BSW vs Necropotence

I know BSW is better in trials for magsorc because pets tend to die alot but what about for 4 man dungeons? I run a dunmer Magicka sorc and have access to both sets in divines. I can run either two inferno staves or one inferno and one lightning. Which set should I use to maximise DPS in dungeons?

I don't know who told you that BSW is better in trials ... it's fine in trials - but it's a DPS loss.

Necropotence with pet is better in everything except the following fights:

The Mage (Aetherian Archive) - all other fights in the trial you can use Necro/ pet
The Serpent hardmode (Sanctum Ophidia) - all other fights in the trial you can use Necro/ pet
The Twins Vet (Maw of Lorkhaj) This only applies if you're running with an inexperienced group, as the pet stun can make the chainers have a tougher time with adds. If you have good DPS and experienced chainers though, you want the pets.

Ruins of Mazzatun when sneaking past adds, you should despawn the pet - but you can keep the necro/ pet build for the whole dungeon.

I would say it depends on your group make up, dungeon, and difficulty setting. If you are running with no healer using necro with the twilight would be useful. But if you have a good healer and tank and running a vet dungeon I would say BSW for the max dps.
There are other worlds than these.

I don't know man, I don't even have a shield slotted in most trials and my pet never dies. And when I do slot a shield its always Harness Magicka... So yeah, pets are not squishy at all.

Necro is better than BSW in many ways, including sustain.

I have both sets and have tried them out a lot. I don't really like using pets but there is no denying that each of the pets are very powerful and the extra magika adds a ton of dps as well as making your shields op. Necropotence is stronger imo.

Yep, as much as I despise pet builds being best DPS, currently they are just that on the fights that you can run them. The main exceptions, as pointed out above, are the Mage & the Serpent. Be sure to use the scamp's pulsing ability, it's one of the key things that makes it good

Serpent hard mode that is. No world shapers = pet paradise on non-hard mode. Mage will chain lightning your friends off of the pet is the issue with her if you were wondering.

So wouldn't necro be amazing for magblades? Shades can't die and rarely take damage(certain aoes) so I don't think they can be part of a chain lightning attack.

I'm interested in this in regards to magblades. I have a sharpened inferno BSW staff but I'm farming necropotence for pvp. Was wondering if necro would be worth using over BSW in a pve environment for nightblades if I keep shades up, since I'm not a huge fan of using destro abilites over class abilities other than wall of flame and ult

Regarding the necro nightblade questions, yes it probably is good now! I know that once upon a time people didn't like it because the shades would steal peoples' Spell Power Cure buffs, but I think they fixed that?

I haven't done too much testing with it myself, but yes, I want to say that would work. I feel like I'm forgetting something, but I can't think of it if I am. I'd be interested to see a DPS test comparing BSW and necro for a mNB.

Also one thing to note: People have told me that the morph that does the two shades doesn't crit, while the morph that does the single shade does crit. If the shades' damage is low enough, it might be worth taking the single-shade morph if that's true.

Neither version crits which is one of the pts changes, they will crit when morrowind hits. Pretty sure they still steal buffs I see their arms glowing occasionally, you could run a ranged shade to minimize the loss.

There is no loss... pets only gain the buff if an applicable player target is beyond its application range, at which point it will default to a pet. Once all players are in range the system prioritizes them over pets. At worst you are looking at 1 - 2 seconds of down time. But if the player was out of range of 2 healers' spc then he wasn't making use of or need of the buff anyways.
