I think it was with 1T, at least some time last year, they made a change to Cold Harbor access. Probably need to complete the Harborage Main story to get full access. At least those quests offer skill points.

I forget which happened first but I ported during or just after the halloween event. We were doing bosses during that event to get them done after they made them harder. I think that was after 1T happened?

wtf m8? 14 chars, 8 did main quest and 11 have all shards from this zone, and you tell me this? I just dont want to do CH quest before doing all quests that lead you to CH in the first place, and for some reason Zos blocked part of CH compared to situation before.

After 14 characters.. why are you surprised at how the game works?

I am surprised how this was changed, yet I didnt find any info about that in any of the patch notes we were given. And trust me, I read them all.

It wasn't changed. You've never been able to get to Cold Harbour at all without porting to a guildmate. Porting to one of the northern shrines has always requires you have someone up there to port to. Unless you're saying you had a guildmate at a northern shrine and it wouldn't let you port to them. If that's the case, then, yeah, that's new.

Yeah. Im saying that I had a guildmate who was farming stygian for some reason unknown on northern world boss and I couldnt port to him. It was odd so I asked him to be exactly at wayshrine. None worked, still was unable to port to him. Then I asked a friend who was willing to help to see if result might be different. We were in group, I could see her camping on a F wayshrine. Still no luck. Then I was desperate and asked random ppl for port, even offered 5k to ones willing to help. You know what - didnt work as well. At that point I came here to QQ. Bit later tested with my mule account, as I wrote about it.

Bs like this, that noone knew about, R word changes made that weren't asked for or even needed at all is what makes me rage. If they did cutoff entire CH for chars that had not done main quest up to CH, I could understand that. I would not agree, being that ESO is advertised as "play your way, any zone at any time", but I would understand. But this, utter bs, this is something I can't understand at all. At least, they should have said something, if pulling a stunt like that. Tell us when u change something, damn it. I know it is not biggest and most important thing in ESO, but why changing it in the 1st place? Among all things that need tweaking and adjustments, overhauls or back-to-the-drawing-board fixes, someone at Zos decided OhYeahLetsCutOff3WayshrinesInColdharbourSinceThatIsTheBiggestIssueATM... Bah, I'm going to sleep.

Yeah, I saw this after I posted.

The only thing I can think is if, completing some of the northern quest hubs was causing bugs. Maybe the Orchard? I honestly don't know.

    This was always the case...

It was some time ago, but I definitely picked up those skyshards despite never doing the main quest or any quests in Coldharbour. I had to first travel to someone in guild to reach Coldharbour, then I asked in zone chat if anyone was in the northern or western part and traveled to them to unlock those wayshrines in the north.

I gotta admit, that caught me off guard. When I first made my new character (Warden), I was given the option to skip the tutorial or so it. This is because I already had a character which has beaten it before. I also have characters which have completed the entire main quest entirely. So when I realized that I wasn't getting visits from the prophet, I started to wonder if my game was bugged. Come to find out, I had to go and do all that crap involved in the tutorial regardless. -_-

A bug? Who said it was a bug? I'd like a source please.

If ZOS told you it was a bug would that make you believe it was so? What kind of a source would you like? It clearly wasn't working as intended. You were not supposed to get to Coldharbour before the storyline told you to go there.

Except that logic works for ALL zones. I can port to Reapers March/The Rift/Bangkorai as a level 3. But the main storyline tells me to go there after completing the 4 zones before them.

So I'll be either waiting on your source or you can admit to posting fake news.

It was like this at release... Still remember the chasm quest being broken at release and nobody could get into northern cold harbour.. even porting to a friend wouldn't work...

Sometime in between then and now it was possible, but apparantly it has been changed again...

About a year ago, what I noticed that was that ports into northern CH worked only if you ported to a character who had "legitimate" access.

So if I port to my main character who had completed CH, there was no issue.

If I port to an alt who had gained access by porting and not by doing the CH quest, the ports would always place me at a wayshrine outside of the north.

If they sell skyshard packs, please PM!

All kidding aside... ZOS could make a nice buck by selling skyshard packs or something to insta grab all skyshards in a zone, with some level/CP requirements on use... heck I know I would pay for it.. grabbing skyshards is tedious and with the roll over difficulty of pve mobs, it's just boring, super boring.

Please, more acronyms in title next time :pensive:

I haven'T quest line a toon since the game released, i donyl did it once, but north part of coldharbor you'Re refering too, isn't the part you start facing Molag Bal and you unlock as you go forward in the story line? If my memory doesn't skrew me.

BTW: i'm not even yet half the place done done in shard's hunting on my Warden and i'm at 230 shards already and mostly have pts where i all wanted it, unless you wannt all skillpoints in crafting three to be used on all your toons, you can get plenty shard out of those few you can get in Cold Harbor's northern part.

I find myself currently unsympathetic to players complaining about what happens after they login in.

    I CANT LOGIN.
This makes the arguments going on in this discussion, somewhat 'moot' from my perspective.

There is a new tutorial introducing Vvardenfel to new players. If you skip the tutorial just because you completed the former one in coldharbour, you'll miss the new one instead.

A week before the patch I had a new toon that I was collecting shards on, but I hadn't done any quests. I was locked out of the chasm gate to the north of the city, but I was able to get a guildie to travel up there and I was able to travel to her no problem. Haven't tried since morrowind patch but I'll be annoyed if that's no longer a possible thing.

I like collecting skyshards first so that I have plenty of skill points to level up with while I complete everything else.

Interesting. Then why are there crafting writ survey locations in the "Northern subzone?"

because RNG gave you a map for there?

It doesn't change the fact he's right - I can't go to the Chasm/North Area on any of my Alts who are 2+ years old because I never did the quest. That's how it was supposed to be, and it def. isn't only Morrowind characters.

That makes 0 sense. The whole point of One Tamriel was opening up every single zone to players BEFORE the storylines gets them there yet half of one(and only one, and only half) of the zones is now suddenly locked off in the way it's never been before. That sounds like either a bug or a very stupid and unneeded change.

Coldharbor was ALWAYS locked off like that - I don't get where you people are coming from that think it wasn't. This was literally always the case. It's part of the story to unlock the area and has been since the launch of the game.

It also doesn't conflict with the statement behind One Tamriel because you CAN visit the Zone at any point in time, and you can also easily stop crying and do the quest to unlock the rest. It's blocked off for very obvious reasons.

Mentioned a couple times and was ignored, but aren't there more than enough skill points to gain from literally hundreds of other sources? You don't need that many to unlock skills to level and morph - sacrifice some passives for a little while if necessary. On my skyshard runs, I always go into public dungeons and complete the group event too to gain a bonus skill point. I never had to complete all three alliance zones and have only done so on one character for the achievement.
