A Closer Look at Inflation in AvA

Since keep trading PvP is more frequent than ever, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at why only very few actually do anything against it in-game.

People trade keeps in order to gain huge amounts of ap. The result is a huge inflation which makes AP worth a fraction of what it used to be. This effect gets amplified by the already existing inflation through continuous ap and gold gain.

As a result the 30-40k gold and items one gets at the end of each campaign cycle are basically worthless, since the same can be earned by playing 2-3h of PvP or simply buying them from a vendor. With this low price pool, there is nothing left for the PvP crowd to fight over. And with nobody afraid of loosing a campaign, there is also nobody left who is willing to interrupt the keep trading in oderer to secure points for the campaign.

Personally I see two different solutions to solve this problem, one is to implement some sort of item decay that evens out the inflation. This would however be very difficult to implement without troubling the PvE players. The other solution, which is actually more of a band-aid one, is to significantly increase the rewards for the winning faction, either by increasing the gold value or by adding expensive items. Consumables would be a good start, since they have some form of decay (they get used up), but are still very important, Tri-stat Potions being a good example especially because they aren't that valuable in PvE.

Thoughts?

You are on to something, but needs a lot more work.

The pvp sets are old and worthless. The only thing worth winning is top 100 in each faction for gold items, which is why most people only care about personal leaderboard spot.

The time vs reward even for those gold items is very low compared to pve even without the skill involved.

Imo they need to reduce the frequency of which items are given and increase rewards across the board for pvp. In a 30 day campaign for coming in tier 3 of a winning faction i get less gold then if i did one trial.

Theres tons of ways to improve rewards and stop de valuing current ones by using different sets, different items, currency, frequencies, etc. Whether or not they will do it in 2017 is doubtful. If they did it would probably be more rng, which is what they did the first time to the pvp sets rather than letting you buy the piece you want.

Its funny that they make severe critical changes to the game to appeal to new and casual gamers, but lock rewards behind impossible walls of rng.

Ap is (and always have been) only worth what people will pay for it. A guildy of mine bought a few necropotence rings. He wanted me to pay 125 k and said they were worth 150 k and this was a discount. I waited a few days and saw in the guild traders and there was one for a 100 k. I kinda waited a day and then a guy was selling in Rawlka for 110 k after I asked him. I told him it is being sold for 100 k and why would I buy for 110k. Got it for 90 k. To me 500 k ap converts to 90 k just fine.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because an 8 k shield is f ing useless. Died because of baddies on the forum. Too much qq too little pew pew. 16 AD 2 DC. 0 EP cause they bad, CP 2300 plus 18 level 50 toons. NA, PC, Grey Host#SORCLIVESMATTER actually they don’t or they wouldn’t keep getting nerfed constantly.

That is kind of the obvious premise behind his post.. :/ AP is devaluing, at least on EU.
