What on earth are you doing to the dye system??

Many costumes do not dye well however...if you dye all a white color, then apply something else, it seems to show better.

Shouldn't be like this but eh, might help.

I highly doubt that this is some insidious plot to make people buy Crown store dyes, or a deliberate decision. It's probably just because the costumes are lifted from NPC wear. They were designed with NPC aesthetics in mind, and most NPCs wear the outfits in monochromatic colors. Submit a ticket about it and they might look into it. Personally, I think both costumes are fetching in their default colors.

The easiest way to predict how a costume will dye is to look at the colors NPCs wear the costume in. If they're varied, it will probably dye "well."

I would buy permanent unlock dyes. I will never buy a single use dye.
Same. I almost bought the awesome red, white, and blue dye stamp - then I found out dye stamps are used once, only for costumes, and not for armor. I'm never buying a dye stamp, and I'm wondering if those who did were under the assumption I was - dyes were permanently added to your dye pallete, could be used on armor, and each color could be used independently.

I say the same for medium armor. Looks damn terrible.

While I agree that this is an issue that should be fixed, you're really overreacting. There are several armour pieces and costumes that have been in the game for ages that dye even worse. It has nothing to do with any "nonsense direction the dye system is being taken in".

Yes, it's true that the dye system has always been bad. It's true that there remain armors with large portions you can't dye at all, like Daedric. It's true that ZOS knows all these things and continues to put out costumes that have areas that cannot be dyed, like the Breton male noble costume where you are stuck with brown boots and belt ('cause boy does ZOS like brown!) and that they will not revisit anything already in the game in order to improve it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't keep calling them on it. ESPECIALLY on crown store items they expect us to pay real additional money for.

Does it look different with the special dye stamps?
More plausible that the dye color is an overlay on the default texture, if default is a bright color it will dye well if not it will probably not dye well, you also have the bump mapping, this causes two armor pieces to look different.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It'd be nice if red was red and not pink. Irritating as hell.

Some medium armor is a vivacious exception to the rule, such as Khajiit Medium, which dyes exactly like you want it UNLESS you are trying to go for white or gray. So they still need to fix it so I can dye it those colors. And then they need to fix medium armor as a whole so that it all dyes that well, even if it doesn't have the same lacquered shine.
