You can krit allways for your crit chance on every enemy. Impenetrable reduce the crit damage (3k+ impen reduce kritdamage for around 50%) and damage migation shields reduce the kritdamage allways to 0%. So you krit them, but deal just damage for a common attack until shield is away. When your krit is higher then the shield, your restdamage can make kritdamage ;)

Yeah, the way shields work according to FTC is it turns your original damage into hardened ward damage, that damage may or may-not crit, but the damage on the shield is the same either way.

e.g. If your attack crits, and the damage is more than the size of the shield, the crit attack will deal normal damage for the size of the shield, then crit multiplied damage onto the health.

Shields receive critical strikes but are coded to have infinite, or at least very high, critical resistance. They take zero crit damage, but will still register critical strikes.

This is why sets like Scathing and Fury and abilities like Crit Surge will proc on damage to shields.

Not exactly. Eso's built in fct doesn't say the attack on the shield is a crit at all, so it's not that it has high resists.

The damage you do might still crit, but is replaced with a counterpart damage for the size of the shield which doesn't crit.

So your crit is registered, thus proccing scm/effects. But not actually damaging the enemy.

Source: Damage recaps shows (name of shield) as an attack.
