I actually like the current system the way it is. Players with 1000 champ points already have an advantage over lower costs players; skill and experience. Having an extra buff to your % stats is unnecessary.
None of us transfers had 1000 CP at console launch, the champion system had only been out a month or so just before console launch.
That is a myth, and the few hard core guys that did have a bunch of cp at the time were avid PC players who would never transfer to console.
We did have more CP than a new console player as we had what ZOS gave us for our Veteran rank conversion and the month worth of earning time. And the fact that we had 2 years experience on you guys which was the biggest factor.
Now gold on the other hand...

Now imagine a game where gameplay comes first and what grind there is pretty much comes naturally with playing what you want, rather than dying of boredom "grinding", and right there you have one of the reasons as to why MMORPGs are a dying genre with so few companies willing to invest in them these days.
