Rkindaleft Ancient Orc Motifs

I wanted to just double check and get some updated information on the Ancient Orc motifs in Rkindaleft.

I have googled it and found information on extremely low drop rates and such, but from what I can tell, it seems to be all late 2015 and early 2016 (maybe a thread in June 2016). So, I thought I'd make a thread asking on updated information, if for no other reason than to have a confirmation that things haven't changed in 2017.

I haven't done any extensive testing on what's been said. I've checked a couple of popular trader spots and keep seeing a few Old Orsinium AO motifs pop up, but for Rkindaleft, I've only seen a Helmets and maybe an Axes motif. And, I was in the dungeon killing bosses for at least 3 hours and didn't get a motif drop at all. Not enough testing to actually confirm that things are the same, but I'm guessing they could be.
I could always do more testing to see, but especially with me being on Xbox One, some stuff (mainly the guild store sales and stuff) would be a lot easier to check on PC. And, it seems like at least some people would be trying to get the set, so I thought I'd just ask/confirm a few things:

• Are a lot of people still having trouble getting motifs, to the point where it hasn't seemed worth farming? (I know it was from like 9pm-1am on a Wednesday night, but there were only maybe two other people in Rkindaleft and they didn't really seem to be going for bosses much).
• Does the nerf seem to be just with bosses, or overall? From the old threads I read, when people said they found one, it was sometimes from a mob or the group event boss (both of which seem like they would have lower odds of dropping them than the dungeon bosses.)
• Are the motifs still super rare/expensive in guild stores on PC? I know I still need to check other places to confirm rarity on Xbox, and that they could just be priced over 40k.

My biggest thing is that I don't want to waste a lot of time if it's already common knowledge that they haven't fixed things from last year. And a lot of the old threads were saying the drop rate was probably nerfed for when it would be added to the crown store. The Ancient Orc motif is up on the crown store now, but it's for 5k crowns, and I'm not spending all that when I only need 3 chapters (Belts, Legs, Shields).

It looks like the anniversary is in November, and while I know it wasn't part of Orsinium's last anniversary, since Thieves Guild's anniversary and the game's anniversary events came after and they both included increased motif drops, I'm hoping they'll include some type of anniversary thing (double loot, reward boxes, etc) that can increase the odds of getting these.

Is it just from public dungeon Rkindaleft and Old Ors bosses? Mobs?
Do they drop from Tresure chests in Wrothgar?
How about daily quests in Wrothgar, any motif drops from that?

Any current help would be most appreciated!

Not long ago I was looking for an acient orc stave motif and it took me a couple of weeks to find in the guild stotes. I don't think I ever saw more than maybe 4 or 5 pages of it on any store and I hit up all the major markets.

I gave up on those long ago. I had one drop from trash in Old Orsinium and one from a boss. Never got another one or one from Rkindaleft. I have no interest in farming items and if I cant get it reasonably I just live without it. The drop rate probably still sucks.

I did three complete play through's of Orsinium when it was released. Never got a single page. I ended up buying the motif in the Crown Store with my free monthly ESO+ crowns. Guild store prices are very expensive. The prices will continue to go up as that DLC gets older.

AO drops in Rkindaleft as much as it drops in Old Orsinium. I regularly farm them to complete the collection and just give the duplicates to my alts. Sometimes when I have nothing to do or no one to talk to I camp one of the bosses from either dungeon and just wait for it to respawn. Usually I get a motif anywhere between 10 minutes to 3 hours. Would probably get thwm faster if I bothered chasing the other bosses around.

They do drop. They're just rare. Think the last time I checked the prices they were at about 70k per page, PC EU.

As for other sources, iirc my first AO drop was on one of many pots in Old Orsinium. All the others came from bosses. So I'm guessing whatever sources of loot we find in the dungeons has a chance to drop them, be it bosses (more common), containers, or trash mobs.

If your missing only 3 pages jsut buy them with gold.


Old Orisinium is best place to farm AO pages i think as urns and furniture plans dropping now, although these urns loot table was heavily nerfed.


With a heavy push on selling these via crown store or crown crates expect them to get rarer!

The Ancient Orc motifs are split between the two public dungeons and it is still an extremely low drop rate, the dailys drop malacath and trinimac motifs, chests dont drop any motifs.

For some reason I have a few Ancient Orc motifs, including chest, leg and a weapon or two? I don't remember getting them but I'm guessing it was during my early days when I would I had no idea what I was doing. To this day I always use all motifs I find on my crafting char, which means I seldom sell any unless it's from pledges.

