[BUG] PC NA: "Invitation to Morrowind" mail letter only sent to one character

LordTempest
I have 12 characters, and only one "Invitation to Morrowind" quest mail with the letter to start the whole thing off. I assumed when I logged in for the first time, that the attached item would be available to each character. Instead, its bound to the first character to remove the mail attachment. Said character was not my main and I would rather like more quest mail attachments.

Edit: Gonna put this here so its easier to see, as I probably should have done so to start with. This is NOT about needing a way to start the quest. Its well-established there are other ways to start it. This is about the mail letter being a part of the Eidetic Memory collection, and lesser so about being able to start the quest on existing characters in a more "natural" way that doesn't involve either using the UI or stumbling across the quest npc in Vvardenfell.

Yeah I found this odd on PTS too. One mail per character would make more sense than just one for the whole account.

Yup, definitely not a good way of going about it. It would be like if the messenger that delivers the Orsinium invite letter only showed up for one character, or the undaunted letter only went to the first character to hit level 45 or whatnot. Hoping they'll get around to a fix for it sometime soon so I can enjoy something about my early access other than sustain nerfs. I'm sure there are other ways to go about starting the quest, but I'm a completionist with that sort of stuff:P
  • LordTempest
So...uhhh, no word on when and if this is gonna be fixed? The letter counts as a part of the Eidetic Memory collection stuff, so I can't start the quest on any of my other characters till I can get the letter on each character.

I picked up the quest (for an alt) from the DLC tab in collections and it was there as a starter quest.

The issue is with the note being part of the Eidetic Memory, and the note being the only way to accept the quest (without using the UI) from the mainland. Not with getting the quest at all (which you can do just by going to Vvardenfell).

Check the table in the office of the Breton secretary to the new governor, if all you need is a note. Pretty sure I found it there..

    Where is new content? Sigh.

I'm having the same issue, and I can't believe how herky-jerky the introduction to Morrowind is for established characters.

There's no linking quest, or even a notice out in the world that tells you anything about Morrowind. I did "The Lost Prophecy" quest before Morrowind went live, so there's literally nothing in-game that points me there.

The Invitation to Morrowind MIGHT suffice to smooth the transition if I could actually GET it on more than one character.

ZOS, y'all need to REALLY rethink this one. Letting established characters do the new tutorial would go a LONG way toward alleviating this issue.

As it stands, I'm just soured on the whole expansion. It's a quibble, I know. But I'm one of those jackwads for whom immersion is important, and this has basically ruined it for me. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow, I dunno.

P.S.: I've already griped about it in General.

I was wondering if the note might be around in-game somewhere, thanks. I'll check around and report back if its accessible in that fashion. Its considered a bound trophy in the UI, so hopefully the in-game letter is the same as the one for Eidetic Memory.

Edit: I didn't see that particular note in the Governor's office, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

But yeah, this is more about Eidetic Memory completion, being able to enjoy every small aspect of the new expansion, and immersion than not being able to actually start the quest on existing characters. The other methods, like the UI and going to the npc to start it are less than desirable approaches, imo.

    From the initial patch notes-
    To get the quest on another character;

Open your Collections, select Stories and then Morrowind under the Chapters tab. From there, you can accept the starting quest.

That is correct. HOWEVER, the "Invitation to Morrowind" will NOT appear in your inventory and you CANNOT store it in your bank from your main.

Therefore, you will not get to read it nor will it update your Lorebooks.

    That i believe, too.
I have must read the book first and then go to the collection under the Chapters tab.

I've yet to find the letter in-game to add to the Eidetic collection on existing characters besides the one bound letter on first pickup from mail. As it stands now, we're pretty much screwed on existing characters that didn't get the letter as a mail (one per account) if we want to complete all the Eidetic entries.

Could we get some form of comment on this, ZOS? Is it gonna be fixed sometime, fixed sometime soon, or are you all planning on just leaving it as is?

Even if you do have the letter, it cannot be read after the quest starts. My main started the quest from the npc alongside the road as soon as you port into Morrowind. I finished that first part before I even looked at my mail. Now I do have the Invitation to Morrowind in my bag, but it cannot be put it in my bank, and it cannot be read (and therefore cannot be added to the Eidetic Memory).

I'm kind of perplexed as to how something this simple and obvious made it all the way through the PTS beta.Pretty sure I complained about it then, too. I mean, come on...its the start of EVERYTHING. It'd be like a sprinter tripping at the start of a race and never retying the offending shoelaces. Would be nice if ZOS would at least grunt in its general direction, here.

Exactly, I have yet to step foot on Vvardenfell with my other characters until I know what the status of this is. I hope the devs understand how frustrating that is. Doesn't have to be fixed now, just give us some hope that it will be looked at B)

You can still do the quest on all characters by using the UI or by talking to the quest start npc and picking it up directly, but I wouldn't currently advise it if you're a completionist. There's currently no way I've found to get the initial quest letter into Eidetic Memory, etc, other than the inbox mail attachment, and the game nonsensically only sends one per account rather than one per character like it properly should.

I can confirm that new characters now receive the mail, and that this piece of mail can be placed in the bank. My main has finished the Morrowind main quest and could still not read the letter he originally received (but did not read until later). However, I was able to retrieve the letter I placed in bank from other character, read that letter, and unlock the Eidetic Memory entry for Vvardenfell - "Good Travels!".

    Thanks B)

Now if only non-new characters received the letter and existing copies of the letter attachment would be shareable, we'd be set with it, as I can confirm those versions of the letter are still unusable for the rest of the accounts and older characters still aren't getting the mail yet. I guess a partial fix is better than nothing for now, though my slots are already full for trying out a new character's mail, sadly. Already made my Wardens :(

New characters shouldn't even get the mail at all... they have a different letter taking them to Morrowind, called Good Travels. It would make no sense for a new, unknown character to receive a personal invitation from the Canon.

I thought the same when I read that. I just figured it was probably another quick-fix measure since it would at least solve the mystery of how new characters can get the Morrowind letter attachment in their Eidetic memory archive at all. If it is indeed a thing, it would temporarily solve that problem. Non-sensically, but solve all the same:P If I can decide which character, if any, to put on the chopping block, I'll tinker around some and hopefully get to check out some of this stuff. I can't mess around with it at the moment since I'm maxed at 14, hehe.

If we start quest some other way than letter (I took boat from Wayrest to Seyda Neen, I think), how do we get letter into Eidetic Memory? I took boat to Seyda Neen because it felt more like the original Morrowind. Now letter is sitting in my inventory, but neither double-clicking nor right-clicking and choosing "Use" does anything. It is still in my inventory and won't go to Eidetic Memory. So I seem to have opposite problem of most people in this thread. I have the letter, but still cannot get into Eidetic Memory. Plus, I'd like the inventory slot back. :-)

Someone earlier in the thread had a similar problem. Its bugged in that way, too. If you do the quest in any way other than the book after getting the book, you can't use it or get rid of it unless maybe you destroy it outright, assuming it'd let you.

Long story short, welcome aboard! Pull up a chair and kick back. Its gonna be a while :)

I only got one copy of the letter and it is still unreadable. No other characters can acquire it. So what exactly do I do? Are there plans to make the broken letters readable?

Im on PS4 EU and had it on 2 characters. I did Firemoth Island, went to Seyda Neen also did the "hooded figure" going into Coldharbour via travelling to my home Alliance! It was great to re-do that scene with extras!!
