Zenimax, would a high resolution texture pack for PC be possible?

I would love a Hi-Res pack built into the game.

But for now you can make some adjustment that may help. I've followed bit and pieces of this https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/3jjoql/are_you_having_fps_issues_wih_eso_on_a_pc_well/ and the important part is:

"EDIT: 11-12-15 DO this MIP LOAD Texture tweak last after everything is running silky smooth, as it can cause performance decrease on some older pc's or laptops.) Search for SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS . its probably at 0 or higher. Set it to "-3" Youll be astounded at the detail of the characters and buildings all of a sudden. no more blurry textures."

This really helped sharpen everything in the world for me. but always back up your User Setting before changing anything in case it doesn't work or you don't like it

Looks like this was necroposted. Anyway, I think the game should work on optimising on multi cores first.

wouldn't they need to do this on all platforms tho?

Like even for the xbox one x there wasn't different files from what the non xbox one x version has.
Maybe everyone on xbox one has better files now but...assuming not based on this and the ESO Live about xbox one x as they said there isn't an xbox one x asset update.

    Yes please!

Looks OK in 3rd person view but really could use some HD textures especially when playing in 1st person.

Completely agree the game has outright terrible textures for a 2014 game. Hope they make a graphics update soon and it looks as good as Skyrim special edition :) .

Its a 2014 MMO. MMOs generally have lower textures otherwise the games would run like a slug stuck to super glue.

I would buy a 60 FPS pack for PC.

6700k, 1070 gtx, games on ultra 60 fps, eso on high-medium 30 fps in fights. Can't care about textures at all with such performance in ESO Beta 2017.

Every DLC since thieves guild at least, has been built with high res textures. However you'll notice they reuse certain objects like wood planks and such. Your can set your texture resolution on the highest settings in 4k, and it really shows that the base game has poor textures. Costumes that were released before TG have low res as well. I think it would be awesome to have a HD pack, but they would have to replace the textures of nearly 90% of the game. And for those who mention the side of the game, that's only because of the audio files. I'd say 80% of that storage is audio voiceovers.

Hey, quick summary of what's going on here, coming from a guy who studied environment design in school for games.

    1) when there is a discrepancy in texture resolution between different assets, it is most likely the scale of that asset. Environment assets like rocks are usually scaled and rotated rather than retextured to create variety between the same asset used repeatedly in an environment. This is an individual artist and QA problem that should be keeping all texture resolutions looking consistent.

    2) Textures are stored in multiple resolutions. A game released in 2014 most likely has their textures at 2048x2048, in which the game engine stores them also at the smaller sizes of: 1024p, 512p, 256p, and finally 128x128p. As you move further away from an object, or adjust your settings lower, the texture pack also decreases in resolution.

    3) keep in mind here that different assets will have higher and lower degrees of detail. Games are utilizing over a million polygons for character models and under 1000 polygons for most environment assets. The same applies to texture resolutions.

    BDO.

Bad example. BDO actually has terrible texturing, turn off all your settings to see the game for how it truly is. All of BDO's prettiness comes from post processing. Imagine if you could constantly photoshop the game in real time. This is what BDO actually looks like without all its enhancements.

    _id1457115860_705198.jpg

BDO and all newer games cheat. ESO and FFXIV were the last two actually high def MMOs, all the newer ones are using shortcuts to conserve memory usage with lower polygon models. Even games like Destiny are built on the illusion of high def graphics rather than actually being so. The next game to use this level of technology will be Star Citizen.

Honestly, I'm at 4k and the textures look great, especially for an MMO. I did notice that getting the 4k textures to actually be what is displayed was a little tricky. The game did not initially want to give me the option for 4k in the in game menu and oddly also was displaying the 4k textures with 1080p settings for a while resulting in strange glitching of the camera from time to time. In the end it was some combination of trying the resolution in game, out of game in the startup menu, and changing from windowed two full screen and back that proved the unlock code for 4k. It is buggy but looks great now.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

    Go to:
    - Documents > Elder Scrolls Online > Live > Usersettings

    Find the line:
    SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS

It will be set to 0 if you're playing on High texture quality. Set it to -3. Now open the game and enjoy the difference.

You can also download Votan's Advanced Settings, an add-on that lets you change .ini settings in-game. From there you can adjust texture res on the fly WHILE in game. Set it to Supreme and enjoy! If you start to get laggy, turn it down a little.

With the add-on you can change it in the video settings, or go to the bottom option in your settings where you can adjust all the other .ini settings within the game.

BEST utility Add-on EVER thank you Votan whoever you are!

As author of many mods over the years, I endorse this idea! I'd love to get my hands on the texture files and redo them! As this is not possible, all I can do is add my voice to the asking.

That doesn't have anything to do with this.
People look at this setting as a godsend and don't even understand what it does. Google "mipmap".
I do use it, btw. I don't observe any differences, but I keep it there just in case.

What I/we are talking about here are textures that are way too low resolution for the size of the objects they apply to. Some of them are probably cases of terrible UV mapping job, but generally, it's about the resolution.

I'd rather they devote their resources to other things. Is it annoying to see crappy resolutions? Yeah, of course. Especially when I throw down a lot of money for a high end gaming computer. That said though, what comes to mind is WoW. I played since Vanilla and they did do some graphics updates to Vanilla a few years ago. There's a distinct difference between Vanilla and new content. You can actually see the changes in technology as you transition from Vanilla to BC, and forward. It's kind of endearing to me... like a history lesson. It also makes me appreciate the new content that much more. I'm fascinated by the trees especially ...

I think a lot of what we are talking about isn't perhaps so much technical limitations of the times, but sloppy work. (I know nothing on the subject though, so please correct me if I am wrong). Instead of going back and redoing so much, I'd rather they just focus on learning from their mistakes and polishing their work before release in the future.

Just my very humble, probably worthless, opinion.

I partially agree with you. Certainly on the sloppy work part. Even medium resolution texture could look ok if the mesh work is done properly, and the model it applies to is not five polygons.
But this is Bethesda we're talking about here.
All Skyrim players will instantly know what I'm talking about here. Just one "word": SMIM. Suddenly even some of the old original textures are acceptable just by doing proper work on the models.
