The reason being is I'm against crown crates and I will not buy any. Opening a crown crate that I got from my purchase might be a bad thing. What happens if I get something good, will that change how I feel in the future about crown crates?
I think I would rather toss it and be able to come here and say "I've never ever bought or opened a crown crate".
If you want a friend, get a dog.

RouDantes✭✭✭All of these people debating whether or not they should open the crate... you guys do realize you already paid for it, right? Refusing to open it does nothing but deprive yourself of something you bought. You're the only one missing out; you're not teaching ZOS a lesson that you don't approve of the gambling crates by refusing to open it "on principle".
That's like buying a box that has, amongst other things, a scratch off lottery ticket in it, and then refusing to scratch the thing because you're concerned that if you do win, you'll be compelled to blow a ton more money on the lottery... when really you could just count yourself lucky that you won, be happy with the winnings, and quit while you're ahead.
Honestly, if you DO win something awesome in the first one, the odds of getting another really awesome thing are even more remote, so if you're really not into the crates, you should probably quit while you're ahead.

One thing you failed to understand, I didn't buy the expansion for the crown crates that came with it and I have a choice to open the crown crate or not. Right now I have no plans on opening it.
Have you ever bought something and it came with some promotional item and you tossed the promotional item away or never used it? I'm sure I am not the only one that has done that.
Here are a few examples:
- When I purchased my video card it came with a game that i never played. Not once did I say, "oh I better play this game because I PAID for it".
- I order a sandwich that came with pickles on it, and then tossed out the pickles because I didn't feel like eating them. Not once did I think , Oh I better eat those pickles because I PAID for them.
Maybe I am different

It's not an item, it's, ah, "credited" to you. When you're in a panel view (eg inventory?) you get a bar of icons across the top of your screen. There are exclamation points on the ones with new info. One of those is for crown crates. I figured this out by wondering what the ! was about and clicking and suddenly Pacrooti was sitting there offering me five cards.
I believe you can also go into key bindings and set up a key to open the crown crate interface. Any crates you have will then show.1 -
