There seem to be a lot of changes recently that come straight out of left field and no one from the community actually asked for them.

ZOS: So what do you think of this idea we have to "simplify" the new character experience?

PTS testers: God no. This is not a good idea.

ZOS: Great, we'll roll that right out then!

Pretty much how every PTS test cycle goes.

They go 200 percent in the wrong direction, so that, when they are done, testers can thank them for reversing the decision to go that far, while actually they only wanted to go to the point that gets dumped on the live servers.

Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

I don't understand this new system or who asked for it.
Pretty much the standard dumbing down most MMOs go through, trying to appeal to the lowest level of attention span they can to maximise player numbers.

No one asked for it, except those without the intelligence to read tooltips and the gumption to experiment or read 'guides'.

This change might be one that actually hurts newer players. I mean, if a true first-MMO newbie only had a 2H sword after the intro, what in the world would make him think he could use other weapons? Certainly not the skill line list. At least, not now.

Makes me wonder if a big fish up at ZOS just ignored what the little fish were telling him/her "because I know what's best for the game".

We have them solutions, enabled by default bit with a check box toggle to "show all possible skills" which would also explain on each skills page still locked how it could be opened.

Even went as far as to say they could stick a "buy here" button on the thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood skill pages when locked.

That sums it up pretty well. Even asking for a compromise like a toggle option was completely ignored...

As a new player, that started only a few days before these changes came into effect, I have to agree that I don't like the way everything is hidden now. Yes, it's a lot to take in at first, but it isn't THAT bad. I think the option to toggle this feature off would be acceptable to me.

All skill-lines will eventually show up in your character sheet after reading lorebook increasing that particular skill as well. No need for killing blow or even equipping.

Are you sure? Maybe they changed that from when I was testing in the beta, because I gained skill levels in things like light armor without it being unlocked (I had two pieces on, not 3 and I leveled and the exp pushed light armor to lvl 2)
I specifically meant skillbooks you randomly find by reading bookshelves/bookcases etc. that increase your skill level. No need for your skill to reach 5 as someone else suggested though. You'll have your tree unlocked as soon as you find a skillbook of a certain type/skilltree.

When did this get added? Because it was not the case on PTS when I was testing a new character. I had heavy armor to 5 or 6 without actually unlocking the skill line.

Yea, they really need to embrace the standard practice of toggles for idiotic changes like this.

It could actually be usefull if we simply had the option to hide skill lines we don't use on a character in our UI but not like this lol. Players that feel overwhelmed by a few skill lines in an interface probably will feel overwhelmed by something else even more then.

As a veteran player I'm already know all possible skill-ines so I can wait until it unlocks or seek for specific gear or do a specific action to unlock it. It's a bit annoying but not a problem at all.
Newb would never knows of what he can unlock in the future.
So I can only agree - this 'genius' changes would lead to the more mistakes only.

They made it (I think) to force player investigate all around, to give a better feeling of characters progression or something.
      But no.