Well... I remember getting those back when grinding mobs in those Orsinium dungeons was a viable way to level up.
I had to buy certain pages to finish my collection, though.

the motifs are split between the 2 public dungeons in Wrothgar. I think they drop from both the bosses and normal mobs. It's a low chance for both either way

I might have to try sticking with one boss again and see if it helps. A few months ago, that worked very well in Old Orsinium. I just stuck around the spider boss for a while, and when I felt my luck was waning, it seemed to get better if I moved onto the Harpy bosses.
But, I also remember not having nearly the same luck in Rkindaleft-- I remember farming each boss for a few hours and not getting anything. Except Rkindahar, since doesn't even give real drops half the time.

But on my recent farming attempts, I rotated bosses and still wasn't getting anything. The main problem I see is that being able to farm a single boss relies on other people farming other bosses, so it relies on it getting a decent amount of attention.

My main issue is finding the chapters I need.
Unless they've changed it so that all chapters drop in both places, all three of the pages I need are Rkindaleft pages.
The few Rkindaleft pages I find in the guild store tend to be closer to maybe 50k (or more), and they haven't been the pages I need.
I still need Mazzatun and Silken Ring pages, and we can't currently search specific items and motifs, so at the moment,I'd rather either farm or wait than go through every trader to [i[maybe[/i] find a chapter I need, and probably overpay.

I'll probably try farming it a bit more, and if I don't come up with anything, I'll probably just focus on other motifs I need.

Chests is in Old Orsinium, and Legs is in Rkindaleft, so if you went into those, you might have gotten them.
But, you also could have gotten them if you participated in the last Anniversary event.

Not sure if my Infos are correct, but wasnt there a 1hr CD on the Dropps, so when you dropp one at 3pm. you cannot get another page till 4pm.?

I would guess RNGesus works in more mysterious ways than that.

One thing I've noticed is that farming these things is rarely effective. When I go through one of these dungeons and kill a few bosses, sometimes I get one fairly quickly, but if I don't I can farm for hours and still get nothing.

I accidentally learned a master writ that took an Ancient Orc motif I didn't have. Couldn't find it in any guild stores so decided to visit Rkindaleft and hope I got lucky. I had a Sorcerer that I was leveling skills and passives on so I went in with her. First day I did all the bosses twice and a couple of them three times. Didn't get a drop. After that I decided I would just do the bosses one time each day. 2nd day I got a motif but not the one I needed. 3rd day first boss I got the motif I needed. I'm thinking I got really really lucky.

I killed 47 bosses over 2 or 3 hours in rkin and got shoulders and staves, so unsure if there is a 1hr cooldown

Farmed Rkindaleft for like 5 days straight (and I mean 5-6 hours per day) and never found any.

I've spent ... maybe a total of 10-12 hours in Old Orsinium. never found any.

I'm currently farming the AO motif on xbox. They drop from mobs and bosses, very rarely though. I have a circuit that I do which involves one boss and a bunch of mobs. By the time I make it back to the boss it's respawned. Doing this I probably average a page every two hours.

I said wouldn't do that 13 more time and bought the motif and put my waist motif in store 80k

I ended up getting all the ones I've needed this way. I think I got a drop at least the first, third, and maybe fifth day before it got random, but I was still getting them in a decent number of runs.
I felt like I got more chapters in similar amounts of time/work--taking one day and going through 10 or so rotations and not getting any chapters vs going in for 1 rotation a day for a week (7 rotations) and getting 2 or 3 chapters.

It could absolutely just have been RNG suddenly in my favor (I didn't do it enough to say the odds are statistically better or anything), but I'm sure counting the number of boss rotations in each, I personally got better results when I rotated.

At the very least, it's not as frustrating. The extra travelling to it stinks (my character does writs and daily quests, so she can't sit parked in the dungeon every day), but its much less frustrating to get nothing for r 5-15 minutes of work than it is to get nothing for 3 hours of work.
And the rumored 1-hr cooldown doesn't even factor in.

Motifs in Rkindaleft dungeon are broken

Did 5 runs per day for 1 week (about 40 runs) and it droped 0 pages...

All the pots/urns are empty aswell

Hope this is going to be fixed sometime

I am so glad that my grind for AO motif is done and over.

As others have noted, they drop from bosses, and extremely rarely from mobs (so rarely that it isn't worth the effort to farm mobs. Unless you need the xp or something.)

My experience points towards something like 3% chance of getting a chapter drop from a boss. Also note that once you kill a boss, you will be on loot cooldown. It's pretty much the same duration as the boss respawn rate, so even if you can rush from one boss to the next and burn them down real quick, it will not make any difference.

And finally, keep in mind, that the chapters are split between Rkindaleft and Old Orsinium. I can't offer much advice on farming Old Orsinium, but for Rkindaleft, the easiest thing, in my experience, is to camp that Sharga the Firestarter. The boss spawns pretty much like clockwork every 5 minutes and takes only like 30 seconds to kill. But there are some other variables that may break the cycle. What they are, I do not know. Maybe it is dependent on new players entering the dungeon, or whether the other bosses are up or down. Or it might be some other factor completely. Don't really know beyond that of the several hundred times I killed Sharga, 95% of the time the respawn happened 5 minutes after I killed the previous version.

