying, dropping meteors every second, over 1 mil stats. Cheat Engine is a program you can download that has reportedly been affecting the game since its release and allegedly still works to some degree.

Lol I did apparently, and hearing you guys I'm pretty glad I did. :P

ESO uses a trusted client architecture. Which is the only reason Cheat Engine could ever work on the game.

In any normal MMO, you run the client, and every time you want to do something you have to poke the server and say, "hey, is this okay?" Server says, "yes," or, "you don't see that big wall in your way? No, Stop moving."

ESO is not a normal MMO. A lot of data is handled in local memory. So, you tell the server, "I'm moving forward 20 feet," server says, "yeah, that's cool, have fun." Or, if you're using a memory editor, you can tell the server, "I'm moving forward 600 feet, and flying," at which point the server would say, "yeah, that's cool, have fun." And we'd get loads of posts going, "wtf is with the flying bots?"

Always thought ESO operated as any other MMO, I was not aware of how Cheat Engine lets people manipulate their memory for these purposes so easily. So I stand corrected. In which case I'd say yes, that definitely counts as 'hacking' in my book (manipulating server-client data), and it's something ZOS should look into. With that in mind, I still think it's probably not what happened in the duels OP describes, but thank you for explaining. :)

Cheat engine used to be a problem. Then ZOS took most of the important client-side data and began storing it server side.

Remember how lag free cyrodil used to be? yeah i member.

wonder if the two are related...

anway, only a few things are still stored in your client. The main one that can still be abused is your location, but the server now has "speed limits" set up that will autodetect things if you move too fast. Whether or not youre blocking is also client side, but dodge roll is server side.

Well im not sure about those guys in particular, but i have a friend who does that with level 10 characters. He golds out the gear and is really talented in playing the chars, then he goes and picks fights with people who don't really know how to duel, usually in glenumbra.

With battle leveling set up the way it is, low levels get insane stat boosts... especially in gold gear. He stomps CP 160+ chars that dont duel regularly all the time.

Your friend is one sad, pathetic human being.

Well at least he isn't talking s*** over the internet about people he's never met

Calling out people like that really isn't trash talking.

Your buddy abuses a system designed to help new players to grief others.

Well thank you, Thogard, for your defense. IT WAS ME. I am the golded out level 8 with full divines sets and purple dropped gear :-) and no, I don't hack. When someone has... oh say... 600 levels on you and fully specced gear... it doesn't matter if you throw your all at them. And it doesn't mean they're cheating. It just means CP is broken (like we didn't all know that). Cheers!

If you where in a cp allowed campaign. They could still be cp660 with the low level buff.
So could be very experienced players out trolling the unexpected and the people not to knowledgeable on how that works.

You can't go cyro on a lvl 8 char

    It is known!

Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Dueling on a < level 10 character is good fun. You've got the 660 cp behind you, battle levelling and in my case purple armour (albeit training). People invite you to duel expecting to beat you in seconds.
My best one to do this on is an argonain stam dk and lurk about in vulhkal guard dueling people. Fun! :)

Hacks? Yeah, it’s possible, very small percentage of players. “Weird” people in PvP? A lot.

I think hack is possible. Once I challenged a random lvl 10 dude with my lvl 4 noob, but my 4 noob was decked out in crafted DPS sets with about 300 CP behind him at the time. The other guy may have had full regen gear but I couldn't make a dent on his health. I never saw it dip.

The whole system is counterintuitive... in pve if you can't beat a world boss at lvl 10 ... don't bother going back at 30, you will just lose worse lol

Plus no one explains it to you ... no instructions... if it weren't for the forums I would not know at all

Well, by level 30 you'll have more skill points, so a lot more passives unlocked. That will make a difference. You'll also have better ultimates unlocked.

Also, by level 30, you should hopefully have a better grasp on the game, and how to play. It's not 100% reliable, but that's a bigger factor in your ability to clear content than your stats.

Hackers DO exist but those guys probably were legit. You get insane boosts to your stats n gear below lvl 50 in PvP. It seems they would be drawing too much attention to themselves if they were getting digital assistance. Open world PvP gives those kinds of players a certain plausible deniability that makes them difficult to pin down.

Don't let folks tell you people do not hack. It's been proven that it happens. The thing is, most people that are accused are likely just really good.

One thing to remember with low levels is though that your stats become weaker if you outlevel your gear. I normally craft new training gear for fresh characters every 20 levels or so, but recently I leveled a char with lvl 4 blue training gear all the way to 50. At around lvl 30 it really begins to show.
