Best Magicka Class Right Now

For DPS Magaicka roll I always use my Sorcerer. I have done trials with him and am very comfortable with his rotation. Templar is always second and also comfortable with this character and her rotation ect.

Recently I changed my Nightblade to Magicka and am doing more vet dungeons and some normal trials and really getting the hang of it. Rotation feels good and I feel I am doing some good damage.

All is left now is to actually play on my Dragon Knight and do some dungeons and stuff. Right now he's only got TBS and willpower, with I think Grothdarr, but i'll have to check lol

Anyway!, I'm interested what people mainly use for Vet dungeons and trials and what puts out the most damage, given the right skill and rotation etc.

For PvE I'd say Magicka Sorc.

For PvP I'd say Magicka DK.

So, in PvE, you need both Magicka Sorcs and DKs.

In general (I'm not talking about people like insanely good at their class ie: Alcast on Magplar) Magicka DKs pull higher single target dps and will bring utility to the group with engulfing flames and chains. Their biggest problem though is they are melee range and are more prone to taking damage.

Magicka sorcs are a close second in terms of DPS, but they are ranged and bring utility with minor vulnerability from lightning staves. That's why most dps are Magicka Sorcs right now. But both are needed in a trial.

If you're talking damage, you're talking sorc. The other classes offer different things beyond that, but sorcs have plenty of utility too.

I chose DK simply because I PvP, since you're talking about trials and dungeons I guess you play only PvE. Never was one for end-game content, anyways.

Magicka NB is just..No. Magicka Sorcerer is personally wayyyy too weak for me ("glass cannon") that's why I went heavy armor so I could be a magicka health-enchant tank. The loss of bonus for light armor magicka can be overcome by my Breton, Vampire, and certain magicka set gear. You can either put absolutely everything into magicka and it's based skills/passives, while being a very powerful yet really fragile player..Or you could sacrifice some of that magicka build and deviate into health, be a good amount more survivable but you do somewhat noticeably less damage. Most wouldn't mind sacrificing their power a little bit, but there are those hardcore mag-only.


I am definitely a PvPer, which may mean that everything I say here is irrelevant. But in that case, MagNBs just cannot survive without being very skilled and tactful, compared to an easier stamina counterpart Takes a lot of building and careful planning if you want to compete with others. MagNB DoT is like hard-mode MagDK DoT. I'm sure it could be relative on a smaller scale in PvE.

MagTemplar is a good choice, but their executes/blazing shield were nerfed and now their attacks just suck. I know, it's a healing class, but you need to fight sometimes. If a templar uses their magicka for ANYTHING other than healing, they cannot fight with other people/NPCs. Those skills actually made fighting interesting. At least in Cyrodiil it works that way. You're either a healer, or one of those idiots who play a healing class and decided to un-nerf their blaze/jesus beam through gear specifically for combat. Though if you want to strictly be a healer, don't let me stop you.

Like I said before, a lot of this is just my personal view on magicka classes, and from the view of PvP. If you really wanted to, you can make any build work. Though remember it can take some time to make it work effectively.

Should probably say "Best Magicka Class for PVE DPS" in the title or something like that. The "Best Magicka Class" is a very subjective title.

I prefer to do mine on a Magi-DK right now.

I mean... When you see that 47k DPS is doable with just drain on a dummy... From full range... And with mad AoE... Yeah, Pet Sorc is performing way better than any other class atm. And then when you look at the trial parses and see 57k single target deeps... Yeah, pet sorc is the top dog atm and I'm already dreading the nerf they will receive come Morrowind.

I feel like I am having the same convo in three different threads. DK is most single target, Sorc is most aoe/cleave damage. As others have said, you need both. Sorc is certainly easier to be competitive, hence its recent popularity, but the best of the best will do more single target DPS on a mDK. I play sorc more in my raid, mostly because we are DK and Templar heavy and need some dedicated range. A good raid needs 2-3 sorcs, 4-5 DKs and a Templar or 2 from a DPS standpoint.

Edit: If the question is what is the best all around magic class in PVE, or what is the easiest class to break into end-game with, sorc would probably get my Vote. Maybe that is what OP is asking. If the question is what is the best DPS class, it's mDK

Initially, strongest. Best dps for dungeons and trials. But now you mention it, both?

I've always felt ive done best with my sorc, but that's because I know it and use it most. Fun, I will always choose Templar, but I'm really enjoying my nighblade

Some mentioning sorcs highest single target on dummy with pets.
Not so simple in trails when your pets run all over the shop.
So I vote mag dk single target.

People keep claiming DKs do highest single target DPS, which is clearly not true at all. Since the homestead patch i've yet to see a DK even match pet Sorc single target numbers. Truth of the matter is that Sorc without familiar is on the same level as magicka DK, but pokemon Sorc is just miles ahead in terms of overall DPS. Like they are not even in the same league and if you claim otherwise, it would be much appreciated if you backed it up with real numbers... like 51k single target Rakkhat HM, or perfectly stationary fight - Varlariel 58k single target.

ATM, they're not as powerfull as sorc or Dk (which are one of the best) and don't have a templar's DPS...

The short answer:
1) It does a lot of magic damage because all it's class skilss do magic damage and base fire damage is about 20% better than base magic because +10% for dk engulfing group buff + 7% for Dunmer is OP race + 1.5% burning + 2% increased set proc rate. Magic damage has no benefits. No status effect, no set triggers, no group buffs, no boss debuff nothing.
2) It's dots are just weak. The highest DOT on you magiblade will be wall. This is not so on other magica classes.
3) Merciless, one of it's main dps skills, its proc skill, and a self buff is a mess. Double cast, redundant with combat prayer, odd cast time, just a mess and it needs to be good.

Like all things, the problem is just one of magnitude. mNB has a great bag of tricks that work very well together. They all just don't do quite enough damage (or heals anymore).

Nightblade in general needs a buff. They need some better skills, tbh.

Might as well play a stamblade so you can have something closer to the typical assassin. Don't see many assassins running around with staves

You mean which magicka class pulls the highest DPS? Mag DK would be the answer.

I think Sorcs are really strong, though their popularity has spread way too much based on this poll. Mag NBs need some buffs though (Grim Focus auto-recast on proc use, etc).

Magplars can pull massive DPS like other classes too, but they're made to shine in execute range due to their massive damage output past ~35% with jesus beam.

With the exception of Mag NBs magicka is pretty balanced.

Stamina as a whole needs buffs though.
