Combat Effect Changes

In an effort to reduce the visual effect noise in group combat situations, we’ve hidden most visual effects from persistent damaging area of effect abilities cast by your allies. Area of effect abilities that have a synergy, healing, or defensive component that can benefit you will still be visible, and area of effect abilities cast by enemies will also still be visible.

I believe this is a very bad idea especially for PvP. It is important for pvp teams to see what skills allies are putting out. How can I know that someone is doing something that I tell them to? If I tell my magsorcs to pop Eye of the Storm, I have no way of knowing if they did. If I ask my stam members to drop caltrops on the breach, I've no way of seeing that.

You're effectively removing 1/2 of the combat that is visible, which leaves pvpers with not a full story of what is going on, and will hinder the ability to command and read situations.

    I kind glossed over this, but are you saying allies can't see my caltrops, Bahrahas curse circle etc? They need those visual clues so they can help to kite enemies into those effects.

    Perhaps allow it to be a toggle? It seems they'll be using whatever code they used for custom combat tells to make the effect transparent.

    Teamwork doesnt only happen with skill synergies. This change is hardly an improvement and If I wanted to remove game elements to improve performance I'd decrease my graphic quality . If you guys must test this change just make it an option in settings so those who prefer playing 100% of the game can do so.

    Edit: For example in group fight Im always on alert incase someone casts an AOE snare. When people cast frost blockade or Bahraha's Curse I synergize that with Elemental Storm for full effect.

    This is something significant for console users. I dislike NOT seeing allies' AoE abilities but I can really appreciate any performance bumps.

    That being said, it should be optional on PC.

    When I play in a group we have call outs so that's not a issue for me personally . The lag is a issue . If there is a middle ground , a toggle would it . I can see where solo players would have a hard time knowing what going on in a fight with allies nearby but if that clears up some lag then we to find a solution that includes this .

    Overall it's a nice idea and I actually hoped for something like that for a long time. But I agree, how it's is in the patchnotes now it's ******. This needs to have detailed options to turn on and off certain types of abilities, effects etc.

    I couldn't care less about how this affects pvp, but it NEEDS to happen for trials.

    It still needs to be seen for PVE. If a raid lead calls ultimates or for mitigation, how are teammates able to see where? They can't.

    I wonder what the intention is here. Reduce player information for.... client framerate? Server performance? If the skill placement data is no longer going to be sent to the client, that'd be a noticeable reduction in the work the servers are doing, right?

    If the data is still being sent but will now be hidden, are we going to have to run addons to get it back? The client already hides some data that it receives, such as groupmember item loot.

    Right, and I didn't use either of those terms. Anyway, I do hope they reconsider this thing. My ability to help people with skill placement and timing is going to get curtailed severely, if I can't even tell what they're putting down half the time.

    It's not too great for trials either. Of course better performance and a clearer view is great but it's still crap. Not being able to see, AOEs makes group as well as enemy placement a pain in the ass. It should just be toggleable.

    I agree with the OP, while this feature is cool and potentially fps and lag reducing, making it a an option to be toggled on or off would be so much better than if it was just forced upon everyone.

    I agree 100%. this needs to be a toggle. I want to be able to see all of the combat. How do I synergize with my allies if I can't see anything they are doing? What if I'm casting caltrops where there already are caltrops! what If I'm not on teamspeak and I want to stack my destro ulti with another allies to time it out against a zerg??!?!!??!?!!?!?!?!? What if I were on teamspeak and I still couldn't see any of this!?!?!?!

    yeah more bad ideas but hey like the scamp who cares I cant even see my scamp in combat 99% of the time anyway, let alone the special ability from it. prob wont make any difference cause its all already broken might aswell just dump what you cant fix zos.

    I completely understand where ZOS is coming from on this, but this is not really the solution to the problem.
    What should be changed is the visual size of ALL effects. (Changing particle size shouldn't be to hard, programming wise)
    I would say caltrops doesn't have to be so big on my screen.

    Also these abilities don't need multiple visual effects, one is fine
    Storm lightning buff doesn't have have lightning all around me and I turn invisible and it creates shocks and other noise, which my power surge is barely even noticeable.
    I think AOEs get out of control sometimes, like the lightning destro ult is very thick, but a volley of arrows is just right.

    ZOS as you can see people still need the visualizations, so if possible just have the particle guys run through each ability and make them smaller, with less extra particles. That's my two sense.

    Please whoever is in charge for that, make it a toggle option for those who want to increase their FPS/Performance and for those who are fine as it is. People need to see what is happening, be it in PVP or PVE, it absolutely flaws an otherwise *** amazing patch :cry:

    I'm glad other think this is a bad idea. The game is designed to go off of visual and audio cues. Removing a large portion of them from my teams side will effect my playstyle, as reading them has just as much value sometimes as an enemies does.
