Enchanting..yea right!

I want to know why??? why the enchanting craft has been made so complex and ridiculous that's its just plain stupid and makes no sense at all.. I get the feeling the developer assigned to this original task to create the enchanting craft was absolutely pissed when he/she devised the mechanics of this concept. Enchantments that reduce enchantments... why would anyone want to do that, so why involve it... items you cant enchant.. why? you're an enchanter.. you create simple enchantments (white) to complex enchantments(yellow) but you cant apply them to some basic items let alone some high end items.. its all higgldy piggldy, ie all over the place, this craft need a real serious rethink...

you said you cant enchant all items?
every item i have tried to enchant works.
the only thing that bothers me about it is that it took a long time to get to Master enchanter, but i realize it is the way it should be, and taking a long time to max it out makes sence and is the way should be..
i have never had trouble with enchanting or making enchantments. [just being honest]

You mean the ones that debuff enemies? Gee, it's a mystery... Those'll never catch on.

Enchanting is a LOT easier to level than it was at launch.

Not sure about not being able to enchant some items, except that perhaps you don't have the proper level or type of glyph with which to enchant a piece. There are 3 categories of glyphs: weapon, jewelry, armor. You have to have an armor glyph if you want to enchant an armor piece.

Also, the glyph must be of the appropriate level or below. It used to be that it had to be in the same level range. Now, you can use lower level glyphs on higher level items (though the only reason to do this is if you don't have the appropriate level of potency rune, but you can now buy those). So, if you have an armor glyph, but it's for CP160 and your gear is CP150, you can't use it on that piece of gear.

Also, enchanting is easier now since you can purchase every available potency glyph from the enchanting vendors. Used to be you'd have to scour the world or hope that a guild trader had the level of rune you wanted, in order to make glyphs. Now, you can just purchase them at the vendor. And, with the change in the runestone nodes, where they always drop an essence and aspect rune, and sometimes a potency rune, it's easier than ever to make the glyph you want.

Not sure what you mean by enchantments that reduce enchantments, unless you're referring to the fact that armor glyphs have different values depending on the gear you're enchanting. You get full value on chest, head, legs, but only a percentage on the rest of the pieces.

Most certainly EZ. It does seem the OP should seek the help from a guild mate.

When I started, Enchanting seemed a bit difficult but it makes sense now. There's a great site for ESO and especially crafting, Sunshine Daydream's Guide to ESO, the crafting section is down the page a bit.

It can definitely seem complicated at first--but essentially it's just figuring out what you want, and picking out the pieces. Just so you can get an idea of what's going on, though, here's some basics.

    The different rune types are:
Potency - Determines the glyph level and makes the effect (determined by the Essence rune) "additive" or "subtractive"
Essence - The "essence" of the effect. The exact effect is changed based on the Additive or Subractive potency.
Aspect - Simply increases the quality. Makes it range from common to legendary like items.
Essentially, when figuring out what runes you need to make a glyph, you'll be working backwards. The aspect will be usually be the easiest to pick. When you know what effect you want, you'll know the essence, and know if you want an additive or subtractive potency--then, knowing the level of your item, you'll figure out which potency rune you need.

Potency (the additive/subractive part) + Essence runes determine the exact effect. They are all intended to benefit you, so the changed benefits can be a bit confusing, as depending on the essence, the possible effects (particularly subtractive effects) can be unexpected or hard to remember. For example, for elemental or status essences (ex: Fire or Poison), the subtractive is to add resistance. For Health/Magicka/Stamina essences, subtractive adds a "drain" effect. For Magicka/Stamina recovery it reduces costs.

And the overall effect determines where the enchantment can be applied. There is a somewhat general rule to this, though.
    - Weapon enchantments are any enchantments that will "proc" rather than be on all the time. These would be anything that directly affects enemies, such as debuffing their strength/armor, or adding elemental damage or 'drain" properties to your attacks.

    - Armor enchantments are simple: They are the Health/Magicka/Stamina additive proprties (adds max stats).
    - Jewelry enchantments are any other enchantments (non-Additive-base-stat) that are continuous. Things like resistances, cooldown/cost reduction, increased recovery, etc.

For now, my biggest suggestion would be to just use resources until you get used to it.

For learning: As @Ardaghion linked, Sunshine Daydream's site is good for learning. I also like UESP's Enchanting page for info on enchanting and making glyphs, and their Runestones page to get a bit more understanding and notice patterns in how the additive and subtractive effects compare. It helps you start recognizing when you want to use Magicka vs magicka recovery runes, or Power vs Physical/Spell Harm runes. Or reminds you that Health/Magicka/Stamina recovery runes all have the additive effect of increasing recovery, but that while Magicka/Stamina recovery runes' subtractive effect is to reduce costs, Health recovery's subtractive effect is Oblivion/Irresistable damage.

Glyph-Making Reference: I find UESP's Glyphs page (http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Glyphs) a great resource for actualy making glyphs. It has a compact list (compared to SD's) of all the potency glyph information you need. And has the possible glyph effects separated by slot type, so you can choose what you'd think is best for your slot.

It's really annoying that the runes are all over the place in my inventory, and in cases where I have to craft for low level gear, the runes overlap etc. The system needs an overhaul and some order.

I can remember the basic runes needed for max level armor, weapon and jewelry enchantments, but for anything else I have to use this page.

    http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Runes

Btw. it's not a guide to how you can level up Enchanting, it's just a page that has the runes listed in order, so you can see which runes you will need for what glyph.

Enchanting has always been a big mess x_x
