Not at all. I go where fate takes me (i.e. level alts, quest, role play, etc), and either it took me a LONG time to get reasonably good gear or it will be a while.

Yeah, considering this is one of the most casual MMO's I'm somewhere between "Mostly not" and "In the middle".

Why do I HAVE to have BiS when I can have crappy gear and still pull good numbers because I'm not an idiot?

    Well not crappy, but still.

Besides there aren't DPS meters anyways. No one has to know your DPS/Damage.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

I play this for fun....if I happen to get 3 pieces then maybe I'll work for 5 but not all that grind for best trait too.

Some things are obvious but it's not a grind at all for me. I tried grinding for exp and after doing it on two characters back when Vr14 was it....I thought WTH.

So I have about 4-6 at Vr10 and pushed to vr14 and now it's just enjoying the game
I also craft most my own stuff in max trait so I'm good

I don't like any of the options - too much commentary in them. I don't care about getting what others say is best gear and for some reason all of the response options imply that this has to be an end goal for everyone.

For me the game is about having fun and chasing whatever goal grabs my fancy on any given day or week. I don't want or need to be better that anyone else, don't care if I never complete VMA (800+ CP's and never even started it), don't care about becoming emperor, don't care about soloing vet dungeons, don't care if people kill me in PVP.

I am here to enjoy myself.

Yes, on console no one knows your dps. I get what you are saying, but there are significant differences between standing on a dummy and putting it into action. You can tell people or screen shut dummy dps, but it doesn't always correlate.

Again. Casual game is casual. (This isn't a knock). Most content can be done with people that just need to have half a brain not because they have all the "magic" numbers.

You know some people find enjoyment in competition. It's the exact reason most people that like to play sports and aren't professional athletes, play sports. Now I agree it doesn't have to be a competition and I also agree that some people take it too seriously, but bashing competitive people just because you're not interested in it makes me ask myself, "Are you that pathetic?".

I went middle of the road, except that it doesn't take me half of my playing time to get good gear (or optimize skill builds or whatever) for my characters. I try to outfit my characters in gear that's considered top-tier (maybe not BiS but close enough), but my standards aren't so high that I need to kill myself trying to get the best trait or vMA weapons or whatnot. I'm happy enough to assemble a VO set via weekly trials with one of my guilds even if they're not all divines, and work out skill combos that do what I need to do without agonizing over the perfect rotation. At the same time, though, I do pay attention to what seems to be considered desirable gear, and if it's accessible to me, I'll try to use what I can get. In between questing, shopping, fishing, running around gathering stuff, playing interior decorator, crafting, and whatever else takes up 90% of my game time.

real important to maximize your gear/build as much as possible - otherwise you're simply fighting better versions of yourself all the time...

I've farmed a bunch of sets, have some crafted sets and pvp/tel var sets - mostly these days though I prefer to buy them...so much faster and easier...

I have to min/max in every game I play. I just can't enjoy myself otherwise.

Having said that, I'm also cognizant of the near impossibility of acquiring some items (like sharpened vMA staves, sharpened dungeon/trial weapons, etc.) so I don't stress too much over not having the absolute best gear. If I need to spend hundreds of hours every week playing the same content to get a small stat boost, I will forego the grind. I will settle for the next best set combination. Grinds I'm fine with are dungeon/trial body pieces, monster masks, overland sets (you're grinding the actual gear or the gold to buy them). They can take a few dozen hours to complete, but I'm with that. A few hundred (or even a few thousand) hours of grinding I'm not fine with.

Wow. I really did not expect these poll results. I figured the casual portion of the playerbase was much smaller... That explains why they couldn't give a skeever's arse about fixing Battlegrounds, or the group finder, or vet trials for console players. Even if the entire 'hardcore' playerbase quit, that would still leave over 80% of the players to keep feeding them money.

It all makes sense now. It's a very scumbag business model, but it makes sense.

(I realize the poll isn't a representation of the entire playerbase, but it still gives insight as to why so many issues are being ignored)

I try to make sure I have good (highly requested) skills and optimal cp, but I don't change it very often (huge game updates excepted). I upgrade the armor I get. I usually use crafted or BOE sets. I will never change my race to min max or run the OP class of the patch just because. I like my characters and if one patch they happen to be on top, so be it.

What I don't do is grind dungeons over and over and over and over and over for the perfect item. If I run a dungeon I save the good pieces in case I run it on my alt and can complete the set. Then I fill in the other pieces with crafted or purchasable options.