In general, it took me about 20 to 30 kills to get a drop. And that translated to roughly 2.5 hours of farming per drop. On some evenings I got it after two or three kills, but on some other nights I had to kill Sharga 40 times to get a drop. When ever I got one, I stopped for the day, just in case there was some extra chapter specific cooldown involved. And because it was a mindnumbingly dull thing to do.

While farming Sharga, I was actually working on other projects, modding Oblivion and Skyrim, and had ESO run on the background and hopping in whenever Sharga respawned. I guess one could also read a book or something while waiting for the boss to respawn.

I originally farmed roughly half of the chapters back when Orsinium was new and hot and the place to be, and people were selling their duplicates for 20k or so. But since it was ridiculously tedious, even back then,I gave up and decided to finish it up at some later point in the future.

Last fall I finally decided to finish up my collection. First I farmed Old Orsinium and got the missing three chapters fairly quickly (and also got an excuse to finish the delve on several of my alts) and then went to Rkindaleft. After two weeks of slaughtering Sharga, I was missing just one chapter and had over dozen extras. At that point I bought the missing chapter for something like 65k, and had to spend several days constantly scanning Tamriel Trade Centre for one that was reasonably (relatively speaking that is) priced to pop up. I then sold all my extra chapters and walked away with 500k in gold, and still felt like it was a waste of my time. The fact that I was able to work on other things while farming is the only reason I persevered.

(And that really is the word that best describes the whole ordeal - persevere: "continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no indication of success".)

The thing is, that there are very few people farming these motif anymore. They take too much time to drop and people are not willing to pay the kind of amount that would making farming them lucrative. Sure, you can sell one for 40-70k but... You can make much more gold farming others things for the same amount of time it takes to get one of these.

And that really is the rub. As the game grows older, more and more stuff will pile in the "takes way too much time to bother with" category. The same is happening with Morag Tong style. When Morrowind was new, everyone was doing the daily world boss quests, and there was a lot of Morag Tong chapters floating about. Now... Well people are starting to move on to other things, and the price of single chapters is starting to climb. When the next chapter rolls along, I expect Morag Tong chapters to got to the 50k+ price range.

It is a symptom of a larger issue. As the game matures, and more stuff is introduced, there comes a point where new players will have no realistic chance of catching up with the veterans. ZOS really should start making old stuff more easily available as time passes.

The point is to lower drop rates to a frustrating level so you are enticed to buy it. Extreme manipulation and the WRONG WAY to do microtransactions.
But alas that is how they do it

I have been in both dungeons fairly often since wrothgar dropped and only seen 1 page. They are not worth the effort to farm. Same goes for dragur.

I got all mine by using three different characters, placing one at each of 3 bosses. Log one in, kill the boss and log out to a different character. With this rotation there was very little down time waiting for respawns. As an added bonus, lots of briarheart and pariah to sell.

Didn't read all the posts by I'll tell you what is still true. 7 pages drop in each of the public dungeons. They are still expensive, the drop rate is low but there's also a hidden timer after you get one. Basically run circles in one of the two Dungeons until you get one motif page then go do something else for the rest of the day. It's intended to take a long time to get them all. It took me about 6 months to finish all the orsinium motifs.

A couple of days ago I dropped AO maces I think from the spider, which I'm going to feed to my 4th or 5th alt. I only camp the first bosses on either dungeon, so the spider and the firestarter orc woman. And when a page drops I stop farming and continue with other no less tedious farning routines. After been doing this on and off for at least a year, I have AO shields on all 6 relevant characters, but my crafter is still missing the staves which is the last one.

On the down side, getting that page is going to take a while. On the bright side I sold an AO shields page last week for about 60k. Been getting a few Briarheart daggers and axes too, so not too shabby. Slow? Yes. But not a total waste otherwise.

Edit:also, no. Camping a boss does not rely on other people farming the other bosses. They have a fixed respawn timer. I've spent enough hours camping them to know that there's absolutely nobody going by for long periods of time (in the wee hours) and they still spawn on their own. The best part of that is that it guarantees loot every time, while when they get a forced respawn because the others are being farmed, they will drop gold and nothing else.

Went in there today, killed 5 bosses and got a page. Easy 35k, already have them all myself.

Some people seem to have a lot less luck than me in that dungeon...

The only time dungeon bosses respawn outside of their set timer is when someone who has not completed the quest for that dungeon comes into the area the boss is located; at which point it forces a respawn, but your loot timer is still ticking away meaning you will only get gold for killing it until the next respawn.
